Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 179: I love you
"I never wanted to keep any secrets from you. I will always be an open book to you, my dear moon. I... I love you."
Esme’s body jolted. She could feel the warmth in her hand fading. Aleister’s hand was slipping from hers.
"Don’t hate me again. It took me so long to make you love me," his words sounded lower than a whisper.
I will hate you. I will hate you all over again if you ever leave me alone. And I will hate myself more if I hated you.
You are more of me than myself.
Her tears rolled down and Esme struggled to open her eyes but she was stuck in the memories he showed to her. Aleister could not use his powers because Marilyn had placed a curse on him when he was in his mother’s womb. He would never be able to use his powers if she was nearby.
Esme was stunned by Marilyn’s revelations but at one point, the woman’s words stopped registering in her mind.
She hated everyone and she hated herself. She did not want to know any secrets. She did not want to unravel any mystery. She just wanted to look at Aleister...
Nothing more.
’Roar!’
She recognized Leo’s voice even with closed eyes but the pain in his voice made her heart tremble.
Leo’s miserable roar reverberated inside the hidden room.
Esme did not know how long she sat with her eyes closed as Aleister’s memories played in her mind.
The revelations ended and her eyes snapped open. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Her gaze landed on the man on her lap.
She felt something cold in her hand. Esme lifted her hand and glanced at the small crystal ball sitting on it. What was it? She wondered.
"Al, I’ll take you to the room. You need rest," she whispered, stroking the man’s chin. Her gaze shifted to Leo who resembled a small furry animal. He was whimpering while sitting near Aleister’s head, "Shhh... Keep quiet. You will wake him up and by then, don’t expect me to save you from his wrath."
Tears stained Leo’s white fur.
’Roar’
’Roar’
’Roar’
Each voice he made was filled with intense agony.
"Leo! I told you to keep quiet. Don’t you see how injured he is?" Esme frowned, "Let him sleep, will you?"
"Princess," Rowan dropped to his knees, "The Prince...."
"Why are you looking at me pitifully? Why are you crying, Rowan?!
Rowan flinched, "He..." He looked at Aleister, not knowing how to say it.
Esme glanced at Aleister, the pair of blue eyes that she adored was closed, "He is alright..."
"He is not, Princess. Prince Aleister is dead!" It was Marcus Norwell who declared that as he strode inside the place followed by his son and daughter.
Lucian nonchalantly followed his father but Luciana’s expressions were livid, her footsteps were light and the rims of her eyes were slightly red. She wanted to have Aleister since the moment she laid her eyes on him but it was simply based on the fact that he was interesting. And since she was young, she had a passion for keeping everything that was rare and beautiful.
But love was not something she was familiar with... Not until she witnessed everything that happened today in this closed space. It was obvious that Aleister died but... it seemed like he took a part of Esme with himself.
"No! He didn’t," Esme shook her head like a crazy woman, hugging Aleister tightly, peppering soft kisses all over his face, "He...He is sleeping...Why won’t you all believe me?" She whispered.
Leo continued roaring miserably. Rowan, Aleister’s straight-faced right-hand man lost control over his emotions as he sobbed uncontrollably.
Marcus Norwell and Lucian Norwell stood with nonchalant expressions on their faces.
And a lone teardrop rolled down Luciana’s cheeks as she watched Esme kissing Aleister desperately. She wiped her tear wondering what was wrong with her. Why would she cry? She inhaled a few deep breaths to calm herself but the dull ache in her chest intensified.
She found it amusing whenever Esme and her had a battle of wits. The arrogant woman was good with her words and Luciana had never had a competition like that. But watching that very same arrogant woman reduced to this state... It affected her badly.
And she realized she never knew the kind of effect Esme had on her. Why was she crying for this woman whom she hated?
After a long time of madness, Esme finally stopped kissing Aleister, the desperation in her eyes was long gone and all that was left was nonchalance when the man on her did not respond to her touches. Her face was expressionless and she sat there like a puppet who could not feel anything.
Marcus looked at his son and daughter as he nodded at them, "It’s time," he whispered.
Luciana bit her bottom lips and her fingers curled up into a fist. They had been here all this time, right outside the place and every secret revelation made here was known to them. But everything apart, why could not her father wait? How could he be so heartless to not even let Esme grieve properly?
And amidst her and her brother, her brother was the righteous one. He usually stood up for Esme whenever she eyed Aleister Iike he was a piece of meat then what’s wrong with him now?
"Father, we can wait..." Luciana spoke through gritted teeth, "She is not in the right condition to..." play our games.
Even a beast would feel pity for Esme at the moment, why were her brother and father unfazed?
"It’s not our matter to be concerned about," Lucian said, "The man was powerful. He would have been an obstacle for us to take her away. Now that he is gone, we should not delay it."
"You are saying this, Lucian? Where is your morality? The one that you keep shoving on my face all the time?" Luciana narrowed her eyes dangerously.
Lucian stepped towards her, "Oh? Look who is talking about morality? Is it because this human...ah, not human...half-human Prince died? I didn’t see a speck of morality in you when you were eyeing an engaged man?"
"I have a habit of keeping all beautiful things. I am like that. I am greedy, selfish, ruthless and everything evil...." Luciana shook her head as she placed the tip of her index finger on her brother’s chest, right where his heart was supposed to be, "But you...should have been the different one between us, the one with a conscience and a heart, unlike how I am."
