Chapter 175: Safe Haven

In the centuries of getting married to him, this was the first time she saw such an expression on his face.

He was not like this when the previous incarnation of his lover died.

He was not like this when he thought that Adeline Daven left him.

This was the first time she saw the side of him that everyone in the heavens dreaded the most.

His wrath could cause destruction.

And she was worried for her son.

She was worried he would be destroyed.

’The life that grew inside me for months won’t die just like that. He can’t die like that.’

’I don’t want to stay here,’ Cardan snapped at his father, ignoring his anger, ’I don’t want to see my mother there. I don’t want to see you grieving over another woman. I have spent my entire childhood in this closed place, looking at this and being suffocated by all of it. I detest it,’ there was an edge of childishness to the man’s voice.

Atlas’s expression shifted. His wilful son... the man who would not spare any time for anyone except wine and his women was telling him that he was... suffocated?

’But you will be punished for this,’ Atlas stepped back from him, something flashed in his eyes.

Cardan lowered his head.

’I reduce you to be a mortal for a decade,’ There have been times when Atlas has noticed his son looking at the portal while growing up. Maybe, he wanted to see the other realms, the places out of heaven. He thought, unaware of the chaos that his decision was going to cause in all the realms. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

He was unaware of the evil smile etched on Marilyn’s face, filled with pride for her son. He was... just like her. Manipulative and he knew how to get things done his way.

And Atlas was unaware of the smirk that made its way on Cardan’s face as soon as he turned around.

Atlas... one of the most powerful gods... felt like something inside him was wilting with time.

The immortal god of death felt like he was losing his breath.

He did not feel the need to pay attention to anything.

He just wanted to retreat into his safe haven.

But his safe haven was destroyed by Cardan.

It was the only place he felt that he belonged but it no longer existed.

From then on, Cardan was on his way to destroy everything that ruined his mother’s happiness.

He was determined to find that woman who would purify his divine powers and destroy the man who would always be a thorn in his mother’s eyes just by being his father’s love child with another woman.

He just never expected to find both his targets together, in one place.

...

Marilyn smiled as she glanced at Aleister, ’’You know who that little girl was? The one who fell in love with the God of Death?"

Aleister broke down in cold sweat. With each step she took towards him, something inside him was breaking down.

A pain so intense... he has never felt it before.

’’That’s me, Marilyn, the most powerful witch that ever exists, an existence that holds the power to shake the heavens if determined,’’ Marilyn tilted her head to the side, a sadistic glint flashed in her eyes as her shoulders slumped, ’’...And a woman so weak that she could never move her husband’s heart.’’

Aleister closed his eyes, trying to circulate the divine powers in his body.

’’And your father... it’s him, the man I fell in love with,’’ As his eyes snapped open, she smiled, ’’And the pregnant woman whom I sent off to the mortal world, trapping her in my plots, is your mother... ah, dead mother, Adeline Daven.’’

Aleister knew. When she was speaking about her past, he could join the dots.

Everything made sense.

The past decades of his life started making sense to him.

The father with whom he grew detached as he grew up was not the man who gave birth to him.

Alexander Daven was not his father. He was his Uncle, his mother’s younger brother.

The shadows that kept lurking in his heart gradually faded when he realized that it was not his fault. The childhood he spent wondering whether his father hated him because he was weak and sick... turned out to be an illusion.

Alexander was a man who hung in between his complicated feelings for Aleister till he took his last breath.

To him, Aleister was his nephew, his beloved sister’s only child. He loved him and wanted to protect him but the same child of his sister was the cause of death of the most precious people in his life.

His wife, his sister, and his son, all of them were sacrificed just for the sake of Aleister.

Alexander could not bring himself to hate Aleister but loving him brought him nightmares. The nightmares of the corpses of his loved ones.

To protect him from the demons of Adeline’s past, and himself, Alexander sent him away in hopes that the weak boy would stand up on his feet, and over time, both Aleister and he would heal their hearts.

But Alexander did not know that while doing so, he was destroying the boy, shredding his humanity to pieces, and making him indifferent towards everything.

By the time he realized it, it was too late.

Aleister did not know what kind of person his mother was. He had never seen her, never known her but... his heart ached.

For the people who had to die because of him.

It left a numbing sensation in his body when he thought about it.

The existence of gods was there in the myths, in the ancient books of the royal castle but... to think that it would turn out to be like this.

’’What do you want?" Aleister tilted his head to look at Marilyn, there was an eerieness in his tone.

He removed his blood-seeped palm from the back of his neck. Blood continued trickling from his neck from the woman’s earlier attack.

But he couldn’t heal it. He could not use his powers.

’’Do you feel desperate?" Marilyn took another step closer to him and Aleister’s jaw clenched as a tremor shot through his body, ’’And painful?"
