Chapter 899: Chapter 35: The Envious Leviathan

After a brief moment of darkness, Bologue and Nesanel left the Inverted Hall together. This time, instead of appearing directly in the gray corridor, they found themselves in another dark space.

Bologue remembered this; Nesanel called it the Audience Chamber. This mysterious space, like the Inverted Hall, could block the Devil’s prying eyes, but among the many Devils, it mainly guarded against Belphegor within the House of the Rising Sun. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

The Order Bureau never trusts the Devil, and no rational person should.

"Anything you want to say?"

Nesanel waved his hand, and two chairs appeared in the dim space. Bologue and he sat down, and Nesanel raised his hand again, drawing a bottle of wine from the void.

Bologue was no longer surprised, remembering this same demeanor from last time.

Sipping the sweet liquid, it slid down his throat like cold water onto an overheated engine, causing Bologue to feel a tingling sensation, and his heavy consciousness lightened considerably.

Bologue began to understand why people liked to indulge in alcohol, as these delightful liquids temporarily extracted one’s mind to find brief peace in the gaps of illusion.

"So many things I want to say," Bologue began, "but as they reach my lips, I don’t know which one to start with."

Nesanel smiled, "Take your time, I have all the time in the world."

Bologue looked up at Nesanel and softly lamented, "I feel like a giant net is gradually wrapping around me, it’s about to catch me and suffocate me."

Initially, Bologue thought he was too deeply entangled with the Astronaut, but now it seemed that the Order Bureau was the real source of suspicion.

From the Wrath of Scorched Earth to now, Bologue realized every move the Order Bureau made towards him was calculated by the Chosen One; the trajectory they deemed would maximize future benefits.

There were too many things Bologue wanted to know.

"Are you asking about yourself?" Nesanel continued, "I’m sorry about that; you were contained in an era before I was born, so what I know of you comes from documents. Those who witnessed you then, most are dead now."

Bologue fell silent, sensing that once he uncovered the truth of the Wrath of Scorched Earth, it would mark both the beginning and the end of everything.

No one told Bologue why this was the case, but he just had this gut feeling.

His intuition is always correct.

After hesitating for a long time, Bologue did not pursue this question further; he was very aware, conscious of where his psychological issues lay.

The troubling thing is, sometimes you’re consciously sinking.

More and more questions, like a thick task list, filled Bologue’s mind. He forced himself not to think too far ahead but to focus on the present.

Suddenly, Bologue asked, "The woman, the current fourth Director, is she Belphegor’s Chosen One?"

This question undoubtedly hit Nesanel’s core, his smiling expression becoming stiff like an unmeltable ice.

The air was filled with a faint sadness.

"Uh-huh."

"Can you tell me about what happened then?" Bologue asked, "About the events during the Secret War."

Bologue had paid attention to the inner workings of the Secret War, but the intelligence available to him was all publicly disclosed. Bologue was aware there must be many classified documents within the Order Bureau.

"How should I put it?"

Nesanel showed a troubled look, "The beginning happened as you know it, without any sign, when Overlord Xilin suddenly attacked the Cultivation Room. His terrifying force caused even the Cultivation Room to crumble under his pressure."

"Things happened too abruptly; although we had a series of countermeasures, under Xilin’s Glory Seeker Level power, all resistance proved futile."

Nesanel paused, "He was too strong, far stronger than the Glory Seekers within common understanding. If it weren’t for his Ether reactions still being at Glory Seeker strength, I’d almost believe he became the Crowned."

"How did you manage to kill him?"

"She was inside the Order Bureau then, also a Seeker of Glory, but not a combat type. She was one of the rare Glory Seekers from the Secret Revelation school."

Nesanel continued, "Every Director contributed to the Order Bureau to varying degrees, and her achievement was leveraging the characteristics of the Secret Revelation school to conduct significant iterative updates for the Chosen One, allowing virtual personas of former Directors to assume different roles based on logical traits.

Someone like Maria, she’s quite suited for diplomacy."

Discussing the past was no easy task. Nesanel hadn’t talked about these things in ages. He couldn’t refuse Bologue, so he revealed these stories.

"According to her design, once she integrated into the Chosen One, exhaustive calculations would be further optimized, minimizing and potentially eliminating the influence of variance on situations."

Nesanel tried his best to hide his emotions, "Of course, everything was disrupted."

"When Xilin invaded, we deployed several Seekers of Glory, but those were merely relics of the past era. Even as Seekers of Glory, due to differences in the Alchemy Matrix’s advancement, they barely resisted Xilin."

He joked, "Like cavalry charging at a tank fleet."
