Chapter 100: The Tipping Point

Damien rushed to the apartment Starlink first. He had to stop Vivienne before she uploaded another video. But she wasn’t there.

Then he drove to the Sinclair Lifestyle Headquarters. When the guards stopped him from entering, he simply called for backup.

Five burly men knocked out the security guard, and they hunted for Vivienne throughout the whole building while Damien reached Elliot Sinclair’s office.

"Where is your daughter?" Damien demanded. His expression was dark, and fury was visible in his eyes.

Elliot breathed out first to subside his irritation. He was no less worked up from Vivienne’s video. So he picked up his mobile and played the audio Vivienne had sent him, in case Damien went there to threaten them.

[Damien Ashford, don’t you dare threaten my father or attack Sinclair Lifestyle. If you do, I won’t just reveal your name. I’ll expose all your plans with the Laurents through the media.]

She laughed maliciously as she added, [I have proof not just of your plan, Damien, but of you fucking me on the dining table. If you want a teaser of it, I dare you to hurt the company.]

The audio ended.

Elliot felt his blood boil. He wasn’t just angry at Damien, but also at his daughter. But all he could do was hope for the best. If Vivienne gets caught by Damien, then he won’t let Sinclair Lifestyle or the Sinclairs continue living.

"Fuck," Damien growled.

He believed Vivienne. Especially because of how she seduced him, how obedient she was, and how she disappeared the next day. He had thought she might have gone to work, but that was the last time he had seen her.

As if Vivienne could see Damien in the office, his mobile beeped.

Damien looked at his mobile to find a new audio message received from Vivienne. He desperately clicked play.

[Damien, Damien, Damien...] her voice sweet yet provoking. [I know you want to end this cat and mouse game today. I know you are thirsting for my blood. But guess what, if I’m going to hell, you are coming with me.] She laughed hysterically, as if possessed.

Damien ground his teeth and roared at Elliot, "Where the fuck is she?"

Elliot was equally annoyed, "If I knew, I wouldn’t be sitting here." Though he was pissed off at her actions, she was his daughter. He would have slapped her across the face to bring her to her senses and kept her safe, or even apologized to Damien.

Damien paced in the office, restless, heart pounding against his ribs, and his teeth grinding. He wasn’t able to think of any other place where she could hide.

"What does she want?" He roared in the office.

Since she hadn’t demanded anything, he started thinking if she was up to destroying him purely out of hatred.

He rushed out of the Sinclair Lifestyle headquarters, but he didn’t know where to go to find her. His mobile started ringing, displaying ’CFO Charlie.’ He ended the call.

He looked at his secretary and hissed, "Do any of her friends know?"

"No, Sir." the secretary immediately responded.

His phone again started ringing, displaying the same name, ’CFO Charlie.’ He ended the call and immediately dialed Leo Silvers.

He got in the car as he instructed his secretary and Leo, "Urban Pulse. Gather your men."

Damien received more than four calls from CFO Charlie. Annoyed, he didn’t listen to Charlie when he answered the call, "Stop calling me. Deal with your shit on your own." And he ended the call.

....

At Urban Pulse,

Damien rushed inside and met Leo, who was instructing one of the managers. "Leo..."

Leo followed Damien as he asked, "What is happening, Damien? What is she up to?"

"That fucking bitch... she is saying she has something against me and recorded us together," Damien responded through gritted teeth.

That changed Leo’s expression, too. If that video reached the hands of the Laurents, they could cause havoc in Damien’s life. But... "Just prove it was before the wedding."

Damien had thought of it. But he had to check the video to make sure he could manipulate it and blame Vivienne.

The two men stood in front of twenty men who looked like thugs. The ones who would do anything for money.

Damien began, his eyes brushing over each one of the men. "I will reward you with a million if you bring that bitch, Vivienne Sinclair, to me by tomorrow." His voice hardened, "Break bones, spill blood, tear this city apart if you have to, but I want her alive and breathing when you drag her to me. "

He wanted her alive, not just to vent his frustration but to come up with a fake story to avoid the public or administration doubting anybody or connecting the dots toward him.

A million?

Of course, that brightened the eyes of not just those men but also Leo. That was a lot of money. And he could guess why Damien was putting such a huge price on it.

