Enslaved To The Alphas-Chapter 236: Warning
Councilman Aldren’s throat bobbed as he tried to gather his thoughts. His earlier confidence had slipped away, and now every word came out slower, as if it were being pulled through his teeth. This was because of the mental warning that Prince Kael had given him- to speak the truth. As he stared at the man, he had a feeling that Prince Kael already knew what had transpired... which should’ve been impossible because even he did not know what exactly had caused Prince Zen to collapse suddenly when he had been talking to others naturally.
He stared at the Alpha who had even breached his mental defenses and began slowly, "The Azure Wither Curse must be given in person. It cannot be cast from afar."
He wet his lips nervously as he finally realised what this meant. In his anger at seeing Emira, he had forgotten this crucial point."It needs a medium. A physical object that carries the caster’s energy. A stone, a needle, even a small trinket..." His eyes flicked around the hall. "So the medium must be somewhere here. It cannot work unless it touches the victim’s skin."
He blinked hard and shook his head slightly, trying to regain control of himself. But Kael only nodded, as if the silence was enough of an answer.
"I see," Kael said, tone thoughtful and slow. "But Emira entered the hall after Zen fell down, didn’t she? Then how can you say that she is the one who cursed Zen?"
A few heads turned at that, but Kael continued before anyone could interrupt.
"Which means," he said casually, "whatever medium was used... could not have been used by her."
Aldren stiffened at that.
Kael finished quietly, "So the person who used the medium was already here. In this hall. And probably standing close to Zen."
Silence slammed into the room.
Council members looked at one another, faces draining of colour. A few instinctively pulled their hands back, as if anything near them might suddenly be accused of being the cursed object. Others shifted their feet, unable to meet Kael’s eyes.
Because the implication was simple. If Emira wasn’t the one who placed the medium...
Then someone from the pack had done it. And betraying the pack was the biggest taboo for a werewolf.
Just then, Teacher Shim stepped forward and said slowly, "Kael. I know that all three of you believe Emira is trustworthy, but to mindlessly defend her like this in front of everyone..."
Kael turned to him and smiled a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. "Teacher Shim. I am not mindlessly defending her. I am only stating the facts. The reasoning is simple. Councilman Aldren is one of the few people here who has studied the dark arts closely-and that is only because he hates them. His knowledge of dark curses is accurate, but his judgement of dark witches is clouded by prejudice. So I merely guided him to the correct conclusion."
He lifted his chin slightly, scanning the hall. "The next order of business is not our supposed ’bias’ towards Emira. That is irrelevant right now. So is the fact that she is a dark witch. We already knew that."
"What matters is finding the cursed object that is still inside this hall. And the good thing-perhaps the only good thing-is that the moment Zen collapsed, Councilman Aldren shouted for the doors to be blocked. No one left after that. Which means the object is still here. And the culprit is also here."
As Kael said this, his gaze shifted toward the three other council members standing near the far side of the room. Each of them stiffened under his stare, their expressions tightening. None of them dared move or look away.
What the others did not know was that Kael was not simply guessing. Even half-dead, and though Zen and Emira had been with them for barely half a minute before both were carried out, Zen had already sent Kael a clear message through their bond.
Kael didn’t reveal this to the room, of course. But he could still hear Zen’s irritated voice echoing faintly in his mind, muttering that he would have died in the most embarrassing way possible because of their stupidity. Because really-who wanted to die from being pricked by a toothpick?
Kael’s expression did not change, but his eyes sharpened while everyone exchanged uncomfortable looks.
Teacher Shim and Councilman Vye exchanged glances and then turned to look at the person whom they had hypnotised. Thankfully, the dark master had suggested this method or else, they would have been discovered by Kael already.
But they had to remember their goal. They needed the three alphas to mate with Ramona and Emira to mate with the Dark master on the night of the Golden Moon.
So, for now, it was time to push the blame and make sure that Emira did not cross paths with the Alphas again.
"Councilman Aldren. Since you are well aware of the cursed objects, can you help find the weapon that was used to hurt His Highness?" Councilman Vye asked slowly.
Aldren nodded slowly. "I do have a way to find it..."
However, before anyone could do anything to find it. An older man stepped forward. He bowed down in front of Lance and confessed," Supreme Alpha. It is I who did this. I am a descendant of the dark witches and wanted to fulfill my ancestors wishes of protecting the Dark Master. The Omega... She is the prophesied bride of the Dark Master. The only one who can bring him back. So, how could I sit by idly and not let her serve the master? So, I did what I have to do. Now, she is free to go back to the Dark Master."
As Councilman Roth said this, he made a move that they had already expected. Teacher Shim and Councilman Raymon, stared at the man. Yes. This was the last step. Once he was dead, there was no way anyone would be able to find out the truth. All he had to do was bite his tongue and kill himself.
But before he could do that, a voice echoed in the hall," Stop."
Councilman Roth who had been hypnotized to kill himself after the confession seemed to freeze on that command.
