Endless Debt-Chapter 968 - 62: Inexplicable
"What’s going on!"
Morrison cursed. He had repeatedly emphasized the danger of these sealed canisters, yet this foolish mistake still occurred.
"Damn merchants!"
He continued to chastise the merchants of the Gray Trade Association, due to the corrosiveness of the decay epidemic, which was extremely difficult to store. All storage canisters were merely consumables in this regard, needing periodic replacement, and transporting the decay epidemic itself required highly challenging operations.
The Gray Trade Association was very eager to hand them over to the King’s Shield Guard. A major reason was that the Gray Trade Association spent a large amount of wealth annually to maintain and store these gases, and due to treaty restrictions, almost no customers would need such weapons.
They were eager to sell the decay epidemic to the King’s Shield Guard. These madmen were not only unafraid to oppose the King’s Secret Sword but also not afraid of the treaties customized by the Order Bureau—they were a group of desperate outlaws, and nothing they did was surprising.
Morrison had to act quickly. Once the decay epidemic eroded other sealed canisters, it would trigger a series of chain reactions. By then, even before unleashing it, the Fog Abyss Fortress would first be destroyed by the erosion of the decay epidemic.
He picked up the prepared sealing strip, made of special material. Although it couldn’t stop the erosion of the decay epidemic, it could greatly slow down its rate of corrosion.
Morrison held his breath, releasing all his ether. Although he hadn’t mastered the ethereal barrier, he still managed to construct an ethereal defense on his body surface, like an air shield, relying on the high-intensity ether leakage.
A high-concentration ether flow swiftly swept across the body surface, counteracting the decay epidemic it touched. Handling this strange and deadly gas was actually quite simple; it was like an invisible flame, and once it eroded enough, it would gradually deplete itself.
Morrison applied the sealing strip to the leak, the spread of the decay epidemic halted, and Morrison completely released his ether. The dispersing ether touched the gas, producing crackling sounds like an electric current in the air.
Accompanied by a few sparks appearing out of thin air, Morrison’s ether reacted with the decay epidemic, consuming the deadly gas entirely.
Morrison gasped for breath, the ether required to consume the decay epidemic was considerable, and even though he could call upon the surrounding ether, it wasn’t an easy task. After all, the decay epidemic itself reacted with the ether, creating an ethereal vacuum area.
The deep part of the building resounded with ether impacts again, the intruders were already battling with the King’s Shield Guards. Morrison wasn’t sure who was confronting the enemy, but judging from the expanding intensity of the ether, Morrison speculated that the opponent must be a Negative Power User.
With this in mind, Morrison’s hand involuntarily dropped to the hilt of his sword. Ever since the betrayal from the King’s Secret Sword, joining the King’s Shield Guard, Morrison had been eager for a confrontation with the Order Bureau.
Morrison yearned for the clash of blades, not to be here, responsible for transferring these decay epidemics like a logistics manager.
He breathed repeatedly to suppress his restless mind. Morrison understood that his current job was much more important than facing the enemy. He had to ensure the safety of these decay epidemics...
Morrison suddenly froze, standing stupefied between the sealed canisters. An inexplicable sensation flowed around him, as if someone was walking past him.
The emerging decay epidemic interfered with Church’s secret energy, causing his form to ripple, and absolute concealment was difficult to maintain. A blurry, indistinct phantom appeared out of thin air.
Church felt a wave of unease, and then a gaze fell upon him.
Morrison detected him, looking towards the phantom.
In an instant, Church’s muscles tensed completely, watching as Morrison approached him. This Negative Power User sensed the anomaly and closed the distance between them, cornering Church with his hand ready on the hilt, prepared to draw his sword at any moment.
This was truly an unfortunate situation. The pervasive decay epidemic disrupted everyone’s secret energy and hindered the will of every living creature.
Being discovered was only a matter of time. After a moment’s hesitation, Church made a reckless move.
Following his intuition, Morrison looked at the invisible phantom, only to see a fly slowly flying past.
A fly?
Morrison quickly realized, how could there possibly be a fly here? In the instant of contact with the decay epidemic, all insects would die.
As he noticed the anomaly, the fly swept past a sealed canister, and in the next second, they all burst open, spewing deadly gas.
There was no time to dodge. The deadly gas brushed against Morrison’s body, causing the ether on the surface to flare intensely, and then the decay epidemic consumed the ether, corroding through his clothes and leaving a rapidly rotting scar on his skin.
Meanwhile, Church broke his near-perfect cycle, establishing interaction and connection with the outside world, the cognitive distortion dissipated. Morrison watched as the fly distorted and transformed into Church, who raised a dagger, stabbing it fiercely toward another sealed canister.
As a professional intelligence officer, Church rarely made mistakes, let alone perform tasks outside his function.
According to the original plan, Church only needed to leave now, taking the intelligence that the King’s Shield Guard had prepared the decay epidemic. But this time, perhaps due to Bologue’s battle with the enemy, or due to a series of coincidences, Church violated his usual principles and made a completely different decision.
