Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 766: The big secret Part 4
With Mark and Sam now aboard the Behemoth, Hathaway was ready to find Uriel and kill him to protect his family's legacy. Truth be told, a small part of his mind still refused the idea of repaying his kindness with such intentions, but the danger Uriel posed not only to his legacy but also to the world took the decision out of his hands.
Sam seemed to be cooperative with the idea, but refused to share any information about Uriel such as his trait, strategies or anything that could prove to be helpful in a fight against him. He also refused to go out of his room or even take a peek out of the window afraid to lay his eyes on any cryptids that could make his nightmares even worse than they usually were.
The time Sam spent buried in salt was the closest thing to a vacation he got since the moment he became a hunter and, although his body was in pieces, his mind remained whole which gave him enough time to think about his past actions and his future too. freēnovelkiss.com
The ship soared the skies unchallenged by cryptids as its hulking size acted as a deterrent on its own, but the many gunners on their weapon posts still managed to take out a few of them at a distance due to their suitable traits and vast combat experience.
The Hathaway company acted as a well oiled machine that would turn whatever Mike Hathaway wished into a reality, no matter how strange it may seem.
"There seems to be a disturbance in the flux energy." Informed the captain of the ship.
"Sir, it's nothing out of the usual. The anomaly has always been there." One of the crew members rebuked.
"No, we're past that point already. This is something else." The captain yawned to which his subordinate replied with a yawn of his own. "Sound the alarm, the sleep disease is spreading!"
"We're doomed!" Cried a hunter as he stood up from his post in the bridge, only to drop on the ground asleep as blinking red lights were turned on in the entire ship.
Not long after the ship started slowly descending into the open sea, though a small patch of land started emerging and growing in size until the island of Atlantis was displayed in full.
Noticing the red lights, Sam's instinct kicked in and he went outside his room trying to make his way to the ship's exit finding several hunters asleep on his way to the cargo bay. The Behemoth was way bigger than the Pegasus, which was the only zeppelin Sam knew before, and it didn't take him long to become lost inside the ship while starting to feel the first symptoms of the sleep disease.
"This can't be the end, this is why I didn't want to mess with Atlantis." Sam growled, infuriated by the incompetence of the captain who unwittingly brought them into the maws of the beast.
"It's not, there's a few escape ships. Follow me." Hathaway showed up dragging an unconscious Mark like luggage. Sam's eyes sharpened at the sight of Mark and wondered how did someone like Hathaway managed to leave a heavenly rank hunter who also happened to be possessed by a horror level cryptid unconscious, but his question had to wait as exiting the ship was more urgent.
Hathaway led Sam to a smaller ship, though it wasn't small by anyone's standards as it span around half the size of the Pegasus. After getting inside the smaller ship, it dawned on Hathaway that he didn't know how to pilot it, but upon noticing this Sam moved in to the pilot seat and started checking the ship's systems.
"Fuel, energy, propellers, engine, weapons, water,..." Sam checked one by one the different systems in the ship in a panic, though his voice seemingly soothed Mike prompting him to yawn.
"Shit, I'll fall unconscious. Get us out of the island's range, now!" Hathaway shouted.
"I'm doing my best here. I know how to pilot, but I'm not familiar with this model." Sam snarled as the slow descent became faster, though contrary to what Sam expected the Behemoth didn't crash which should have given him the chance to turn on the escape ship, but for some reason he couldn't read beneath the switches and buttons anymore.
He could see everything in detail, but no matter how hard he focused on reading it was as though the characters were in another language, one he didn't understand.
"This can't be," Sam gasped when he realized he also couldn't read the ones he just read. He then looked around only to find out Hathaway and Mark were nowhere to be seen. The sensation of falling continued for a full minute while Sam pressed every button and flipped every switch with no effect whatsoever when he finally realized the truth. "I'm asleep, aren't I."
When no answer came, Sam opened the escape zeppelin's door and saw what could only be described as open space, though there was a weird shade of violet color in the background.
There were floating rivers of stone that slithered like snakes, brimming objects that seemed like distant stars only instead of round they were of varied shapes and sizes and then he saw what seemed to be circular clouds as though someone blew them directly out of a tobacco pipe.
"What the hell..." Sam's words echoed as though he was submerged in water. Then the dreamy landscape seemingly melted and shifted into a recollection of Sam's fondest memories.
He saw himself growing up, sitting by the table on a Sunday family lunch with his father. The first time he went to the beach, his first day of school, he saw himself growing up and even got to see again that time when he spied on the babysitter while she was changing herself.
He saw her perky breasts and slim figure beneath the door open just enough for Sam to see her fully and he also saw the mischievous smile on her face when she noticed him and still continued undressing pretending she didn't see him.
"I knew it! I knew she did it on purpose!" Sam exclaimed, but then shook his head. "that's not what happened, or rather, that's not how things happened. You know, you could have fooled anyone, but not me. I have an eidetic memory, which means I can remember all this without the need of a lame imitation of reality. Show yourself, creature!"
