Echoes of the Wild: Tales of a Beast Tamer-Chapter 33 - - Academy Exams (5)
Chapter 33 - 33 - Academy Exams (5)
(Chris' PoV)
Now that the eggs are secured, let's go see if I can find anything useful for me immediately or directly. The eggs may be useful but I can't use them at this point.
I need to sell them for resources that can improve Snow.
I can't bond with them as without reaching the Bronze Rank, it's not the best idea to bond with another pet. I may try to bond with a pet but that could cause a backlash.
If only there was a device that could accurately tell whether we can bond with more pets or not, it would have been so easy.
Hmm, wait, how can I say that there is no such device?
I mean, not every invention would be released to the public. Just as the meditation techniques that are created and secured for their families, other inventions should be too, right?
Think about it. If you have a device that can tell how many you can bond at the same time, then that would be pretty advantageous but not to everyone.
If I bond with two pets, it may look advantageous but wouldn't be.
Whatever my family earns, it would be empty by the end of the month. With already an extra mouth in the form of Snow is some of a burden on them, how could they afford another extra mouth?
Sure, after this exam, if I get into a good academy, that would reduce the burden on them. I can even provide better resources for their growth after the academy.
Now think about the new tamers that came from ordinary families.
Even if they have the talent to support two or more beasts in the same rank, they can't exactly afford them. So, what's the point of knowing that fact for the poor?
At higher ranks, you may come to know about this and that time you can afford the costs.
At present, unless you come from a rich family, knowing that means squat. It won't help in any manner. So, there was no reason for the Federal Alliance to release news about that to others even if such a device exists.
Also, it's not like the Federal Alliance is the sole power that there is. Sure it presides over all, but it is made of many beast-tamer families that existed for a long time, especially the ones from Province One.
Province One or Central Province was once the last stronghold of humans, which saw the emergence of beast tamers.
The beast tamer families there are one of the first tamers in the history of this world. It is the richest and most powerful province of all. If such a device exists, only they could have created such.
Everyone is selfish. Though we are all humans, we wouldn't share things with each other unless there are benefits in doing so.
The beast tamers came out by chance and if there was no reason to spread the method, no one would have done so. if not, the humans wouldn't have survived this long nor they could have claimed the provinces that they have now.
I am not blaming them. It is what every human would do, well, except for a very few but those sages do seek spiritual enlightenment and the reason behind their sacrifices. There is literally no one who cares about nothing. Everyone cares about something. Most of the time it's materialistic, but sometimes spiritual.
Anyway, what I saying what that, even I would think about developing my family before thinking about others. So, if they have something like that and yet the public doesn't know, I don't blame them. I would do the exact same thing.
Only when I am sure that my family's legacy was secured would I release that to others, not even a moment before.
Anyway, the question remains, whether I should bond with the Serpent or not. let's think about later in the night when I rest. Since we have to stay for a week here, I do need to find a place to rest at night.
It should be on the top of my priorities, while I continue my hunt for now.
---
Later that night...
Hmm, the gains are good.
I can feel that Snow has improved a little. All the beasts that I encountered were only of Iron rank, so there was not much improvement.
The gains are the beast bodies and treasures that they were guarding. These treasures are not helpful for Bronze rank and above. This is why there are no bronze-rank ones here in the areas that I visited.
Even if that were the case, selling them would net me good money. Also, I can use them to improve my next beast pet.
I have already decided that one of the Evergreen Serpent eggs would be mine to bond. When it hatches, it needs a lot of treasures to quickly level it up and make it reach bronze rank.
I can't have one at Iron rank while the other is at Bronze rank. It would make the fight problematic. Snow fighting Iron rank would yield nothing and the new pet can't fight Bronze rank ones. So, before both are at Bronze rank, it would be one-on-one fights for both of them.

This would decrease the rate at which they improve. I can't have that. So, the second beast needs to reach bronze rank as soon as possible and these treasures should help a bit.
Now, let's properly check the eggs that I got from the Evergreen Serpent. I didn't take a good look at them back then as I didn't have sufficient time.
Hmm, this is a mutated one.
Normally, eggs don't show if the beasts that would be born were mutated but there are always some exceptions and eggs like that would be sold for higher rates than usual.
Everyone likes mutated beasts as they would be special and better than beasts of the same kind, most of the time.
As I said, mutation doesn't mean good. It just means the beast took a different route than normal and that's it.
This is definitely going to be my bonded beast. I am not going to sell such a precious one to outsiders. If there were others like this, I would have given to my family but there were none.
Now, the question that remains is whether I should try my luck or not.
