Enslaved To The Alphas-Chapter 188: Councilman Aldren
"Why is he coming here all of a sudden? I mean, we did invite him, but the messenger must have reached him only yesterday, and now he has already almost reached the valley." Councilman Raymon’s voice held a worried tremor as he paced the confines of his house after receiving the message of the arrival of a wedding guest.
"Did he race all the way here?" Councilman muttered to himself as he continued, "If I’d known he would really come, at least I would have sent the invitation later. Like after the mating ceremony. But he had declined all sorts of invitations over the past years and I thought it would be the same. What should I do now?"
Ramona watched him, confused. She had rarely seen her father unsettled. Now, he looked genuinely frightened. His brows were drawn tight, and his fingers kept tapping against his side in agitation.
"What is it, Father? Who is coming?" she asked slowly, trying to understand what could have sent her father into a frenzy.
Councilman Raymon did not answer. Instead, he shook his head sharply, and with a seriousness she had never seen before, he said, "Ramona. Listen to me carefully. Stay out of that man’s way. If you see him anywhere, turn around and take another path. If someone tries to bring him to you, pretend to be sick and leave. In fact, you should start pretending to be sick now. Do not go out at all for the next few days until the Golden Moon, I mean."
Ramona stared at him, stunned at his words. Who could be coming that her father wanted to put her under house arrest?. Then she frowned and shook her head. "Father, what is the matter with you? Why are you this worried? Do you remember who is behind you? It is Master. You are under his protection. How can you fear-"
Before she could finish, Raymon covered her mouth with his hand. His face had gone pale. "Do not take Master’s name so casually, especially now. If that man who is coming hears you... no. No. Ramona, you do not understand. You are too foolish sometimes. You must not go out. You must not meet him. Just stay hidden."
She pushed his hand away and glared. "Father. Who are you talking about? Why are you panicking so much? I am the Luna of the Stormhold Pack. Why should I hide from anyone? Who could dare harm me here?"
Raymon let out a shaky breath. His eyes seemed distant, as though he was remembering something he did not want to remember. "You do not know who is coming. The person traveling here is not a simple man. He is one of the old ones. Once, he was among the strongest wolves in existence. He was feared by every breathing creature. There was no one who did not tremble when hearing his name."
Ramona felt a chill run down her back at this. Who is this? And why had she never heard of him?
But her father continued in a voice so low that it was almost a whisper, "He had a mate and a child. They were killed. Brutally. Torn away from him by enemies who wanted to break him. And after that, he disappeared. Vanished. No one dared to ask him to come back, fearing that the day he returned, would be the end of many. For almost eighteen years, he has stayed hidden in seclusion, and people tried to forget his name because remembering him brought fear."
"So... he is a rogue wolf now?" Ramona asked, frowning. It was the only explanation she could think of. A wolf losing his mate and family, living alone, wandering or hiding. A rogue.
Raymon shook his head slowly. "No. A rogue is lost or weak or even desperate and not in control of his wolf. This man is not lost. It is said that before he went away, he vowed that whoever was responsible for the death of his mate and newborn would be punished brutally... That is why he should not be provoked. That is why no one should stand in his path. Ramona, listen to me. Do not cross him. Not even by accident."
Ramona felt her heartbeat echoing in her ears. She had never seen her father look like this. And she did not know whether she wanted to meet the man who could make him look so afraid.
"Father, did we have something to do with his death?"
Once again, he slapped his hand on her mouth and hissed," Can you think before talking? Of course we didn’t have anything to do with it. It was actually Master who..."
Raymon Vye shook his head. "You don’t need to know the details. Just remember that you must to stay away from him.
Ramona nodded, even though she still did not fully understand. She pushed her father’s hand away and asked irritably, "Alright, alright. I get it. I will be careful. But at least tell me who he is. What is his name?"
Councilman Raymon was quiet for a moment. His jaw tightened, and when he spoke, his voice sounded heavier than before. "His name is Evan Aldren. Remember that. And remember to stay away from him, no matter what happens."
Ramona repeated the name under her breath, still frowning. Evan Aldren. It meant nothing to her yet, but the way her father spoke it made her give him one last unsure look before turning and leaving the room.
Only then did Raymon let his shoulders drop as a faint shudder passed through him. He raised a hand to his face and rubbed his eyes, looking older than his years.
He had not told her everything.
Evan Aldren was not simply an old feared wolf. He was one of the very few who had learned and understood ancient forms of magic and could probably recognize them at a glance while most wolves could not. Because Evan Aldren was the only wolf to have had a fated mate bond with a witch descendant...
