Chapter 17: Don’t attack it! I don’t want to hurt my little sister in the heat of the moment!

Lin Feng fled through the steep paths, while he tried to distance his pursuers.

Behind him, about ten main disciples of the Supreme Dao Sect.

The hunt was no longer a simple matter of internal discipline, because the rumor was already spreading like wildfire : " The Devourer is back " .

It had been more than ten thousand years since this entity had set foot on the lands of the Realms, and the idea that Lin Feng could be its reincarnation froze the blood of the disciples.

Xuan BaiShe flew at the head of the group, his elegant silhouette contrasting with the brutality of the scene.

After having absorbed the essence of the Rakshasas and of Ming Bai, BaiShe had reached a level close to that of a Law Master, but he had not yet had the necessary time to stabilize this raw power...

Meanwhile, destiny, or perhaps the ironic will of the Dao, intervened in favor of the fugitive.

Lin Feng, exhausted and his body poisoned by prolonged exposure to Khaotic Qi, collapsed into a ravine hidden by tall grass.

It was there that he met Xuan Ling.

The young woman, with mid-length black hair and sparkling golden eyes, observed the scene with apparent mistrust.

Ling’er was another "Daughter of Luck", and as such the Dao had used her to help another son of heaven.

Lin Feng, panting, raised his eyes toward her, his vision troubled by the pain.

" Brother Lin Feng? What are you doing here ? "

" *Cough* Please... help me..." he murmured, his voice broken by the cough.

"I am being accused of a crime I did not commit. I did not kill Ming Bai. Someone else... a Khaotic power... sucked everything away."

Ling’er observed the marks of khaotic Qi on the blond disciple’s body.

She knew that Lin Feng was talented and that he had nothing to do with this Devourer. She decided quickly, not out of pure kindness, but to counter the plans of her adoptive brother whom she hated.

"Stay silent," she replied in a cold but protective voice. "Your condition is critical. The khaotic Qi is devouring your meridians from the inside."

"The khaotic Qi ? What is that ? "

" Stop moving, let me do it."

She took out spiritual rations and healing elixirs from her robe, handing them to Lin Feng to help him restore his physical state.

After a few hours of forced rest under her supervision, Lin Feng began to regain his strength, although his aura was still unstable.

However, their respite was short-lived. A sharp whistle tore through the air as spirit swords planted themselves in the ground all around them.

The main disciples, with a furious Huo Yan, appeared on the edges of the ravine.

BaiShe descended from the sky with grace, his gaze immediately fixing on his little sister. His expression changed instantly, shifting from neutrality to worry.

"Lin Feng," began BaiShe, his voice resonating with authority tinged with disappointment.

"I thought you were simply a man cornered by circumstances... but kidnapping my Ling’er ? That will not improve your situation. You are making your case worse with every second that passes."

Lin Feng stood up abruptly, trying to protect Ling’er behind him, although it was she who had saved him.

"This is not what you believe !" he exclaimed, his Golden Dragon Qi crackling weakly around his fists. "She helped me ! She knows I am innocent !"

Ling’er took a step forward, her golden eyes fixing BaiShe with intensity.

"BaiShe, stop this circus," she said coldly. "He did not kidnap me. I helped him of my own free will because the scene I saw back there does not match what you are saying."

BaiShe observed Ling’er.

" You saw ? Or he told you do not let yourself be fooled by his words, Ling’er ! "

’ No matter do not get involved in this BaiShe ! "

’How could I not take care of my dear little sister ?’ he thought .

’Every word she utters against me only strengthens my final harvest.’

He raised his hand, signaling the other cultivators to lower their weapons. The main disciples hesitated, surprised by this gesture of apparent clemency.

"Do not attack him," ordered BaiShe, his voice softening to simulate brotherly affection.

"I do not want to risk injuring my little sister in the heat of the action. Lin Feng may be a suspect, but Ling’er’s safety is my absolute priority."

Wei, sword in hand, tried to protest : "But Young Master Xuan, he is fleeing ! He is the Devourer !"

BaiShe turned his head toward him, a cold gaze filtering behind his monocle. "This is not an order, it is a request from me. Do you want to bear the responsibility if one of your attacks deviates and touches a member of the Xuan family ?"

Silence fell again.

Lin Feng, understanding that he would never be able to explain himself in front of these murderous looks and this staging, threw a last glance of gratitude at Ling’er.

He knew that his only chance was to flee and find his master to obtain his support.

Without waiting any longer, he seized Ling’er by the hand and used the rest of his energy to disappear into the thickness of the ancient forest.

The disciples remained motionless, watching their prey escape with bitterness. Huo Yan turned toward BaiShe, his jaw clenched.

"Young Master... are you really going to let him get away with it like this ? After what he did to Ming Bai ?"

BaiShe’s face suddenly became cold, his voice dropping an octave to reach an almost demonic tone.

"I held him in high esteem," he murmured, calmly adjusting his sleeves. "But attacking Ling’er ? Using her as a shield ? He should not have. This gesture seals his fate more surely than any proof."

...

After having used Ling’er to escape the situation, as he had more or less recovered from his injuries. She stopped her flight.

"Xuan Ling, you must leave now," said Lin Feng , while checking the circulation of his Qi in his meridians.

"If the sect disciples or the members of your family find you here with me, they will consider you as an accomplice. I cannot let you bear the burden of my problems. Thank you for everything you have done for me today, I swear on my dao heart that I will never forget it."

Ling’er shook her head. "You do not understand, Lin Feng... BaiShe is not who you think he is. If you stay alone, he will not leave you any chance."

"I know he is powerful, but I must clear my honor," replied Lin Feng while clenching his fists. "Go away, quickly !"

Nevertheless, before Ling’er could answer, a sharp whistle tore through the air.
