Eldritch Assassin: Reincarnated With An SSS-Rank Devouring System-Chapter 126: Lady Yue
The second guard shamelessly joined the fight. He attacked from Kael's left, sword thrusting toward his ribs.
Kael twisted, grabbing the blade with his bare hand. His palm was coated with a thin layer of primal energy. The sword screeched against it as sparks flew.
He yanked hard, pulling the guard off balance. His other hand came up, an elbow strike to the man's face. The guard's nose shattered, blood sprayed. He fell back with a cry.
The crowd erupted in shocked murmurs.
"He's fighting them equally!"
"How is that possible?"
"A Level 1 against Level 5s..."
"This is insane..."
The third guard joined the assault, then the fourth. Now all four surrounded Kael. Their swords flashed from multiple angles. A coordinated attack. Their movements were synchronized.
Kael moved like water between them. His Crescent Requiem Dao guided his footwork. Reading the flow of their attacks, predicting the rhythm. Each step placed him exactly where he needed to be.
A blade came from above. He shifted left. Another thrust from behind. He spun. His hand caught the guard's wrist. He twisted the wrist. The man's grip loosened. Kael ripped the sword from his hand and threw it away. It clattered across the cobblestones. He didn't feel like killing anyone today.
His palm struck the disarmed guard's chest. The impact sent him flying backward. He crashed into a vegetable stall. Wood splintered as produce scattered everywhere.
The lead guard snarled in rage. He channeled more primal energy into his sword. The blade glowed faintly. His cultivation surged. He wasn't holding back anymore.
The strike came fast. Faster than before. Aimed at Kael's neck. A lethal killing blow.
Kael's hand shot up, catching the blade between two fingers. Just two fingers. The sword stopped completely, trembling from the force and grip. The guard's eyes went wide. Disbelief written across his face.
"Impossible," the guard whispered.
Kael's silver eyes were cold. "You're too weak."
He twisted his wrist. The sword shattered as metal fragments rained down. The guard stood frozen in disbelief, staring at his broken weapon. Not understanding how this had happened.
Kael's palm pressed against the man's chest. He made a simple push, but backed by perfect technique. The guard flew backward, hitting the ground hard. He rolled several times before coming to a stop groaning.
Three guards were down now. Only one still standing. But that one had stopped attacking. His sword lowered slightly. Fear showed in his eyes.
This wasn't a Level 1 cultivator. He couldn't be. No one at Level 1 Primal Adept Realm was as strong as this.
Clearstar Wei's face had gone pale by now. The rage was still there, but underneath it now was something else. Uncertainty. Fear.
"What are you waiting for?" he screamed at the remaining guard. "Attack! Kill him!"
The guard didn't move. His hand trembled on his sword hilt.
The crowd was in complete shock. Silence had fallen again. But different from before. This wasn't the silence of anticipated entertainment. This was the silence of witnessing something impossible.
Someone fighting four levels above their cultivation. And winning. That was unheard of.
---
Two figures watched from a distance. They stood in the shadow of a building across the street. Hidden from casual view but with a clear line of sight to the confrontation.
One was a young woman, maybe seventeen or eighteen. She wore deep red elegant robes, embroidered with silver moons. Her hair was pulled back in an intricate style. Her face was beautiful with sharp features. She had intelligent eyes, but there was steel underneath the beauty.
Beside her stood an older woman, maybe thirty. She wore simpler robes but looked like a
powerful cultivator. Her hand rested casually on her sword hilt. Her cultivation was substantial. The peak of Primal Adept at least, maybe higher.
"Interesting," the young woman murmured. Her voice was culturedly refined but with an edge to it. "Very interesting."
The guard beside her nodded. "He's fighting equally against four Level 5 Primal Adept guards without a weapon. At Level 1 Primal Adept himself." Her tone was neutral but impressed. "I haven't seen that kind of skill in years. Although, they're just normal guards without their house's training, it's still impressive."
"Who is he?" the young woman asked.
"Unknown, my lady. He's not from any of the local sects or houses within our kingdom. Based on his robes, likely a rogue cultivator. But..." The guard paused. "No normal rogue cultivator fights like that."
The young woman's lips curved slightly. Not quite a smile. "No. They don't." Her eyes tracked Kael's movements, studying him. "His technique is refined. He's had serious training and real combat experience."
"Should we intervene?" the guard asked.
"No." The young woman's response was immediate. "Let's watch for now. I want to see how this ends."
Down below, Kael remained surrounded. But he showed no concern or fear. His breathing was steady. Like this was just another training exercise.
The young woman watching knew who Clearstar Wei was. Everyone in the capital did. The pampered second son. The top bully of the capital city. Protected by his father's power. By his brother's reputation as one of the ten geniuses of the younger generation.
The Clearstar Estate. This was the strongest of the three ducal houses in Mei Kingdom. Acknowledged by everyone as number one. Their power was vast. Their connections deeper.
Her own family was second. The Redmoon Estate. A strong, wealthy, and influential family, but always in the shadow of Clearstar.
The two houses were always competing. Always looking for advantages to weaken each other.
The third house was Brightsun Estate. Powerful in their own right, but weaker than the top two. They were content to maintain their position rather than challenge for higher rank.
The Clearstar and Redmoon estates were enemies. Not openly or with declarations and battles. But in every other way. Political maneuvers. Economic competition. Social undermining. Always looking for opportunities to weaken the other. To gain ground.
And now here was an unknown cultivator. Someone with incredible skill. Someone who had just humiliated Clearstar Wei in public. Someone who was currently dominating the Clearstar guards in battle.
This was an opportunity. The young woman recognized it immediately.
"Find out everything you can about him," she told her guard quietly. "Name. Background. Where he's staying. What he's doing in the capital. Everything."
The guard nodded. "Yes, Lady Yue."
Lady Yue's eyes never left Kael. She watched as he fought. As he demonstrated skill far beyond what his cultivation level should allow.
"This could be a useful opportunity," she murmured. More to herself than to her guard. "Very useful indeed."
Down below, Clearstar Wei had finally realized how badly this had gone. His guards were beaten. His face was ruined. His pride shattered. And a crowd of hundreds had witnessed all of it.
"You'll regret this," he spat at Kael. Blood still dripped from his mouth. "My elder brother will hear about this. You're dead. Your entire family is dead. Everyone you've ever known is dead!"
Kael's expression didn't change. "I'm sure they will." His voice was flat, unimpressed. "Now. SCRAM!"
"I'll—"
"SCRAM!" The single word carried authority. "Before I decide you need another lesson in manners."
Clearstar Wei's mouth snapped shut. Genuine fear flashed across his face. For the first time in his privileged life, he felt real danger. Real threat.
He scrambled to his feet, stumbling. One of his guards had to support him. The four of them retreated, backing away. A stark contrast to the grand manner they'd arrived. They didn't turn their backs until they'd put distance between themselves and Kael.
The crowd parted for them. No one dared to speak or laugh. This wasn't entertainment anymore. This was serious.
Clearstar Wei cast one last look back. Hate burning in his eyes. "You're dead," he mouthed.
Kael stood alone in the street. The crowd remained silent. Waiting to see what he would do.
He simply turned and walked away. His boots clicked on the cobblestones unhurriedly. Like nothing had happened at all.
The crowd finally erupted. Voices overlapping in excitement and shock. Telling and retelling what they'd just witnessed.
High above in her hidden position, Lady Redmoon Yue smiled. A real smile this time.
"Yes," she said softly. "Very useful indeed."