His project-Crown, and marriage with Aveline were on the line. And those were worth billions of dollars.

"Yes, Sir," the men responded and rushed out to get on with the work.

Leo started thinking about how he could gather other men to put them on the search and get the money.

"Ric... Ric could help you," Leo added, as Lancaster’s network was huge. "Just fake an apology."

Just the name was enough to make Damien lose his cool. "That fucker is eyeing Aveline. He threatened me that he would spill my secret to her on the day of the signing ceremony." The words tasted bitter in his mouth.

Leo wouldn’t have believed Alaric showing interest in Aveline if he hadn’t seen Alaric helping Aveline down the stairs during the gala. Anyway, he could only say, "I’ll see what I can do," and left the room to arrange his team in search of Vivienne.

Damien unscrewed the water bottle and was chugging the water to relax when his mobile ominously rang in the room.

Throwing the bottle, he looked at the caller’s name. ’Nina.’

’Not now.’ Closing his eyes for a moment to ease himself, he answered the call, "Nina... did you reach the office safely?" His voice was gentle.

[Damien, yeah, I reached the office safely. Earlier, I went to meet Chairman Rowe.] Damien furrowed his brow as soon as he heard it. She continued, [You won’t believe me. The CFO of Ashford Holdings is a fraud.]

And there, his face paled. His palms began sweating. He felt like his lungs were folding in. Each second was louder than the last as she continued without a pause, without letting him process it.

[Since I’m considered the largest shareholder, Chairman Rowe showed me the documents and informed me that she was going to report him. It’s a matter of hundreds of millions, Damien. How crafty has he been to fool you all these years? We shouldn’t go easy on him. Don’t lend him the Ashford lawyers.]

And she gave a pause. She let out a sigh as her voice softened, [I’m so sorry, I was just infuriated, spouted everything without thinking. You trusted him so much, you must be heartbroken. You are just too kind and trust people too easily. Don’t blame yourself.]

And she ended. However, Damien wasn’t in a condition to respond. His thoughts were spiraling out of control. Cold dread crept up his spine like ice water in his veins. His chest tightened as if invisible hands were squeezing the life out of him.

If Charlie Harmon was caught, it wouldn’t be long before he would be behind bars with him.

[Damien....? Damien...?]

He just ended the call. His whole world tilted on its axis as he slumped on the couch. Everything he had built, Ashford Holdings, the project Crown, his image, his marriage, was now hanging on the next 24 hours. And he had no idea where to start.

He was still trying to process what he could do when his secretary rushed in with a pale face.

The secretary hesitated, looking at Damien’s condition. His hands shook as he extended his mobile toward Damien and played the video.

The cover picture of the video was Vivienne, and the caption was "This Is Not A Coincidence."

Vivienne was sitting in the same setting, wearing the same dress and the same expression. She smiled wryly at the camera.

Vivienne started with a little sarcasm, "Yes, I know. Same dress. Same room. Still crying. I’m filming this all in one go. I thought to upload this right after the first one, but my phone is acting up due to calls, messages, and comments. So I will have to schedule each part to be released daily."

Then her tone shifted to more serious, as it lowered, "But listen carefully. If these videos stop suddenly, without a proper end... just know HE stopped me." She ended with a mysterious note.

After a long pause, she leaned forward, her voice turning sharper, "So let me explain. My jealousy? It wasn’t random. He surprised me with tickets to a prestigious fashion show. Said he pulled strings for it. I was thrilled. Until she arrived."

She smiled sadly as if she was recalling the incident, "She walked in wearing the designer’s newest season, before the public even knew it existed. The guards cleared the red carpet. Media cameras lowered, like they had been instructed to pretend she didn’t exist."

After a beat of stunned silence, she continued, "She didn’t pose. She just... walked, like she owned the moment."

Her voice softened, "Then she hugged the designer like an old friend. Sat in the front row. While we? We were in the back."

Vivienne smiled with reluctant admiration. "I was in awe of her. Genuinely. But that wasn’t the last time. There was... one more moment that made her unforgettable."

Her voice turned gloomy, "He orchestrated that moment, too." She took a deep breath. "Next part tomorrow."

The video ends.

The screen went black. So did Damien’s thoughts. He didn’t even blink. He was running out of time, out of lies, and out of people to blame.
