Chapter 48 - 48: The Demon King's Humiliation

'It's all well and good to have declared I'd blow everything up with an explosion, but... I forgot one detail.'

As he had stored up his mana to unleash the most devastating explosion possible, Sanguinius involuntarily looked at his wrist.

It showed a trust number fluctuating between 2000 and 3000.

A very high number, considering he had only lived in the city of Axel in this universe and only for a few weeks.

'The quality of this trust isn't very high, but what if I beat up and drag the demon king to the capital for his execution?'

The idea excited him, but he'd look like a liar if he took back his words now.

After all, Archer and the other chat group members were watching the live stream.

No choice.

His word was more important at this level of his ascension.

He'd have to potentially give up some trust, but he could always prove his subjugation of the 'world problem' thanks to his guild card.

Just as he was about to cast the spell, an individual leading several demons suddenly emerged from the gloomy edifice.

If it had just been a simple demon, Sanguinius would have immediately pulverized it along with the rest.

However, this was an angel.

The Divination skill was immediately used on him to get information.

"I see, your sovereign hasn't taken me seriously yet and decided to send a... a colleague of yours?"

The annoying angel in front of him was known as White Robe, a former angel who worked in heaven.

Simply put, he was a fallen one.

Perhaps because of his connection to Aqua and Eris's dimension of origin, the Divination skill only showed his past up to the limit of the mortal world.

Wolbach neither confirmed nor denied his words.

She simply avoided his gaze.

"Doesn't matter..."

He didn't force Wolbach to answer, as he already knew a lot about the fallen angel before him.

Especially that he couldn't force real loyalty through violence alone.

Sanguinius unleashed his magic without restraint.

"Ex... plosion..."

Thanks to his angelic nature, White Robe released several barriers composed of Holy Power.

However, he was swept away by Sanguinius's explosion magic toward the castle.

The latter didn't take long to collapse after the blow.

Yet there was a problem despite the spectacle of pure destruction before Sanguinius.

"He survived? Did he use teleportation magic..."

He couldn't know, but the guild card was clear.

The demon king was still alive.

Without a shadow of hesitation, Sanguinius flew toward the castle ruins.

Wolbach didn't hesitate to follow him.

She knew very well that fleeing wasn't the solution when facing the monster beside her.

"You didn't mention a dragon, Wolbach."

During his flight over the ruins, Sanguinius searched for the demon king using his keen senses.

While clearing some debris, he came across a familiar yet unknown scent.

It was that of a dragoness.

"I... I thought it wasn't important and you didn't ask."

She wasn't wrong, but he might have just eliminated a potentially important future element.

The woman under the debris had a striking appearance, even by Konosuba universe standards.

Especially a specific part of her body, which rivaled those of Kalawarna and Wolbach.

"She's still alive." He carelessly grabbed the fallen dragoness before throwing her toward Wolbach.

'Even in this universe, dragons have tenacious vitality.'

Boom.

As he was thinking about the draconic race, he suddenly heard a loud explosion not far away.

"I figured he wouldn't have teleported, not in such a short time, and especially not because of my provocation."

Sanguinius approached the place where he sensed an enormous amount of magical energy with a nonchalant step.

His steps weren't hurried, as he instinctively felt the hostile atmosphere around him.

The demon king didn't plan to flee.

He soon spotted a man holding a woman in his arms, while his wrinkled face was stained with tears.

The demon (the man) wore sophisticated black clothing; he seemed to have an age similar to a man in his fifties.

Despite his severely injured state, he emitted a dark aura that resembled black mist.

'The strength of this unconscious dragoness seems to grow stronger the closer I get to this man.'

There was no doubt, Sanguinius stood before Konosuba's final boss.

The demon king.

"W... Wolbach."

His voice, broken by grief or age, echoed in the silence of the tense atmosphere.

Wolbach wanted to speak, but Sanguinius raised his hand to stop her.

A simple act, but one that drew a clear line.

Wolbach had to definitively choose a side.

"I see... you've betrayed me."

The demon king placed the woman, who seemed dead, on a rock.

His gesture was delicate, as if he were placing a piece of fragile glass.

"You're the creature who challenged me?"

Boom.

Despite his calm words, the old demon emanated an imposing and dignified aura.

There was no doubt for Sanguinius: he was definitely the strongest creature in Konosuba.

"Exactly. But do you really want to do this here?"

The demon king glanced at the surroundings, particularly toward his deceased daughter lying on a rock.

Unconsciously, he wondered if she would have survived the explosion if he had given her permission to leave earlier.

'Now it's too late... I must focus on this monster.'

To Sanguinius, the demon king seemed to be thinking about something before raising his hand in the air with the clear intention of casting a spell.

Sanguinius didn't stop him.

No murderous intent emanated from the man, and he didn't seem to want to flee, as his desire to fight was too palpable.

"Forced teleportation spell."

Sanguinius and the demon king disappeared before Wolbach to find themselves in a dimly lit place.

"You brought us to a dungeon."

Yes, the demon king had brought Sanguinius and himself to an unknown dungeon.

Despite his words, the demon king didn't respond.

His eyes fixed on Sanguinius's.

Despite the darkness, both adversaries could see as if in broad daylight.

'He's cunning...'

Sanguinius unconsciously smiled while looking at the old demon, because the latter had chosen this place for a simple reason:

He wanted to neutralize his pure destructive power, aka explosion magic.

Unfortunately for the demon king, his opponent had way too many different abilities.

"Cursed Lightning!!"

The first to attack was launched by the demon king, but his assault didn't find its target.

Slash.

Sanguinius had disappeared from his position, leaving behind a small crater in the ground—he had pushed off too hard.

'I feel like my feet are plunged in mud.' ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

His physical strength was simply terrifying.

He had moved behind the demon king before slashing his arm with a piece of bone.

'When the ogre used this against Dan Mori, it seemed painless but...'

Sanguinius felt his flesh tear, giving way to bone.

The bone in his hand was actually a fragment of his own body, which he had expelled to use as a blade.

This was an ability of dragons in The God of High School universe.

'My... my magical defense?!'

The demon king's face, filled with rage seconds earlier, was now marked by confusion.

But he didn't have time to react: Sanguinius grabbed him and brutally slammed him to the ground.

Crack.

Thud.

After crushing his face against the ground, the demon king tried to push away Sanguinius's arm that was still pressing against his skull.

"Amazing. You're clearly a mage, but your strength is enormous."

However, Sanguinius didn't release his grip.

He didn't even flinch at the superhuman force trying to break his arm.

He simply lifted the demon king by the skull, like Broly with Goku, before violently hammering him to the ground and dungeon wall.

Several notifications rang out in the group chat, but this wasn't the time.

He had a demon king to neutralize.

"I..nferno."

"Cursed L..ightning."

"Cur...sed Crystal Prison."

"Light of S...aber."

"Explosion!"

Despite his monstrous vitality and desperate attempts, the demon king failed to inflict real damage.

No spell could wound Sanguinius.

Yet he had used advanced spells, powerful enough to raze cities and hills.

But his opponent and he weren't entities from the same league.

One was a demon king from a universe where pure destructive power was measured on the scale of a city or small mountain...

And Sanguinius was the descendant of an Ogre.

A creature capable of confronting all the gods of The God of High School universe.

The dungeon itself had already collapsed under the violence of the massacre.

Finally, the demon king lost consciousness.

"...I had trouble not accidentally killing him."

Perhaps these words were too much for the mental health of the chat group members, as several notifications rang out again.
