Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 368: Recruitment
After what seemed like an endless make over session, Uriel walked out of Vivian’s apartment looking completely different. At first, Uriel doubted a simple haircut would make that much difference, but he couldn’t argue with the results. It wasn’t just a haircut though, because while Vivian gave Uriel a new haircut, Mary went shopping for new clothes and now Uriel looked like a whole different person.
The beach day turned out to be way more productive than he expected, not only for the make over. Marina came up with an idea so simple that Uriel couldn’t believe he didn’t think it first.
Joining the rangers had many advantages and the salary wasn’t that bad, it also came with the added bonus of giving much more freedom to their members than the army while holding even more authority within city walls.
It was perfect, except for one small detail.
For a college student or even a registered hunter, joining the rangers wasn’t difficult at all, but for somene without any credentials it was incredibly difficult because they needed to be recruited by a ranger.
Uriel wished he could count on Charlie, but since she ran away from the Pegasus without so much as a warning he knew he coudn’t trust her anymore. Fortunately for him, Marina was a well known hunter in the east district and she had many contacts among the rangers.

The next day, Uriel met with Marina and her friend at a coffee shop to try and convince him to recruit him in the rangers.
"This is the guy?" The man sitting in front of Marina looked up and down at Uriel with a displeased expression.
"Yeah, he’s really strong." Marina stated.
"I’m sorry, but he’s just a kid. Even if he’s an ascended like you said, he needs to gain some experience in hunting before joining the rangers." The man shook his head as he got ready to leave.
Uriel wasn’t ready to jump straight into the conversation as he was just waking up from a comfy night at a nearby hotel, but he knew it was his only chance.
"I’ve killed nine entities by myself so far."
"What a jokester! An ascended fighting entities by himself and not just one!? Why don’t you go to the Cryptid hunting agency then? Or are they too little for a big man like you?" The man laughed as though he heard the funniest joke.
Uriel wasn’t lying, but the man had no way of knowing that and without proof of his achievements, Uriel was put in a tough situation. Never did it cross Uriel’s mind that he would have to work hard to join the rangers, especially knowing how few of them were left.
"I... uhm... I’m currently a couple steps on the ascended level of the ladder!" He blurted out the first thing that came to mind.
"Oh, really? Wait a second," The man made a pause and placed a hand on his chin. "You’re Raider, are you not?"
"I am." Uriel replied, not knowing how did he figure it out and Marina’s eyes widened in shock.
When her husband was killed and she was forced to hide on the water reservoir, she faced many beast rank cryptids that were drawn towards until she became an ascended. At that moment she thought she was ready to take her life back, but the shapeshifting creature almost killed her.
The same night that happened she met a young man who was looking for her, but never did it cross her mind that that man could possibly be the renowned Raider.
At that moment, the man couldn’t hold his laughter anymore and he almost fell from his chair.
"I have to give it to you, you’re the funniest kid I’ve ever met and you must be really desperate to join the rangers if you’re willing to go to that extent of lying. I can’t promise I’ll get you admitted, but I’ll give you a chance, come with me."
Uriel thanked Marina for her help and proceeded to follow the man through the streets directly towards the gate and Uriel feared the might check his ID, but that wasn’t the case. Instead of exiting the city, the man led Uriel to the wall.
"Marina told me you’re an ascended, but I don’t care what kind of trait do you possess. That’s not important in the Rangers, all we care about is your aim. If you prove you can hit a target, you pass. What kind of weapon are you comfortable with?"
Uriel was dreading something like that. If that man put his strength, speed or even his trait he would have aced any test, but his accuraccy was still poor. For a second, he was tempted to say that he was comfortable with a sword, but close combat was much more appreciated in the army than the rangers.
"A revolver, but I have my own."
"Wait, you’re telling me you’ve been carrying a gun this whole time? Not even second class citizens are allowed to carry firearms inside the city! I won’t arrest you this time only because Marina recommended you, but you’ll have to turn in your gun."
"It’s not like that, this is my trait, see?" Uriel said as he made his revolver disappear and reappear on his hand.
"Oh, then I guess that’s fine," The man nodded in approval as he considered it to be a great trait for the rangers. Then, he walked at fifty meters distance and placed a tin can on the ledge of the wall. "Now show me what you’re made of. You can fire three times, so take your time. Remember, the first shot will tell you how to adjust your aim. Good luck."

Uriel gulped down his saliva as he grabbed the Magnum revolver with both hands, more out of habit than necessity since his strength allowed him to couner the recoil even with one hand. He breathed in, separated his legs and... missed all three shots.
