Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking-Chapter 536 : Breakthrough Conflict
--
The strange fluctuation startled the audience, especially those who had witnessed Cedric's breakthrough back then because they didn't remember something like this happening.
By now, it's obvious that this event was a big deal, so anything that's out of the norm would be scrutinized deeply.
Following that sound was another spectacle that surprised everyone.
Behind Jormund's body, a blurry phantom of something appeared. Looking at it closely reveals that this phantom looks a lot like Jormund; however, this one carried a far more archaic and primal aura, one that greatly exceeds what Jormund usually exudes normally.
"Atavism!!" The voice of the Primal Beast Chancellor cut through the stunned silence, surprising everyone.
Amongst everybody here, there isn't anyone more familiar and certain about this than him. He is, after all, the Chancellor of the Primal Beast Clan.
The Chancellor's gaze turned fiery as he stared closely at Jormund's body. He felt the immense latent bloodline power stirring awake within this guy, and it continued to rise as his breakthrough progressed.
Many thoughts ran in his mind because this event simply implies a lot.
Calling this an unprecedented event wouldn't be an understatement because it is known that any beast that couldn't achieve atavism before stepping into the Transitional Realm will never be able to achieve it for the rest of their lives.
Of course the Chancellor learned of Jormund's information already. He had known everything about the old snake since he arrived here. He knew that Jormund was kicked out of the sect because he failed to achieve atavism. This would normally be enough for the Chancellor to stop paying any further attention to him, but the fact that he came here and became the first one to conquer the ordeals of the Ancient Chaos Path raised the Chancellor's opinion of him.
And now, witnessing this seemingly impossible event made the Chancellor even more certain that his decision to support this project was correct. Hell, he's even thinking about sending more. Because if even one amongst a thousand beastmen managed to achieve what Jormund has, then all of his investments will be so damn worth it.
Contrary to what the Primal Beast Chancellor felt, however, Cedric's mood was solemn.
If the Chancellor was the most familiar with atavism here, then Cedric was the most familiar with the Ancient Chaos Path, specifically the Void Refinement Realm. He's the first one in this era to achieve it, after all.
Because of this, Cedric has already foreseen the complications.

Everyone was startled as blood started spurting out of Jormund's orifices. His face contorted in immense pain. Anybody could tell that he's suffering immensely due to something.
This made the Primal Beast Chancellor anxious, so he turned to Cedric and asked, "What's happening to him?"
Instead of Cedric, though, it was the Wise Dragon Chancellor who replied to him.
"The essences of his breakthroughs are clashing. The essence of Atavism is to tap into the deepest secrets and power of one's latent bloodline and, if possible, return to one's Primal Beast Form. On the other hand, the essence of the Ancient Chaos Path is to open up an Inner World and mimic the birth of Primordial Chaos starting with Void Refinement."
"Since both are happening at the same time, Jormund's focus is stretched too thin. He's having a difficult time deciding which one to focus on. Actually, it might not even be possible to focus on just one since both are happening at the same time."
"His atavism was triggered by his initial refinement of the Void. It's probably the first strand of Chaos Energy that triggered it in the first place. So it's very unlikely that he could just choose which one to focus on for now."
The Primal Beast Chancellor was stunned as he heard this explanation. He looked at Cedric, seeking some kind of confirmation, and he saw him nodding.
"It's indeed as the chancellor said," Cedric replied. "I do apologize for this. I honestly didn't see this coming. I should've paid more attention and included the possibility of atavism within my calculations."
The Primal Beast Chancellor sighed and felt a bit bitter; that said, he honestly couldn't blame Cedric either.
"This isn't your fault. It's normal for you to not expect this; after all, the only basis you have for this project was your personal experience. Moreover, you're not a beast. Additionally, it was common knowledge that Atavism shouldn't even be considered for him since he's way past that point."
"Is there any assistance we can offer, though?" Silas asked beside Cedric.
Cedric pursed his lips and thought for a bit. Then, instead of replying to Silas, he instead sent a voice transmission to Jormund first.
'Endure, Jormund.'
