Chapter 32 - Academy Exams (4)

(Chris's PoV)

We started out journey but didn't find anything.

There was green grass everywhere. Nothing else.

Yeah, the area where I was teleported to was entirely green grass and nothing else. Even after walking for half an hour, we found nothing but the grass.

Is there nothing here?

No, how can that be?

That's almost impossible. Though the chances of finding treasures are not high, encountering beasts every now and then is what everyone experiences but not encountering one for more than half an hour. That's unlikely.

This chapter is updat𝓮d by freēnovelkiss.com.

There is something here but what exactly that is, I can't see it.

Either the beast is very strong when compared to us or it is very good at hiding. These are the only two reasons why I think I didn't find anything here.

I mean, if its Innate talent is based on hiding, even wolves which are known for their scent-tracking noses, would find it hard to find them.

If it is strong, then it must have devoured all the beasts that were in the region and no other beast dared to enter the region again.

These are the only two reasons I can think of behind this situation.

In fact there is a third. It's a mix of first and second.

The beast is invisible and strong enough to devour the nearby beasts, thereby deterring other beasts from entering its territory.

Out of the three given choices, I strongly believe that the third most likely is the reason behind the absence of beasts in the area.

Since it's strong and invisible, I need to be cautious. I need to find it before it acts first or I would be in danger.

Now where are you?

---

It took me some time but I finally found it.

The beast was a snake beast. It coiled itself tightly around something, but I can't see it clearly. It might be a treasure but that is not of the first priority here.

The first priority was the snake beast. It has sensed me long ago it seems, as when I saw it, it had its eyes on me but for whatever reason, it didn't act directly.

First, let's see what kind of a beast it is exactly and then decide how to proceed.

--

Name: Evergreen Serpant

Rank: Iron, level 9 (Peak)

--

Since, it is not my pet, I can't exactly see its skills, only the name and rank. Even that comes with restrictions.

If the rank of the beast was higher than mine, then except for the name, I wouldn't have been able to even see its rank.

Even though I can't see the skills, I have read about this beast in the books.

Evergreen Serpent was known for its hiding abilities, especially in grasslands filled with green grass. It's their favourite area to live in as its natural colour is green.

No wonder it took me a long time to even detect it.

"Snow, use your Frost bullets on it. Make sure, that those attacks land only on the serpent, not around. It is protecting something good, I don't want to get destroyed by the battle", I ordered my pet mentally.

Pui! Pui!

Snow acknowledged my command and used its attack on the serpent.

The serpent was enraged by our attack. It immediately left its position and came at us furiously. Though it has no human face, I can understand that it was furious.

I don't know why it was furious but it works to my advantage.

It attacked Snow first because Snow was after all the being that attacked it. Though it was only an Iron Level beast, it fought well.

Well, serpents are known to be poisonous.

Evergreen Serpent may have Invisibility talent but their skills revolve around poision. So, if their skill attacks land on us, then that would be.

Snow being agile kept its distance from the serpent. If my pet lacked long-range attacks then that would have been it, for both of us.

Luckily that was not the case.

Though the serpent fought bravely, it didn't use its mind properly. it only kept attacking us without any rhythm. So in the end, it lost.

Also, Snow being a level higher than it helped the outcome of course but I wouldn't think that it would be this easy. I mean, I felt that the serpent was a bit weak too.

Though it was my first time, it did not liven up to the expectations that I got from reading about it in the books.

---

Now, it's dead, let's see what it was protecting. It was so protective of that so much so that, it didn't leave whatever it was protecting after sensing me.

I hope it's a good treasure.

Hmm, what is this?

An egg?

No, it's a cluster of eggs. There are a lot of eggs here.

Ah, it looks like the serpent has laid down her eggs and judging by the situation, that happened recently, probably a few minutes before I arrived.

This probably is the reason why it didn't directly attack me as it was weak from laying the eggs and when it did, it was so furious and attacked me like that. It was protecting its future cubs.

Well, though it is not a treasure, I can sell these eggs for a lot. I can even bond with one after reaching the Bronze Rank and give one to each of my family.

Well, not all as not everyone can make the best use of snake beasts. So, it's best to sell them.

The sell rate should be pretty high. Evergreen Serpent is after all dubbed a Silent Assassin of forests.

Though it may be like grasslands, it's deadly wherever there is greenery. Even if it was not using its skill, it can still be invisible, if no one was looking for it properly.

This is a perfect partner to lure the enemy and attack silently in the wild.

Hmm, I should keep one for myself and distribute some to my family, while most would be sold at an auction for the best rate. I need a lot of food to feed two pets.

I can't even feed one at the moment. So, feeding two would be a nightmare.
