Chapter 46: Are you pretending to be hurt just to tease me?

Jian stood on the threshold, his blue eyes bloodshot. Before him, the scene exceeded his worst nightmares. His fiancée, Hue Qing, the woman he saw as a fragile and untouchable flower, had her robe half undone, slipping off her shoulders.

Guo Jian refused to hear anything. Explanations, logic or reason had no place in his mind clouded by rage. For him, the sight of Hue Qing undressed in front of this stranger was a death sentence.

"You... you monster..." growled Guo Jian, his qi starting to crack the floor under his boots.

As he was about to make an reckless move, a sharp crack tore through the space. The void itself seemed to give way, revealing a luminous rift from which a silhouette emerged.

Zhi Mei appeared with supernatural grace.

"BaiShe, I have not yet detected where he is hiding... Hm?" Zhi Mei stopped abruptly, her blue eyes sweeping the room in confusion. "What is going on here?"

She remained frozen for a moment, observing Hue Qing whose ample chest rose and fell with ragged breathing, then Guo Jian, whose face was twisted with fury.

"Well, Miss Mei, there has been a misunderstanding," replied BaiShe with a slight smile. "This valiant cultivator firmly believes that I was stealing his sweetheart from him."

Guo Jian, although destabilized by the sudden appearance of this woman whose Overlord power crushed his own senses, remained on the defensive.

"Who are you?" he roared, pointing his blade at Zhi Mei.

Mei cast a contemptuous look at the young man.

"You do not need to know. What a vulgar insect..." she replied in an icy voice.

With a simple wave of her hand, Zhi Mei released a wave of azure Qi. The force of the impact was such that Guo Jian was lifted off the ground. He flew across the room, crashing into the opposite wall before continuing his trajectory, smashing several partitions in a deafening crash. His body finally came to a stop in the rubble of the outer corridor.

Zhi Mei turned toward BaiShe, placing her hands on her hips. She observed him with a hint of weariness and annoyance. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"BaiShe, what have you caused this time?" she asked, ignoring poor Hue Qing who was trying to close her robe with trembling hands. "We came together for a serious mission, and here you are already seducing other people’s women. You are far too unfaithful."

BaiShe let out a small laugh with a look sparkling with mischief. He took a step toward her, reducing the personal space of the Templar.

"Why does it bother you so much, Miss Mei?" he asked, lowering his voice. "Could it be that you have, by chance, some sneaky thoughts toward me?"

Zhi Mei felt her cheeks color. She could not help but reach out to pinch his ear with surprising familiarity.

"Stop talking nonsense!" she retorted, although her gesture lacked real aggression.

From Hue Qing’s point of view, who was watching the scene. These two beings, whose power seemed to rival the gods, were bickering like a long-time couple of lovers. Embarrassment overwhelmed her. She wondered how Guo Jian could have believed that this man would be interested in her when he had such a beauty by his side. Zhi Mei was more powerful, more imposing, and of a nobility that made any other woman insignificant.

’It makes sense... a man like Young Master Xuan probably has a companion who matches him,’ thought Hue Qing as she lowered her eyes.

Feeling obliged to break the awkwardness, the young woman with dark green hair bowed deeply before Zhi Mei.

"Hum... this humble Hue Qing greets you. It is an honor to meet the companion of Young Master," she murmured in a timid voice.

Zhi Mei froze, releasing BaiShe’s ear. "What? You seem to misunderstand something, little girl!" she exclaimed, her face flushing even more.

BaiShe, for his part, did nothing to clear up the misunderstanding. He simply smiled, savoring the Saint’s reaction. Without waiting for a reply, Hue Qing withdrew hastily, fleeing the room with clumsiness born of her shyness. Zhi Mei remained standing there completely perplexed.

"So, Miss Xuan Mei, what did you want to tell me?" teased BaiShe by using the name of his own family to address her.

Zhi Mei turned her head toward him, her blue eyes crackling with dangerous energy.

"BaiShe... do you think this Holy Templar cannot kill the heir of an immortal family for tarnishing her reputation?"

"Ahaha, I apologize... Why be so violent? I was just thinking that the name Xuan suited you perfectly,"

With a movement of her palm, Zhi Mei sent a projection of her Qi. It was not an attack meant to hurt, just a strong enough impulse to make him step back. BaiShe, playing along, let himself be carried by the gust and fell to his knees, instantly adopting an expression of intense pain.

"Ah... I feel... Ahr..." he groaned, clutching his abdomen as if suffering from an internal injury.

Panic immediately invaded Zhi Mei’s face. She suddenly remembered the fragility of BaiShe’s dantian. She feared she had accidentally broken his precarious balance.

"Was I too rough!?" she cried as she rushed toward him.

She knelt beside him, supporting him by the shoulders, her hands trembling with guilt. "Are you okay? Answer me, BaiShe!"

At that moment, BaiShe’s smile widened in a predatory way. The pain disappeared from his features to give way to satisfaction.

"Hehehe, I got you," he murmured.

Before she could react, he firmly embraced her, pressing his body against hers. Zhi Mei froze, her breath caught, feeling the man’s warmth against her light armor.

"Bastard, let me go!" she shouted, while remaining strangely still in his arms.

It had been about a month since Zhi Mei and BaiShe had been traveling together in this lower kingdom. Over the days, the Templar’s rigidity had cracked. She had gotten used to his teasing and, in return, no longer hesitated to use her Overlord power to try to intimidate him, creating between them an unprecedented complicity that looked a lot like flirting.

Since her earliest childhood, Zhi Mei had been shaped by the Dao Temple. Her education had been of absolute severity, governing every aspect of her studies, her cultivation and her social behavior. As a Holy Templar, she was destined to be only a servant devoted body and soul to the future Dao Executor. She had never been allowed to explore her own desires or to approach a man in this way. For the first time in her life as a saint, Zhi Mei felt something that had nothing to do with piety and she did not like it...

"Hmph! This is the last time we go anywhere together, you pretend to be hurt just to tease me, aren’t you an odious being?" she exclaimed as she crossed her arms under her chest.