Jormund, who had been subjected to monstrous torment, suddenly heard the familiar voice of Cedric cutting through his pain and reaching him.
'You might be confused right now, and that's fine. This is an unforeseen event, after all.'
'You're going through Atavism on top of your Void Refinement Breakthrough. The first strands of Chaos Energy you refined triggered this somehow; that's why you're in so much pain.'
While this explanation didn't alleviate the pain he's experiencing, Jormund still appreciates the clarification. At the very least, he now knows exactly why the torment he's experiencing was way above his expectations.
'You are no longer in a position to prioritize one thing over the other. Both the Void Refinement and the Atavism are tied to your very existence. You can't choose since both must happen at the same time.'
'So, I suggest that you stop vying for control.'
'Let it all happen naturally. Just guard your mind and spirit so that you won't lose yourself to this.'
'By all means, you've already succeeded. You've made a breakthrough and reached your goal. The atavism, while an added torment to you, is in fact a bonus.'
'Let the rest happen naturally. Guard your mind and observe. We'll figure out the rest afterwards.'
Well, Jormund doesn't necessarily have any other options, does he? After all, this wasn't something that was included in the information he got after fusing with the Primordial Chaos Spark.
With that said, he released his control over his breakthrough. Opting to let everything else happen naturally and only holding on to the reins of his mind and spirit.
To his surprise, as soon as he did so, the pain faded almost instantly. What's even more surprising is that he actually started feeling good. Like he was soaking in a warm spring after a long day of work.
Had he known that it'd be like this, then he would've relented control earlier.
The comfort was too much that it tempted him to sleep, but he forced himself to remain awake. Cedric suggested he observe the process, and that's exactly what he planned on doing.
His consciousness arrived at his germinating inner world. He was witnessing its creation, and it fascinated him endlessly. It didn't take long before he fell into a trance.
Outside, Cedric and the rest saw the changes in Jormund.
First, his expression turned peaceful, signifying that he's no longer in pain. Moreover, his life signs stabilized and became even stronger despite the massive changes that are happening within him.
It didn't take long before they all witnessed his true evolution, though...
They watched as threads of Chaos Energy seeped out of Jormund's body, encasing him into a cocoon. Once inside, the fluctuations and changes became even stronger.
Jormund's Inner World was subconsciously launched. It's mostly being filled with neutralized void; the only part where the Chaos Energy was present was close to where the cocoon was.
"This aura...why does it feel familiar to me?" Silas tilted his head in confusion. The Holy Spirit and the Titan and Celestial Chancellors also hummed in response.
"It's the aura of the Cosmic Serpent." The Primal Beast Chancellor responded, his voice filled with pride and ecstasy. "Hah! Worth it! This is so worth it!"
"Mn, this is good. To witness somebody evolving to a Cosmic Serpent through Atavism is indeed a major blessing." The Wise Dragon Chancellor sounded wistful as he said this.
Cedric recalled the information about the Cosmic Serpents—to say that they're god-like creatures wouldn't be an understatement. Cosmic Serpents had black holes in their stomachs, allowing them to devour pretty much anything that existed. That black hole serves as their digestive system that will break down anything it touches into nutrients for the serpent.
Cosmic Serpents are inherently gifted in space and devouring laws, making them one of the most elusively dangerous creatures around. Moreover, there's no known limit to how big they can get either; it might even be possible for them to grow large and long enough to wrap themselves around the entire realm.
The reason why other chancellors felt familiar with this aura was because they'd encountered it before. The previous Primal Beast Chancellor had the same bloodline; only his was weaker than Jormund's. It's only vaguely familiar to them since it's been such a long time since they last felt it. But obviously, to the current Primal Beast Chancellor and the Wise Dragon Chancellor, it's different.
"Well, it seems that this will go well then," Cedric said, but his tone was a bit strange.
"Since Jormund has turned into a Cosmic Serpent, it would make sense for us to prepare a lavish banquet for him after he comes out of that cocoon."
Saying this, Cedric's icy gaze landed on the opening on the seal above them.
