DRAGONBORN SORCERER-Chapter 23: Commencement Of Chaos
The gentle rays of the sun, and the fresh breeze of the morning felt soothing, yet the crowd gathered outside the Risers Clan appeared to be nervous. Around fifty adventurers— mostly above the stage-5, were ready, standing in division by their classes, and were prepared to be despatched at any moment.
Among them McVill stood with a group of eight fighters, including him, followed by five takers, five archers, fifteen mages and Rose; a Guardian— making a team of forty-four adventurers for the raid. However the numbers seemed insufficient to counter all the Flame Xions lurking at the Volcanic Mountains.
Leonardo stepped outside from the clan hall, accompanying him, there was an enigmatic figure dressed in casual hunting attire under a black rob. His golden eyes observed everyone’s impression. His bluish-white hair waved as the morning breeze passed him by, complementing his radiating smile.
"Adventurers!" Leonardo called out, "This is Sir Skyler. He’ll join you on today’s raid."
"Umm, Clan leader?" One of the mages asked hesitantly, pointing his finger at Skyler, "What class is he? Does he have the necessary strength to keep up with us?"
"Shut up!" Rose snapped with a sharp tone, "You don’t need to question his abilities. He’s powerful enough to take on all of us at once."
"Come on, Rose." Skyler said, feeling flattered by her complement, "That’s not rue at all. I’m strong sure, but even I have my limits."
"Sir Skyler." She replied with a conviction, "I’m certain that—"
"Rose!" Leonardo prevented her, "Hold yourself. And as for the rest of you, Sir Skyler is indeed strong, and you don’t need to ask about his stage or anything. He’s a mage that’s all— and of exceptional caliber."
The group started murmuring among themselves.
"Clan leader is addressing him as ’Sir’?" a person in the rear whispered, "Then he must be some sort of prodigy."
"I’ve never seen Rose to acknowledge someone this much." A woman dressed in mage outfit, murmured, "It only means he must be incredibly strong— stronger than her perhaps?’
And many more had the same kind of question in mind, yet never dared to ask further on the matter. Their pushy guts could cause them unwanted scolding— what they knew from their past experiences.
"Here’s the plan for your raid." Leonardo continued, ignoring their noises, "Rose will take lead of this raid with Sir Skyler as her support. Follow their commands, understood?"
"Yes sir!" They responded in unison, and raised their hands, signifying their readiness as the raid was about to commence.
However, before they could start, they got interrupted by a small group of adventurers who burst into the scene. Their face was enveloped with fear. Their eyes were dithering in terror. Their throat dried up as the breathed heavily.
It was Joseph and his party. They weren’t part of the elite troops. However their sudden arrival made an impact— specially their frightened appearance.
"Joseph?" Leonardo asked, "What’re you guys doing in here? Weren’t you guys on a quest early this morning?"
"Leader!" Joseph stammered, dropping to his knees, "It’s bad— really bad."
"What happened?"
"They’re coming." Joseph gasped, "Countless numbers of golem made out of lava— marching straight towards our nation! "
"What?" The crowd exclaimed in shock while Skyler remain slightly curious.
’What’s that, What’s that?’ He thought, looking at the situation, ’Is it another coincidence for me to take advantage of?’
************
Apparently, while the clan was planning to make a move, the Flame Xions took the opportunity and played their cards. Instead of waiting to get attacked by the clan, they sent their forces to buy them some more time for what they had been conducting rituals.
Leading them to set a massive numbers of Lava Golems in motion for the Nation of Rosevill, melting everything on their ways. Joseph and his party who were headed for a minor quest on the barren lands, witnessed that chaos.
They immediately called of their quest and returned to inform the clan about the dire situation.
"It wasn’t only the Lava Golems that we witnessed." He stammered, trembling in fear, "A huge group of Scorching Wyverns are also on their way. They seemed to be carrying some individuals on their back as well."
"The Flame Xions finally played their games, eh." Leonardo said, looking unimaginably worried, "Elite force, forget the raid for now. You’ll engage in battle. Prevent the golems as much as possible. As for Joseph, gather all the remaining adventurers and help the citizen to evacuate to the royal capital."
"On it, sir." Joseph trembled yet gather enough courage to complete the task they got. The others braced themselves, preparing for facing the coming havoc.
A wave of mass panic swept through the city as adventurers began the evacuation. The tranquil morning gave way to chaos with the sudden rush of people.
Citizens ran frantically. Children sobbed as they were separated from their parents in the chaos. Adventurers moved swiftly, guiding the panicked masses and offering what little reassurance they could. They worked tirelessly to reunite families while ushering everyone toward safety.
Meanwhile, the elite troops, originally tasked with raiding the Volcanic Mountains, had repositioned themselves outside the city’s perimeter. They stood vigilant as they braced themselves for the impending threat and prepared to intercept it before it could reach the nation.
Though the lava golems were yet to appear on the horizon, the drastic change in temperature confirmed the approaching threat.
***************
The menacing Lava Golems, nearly ten feet tall and made out of molten rocks, were marching slowly yet effectively. Anything came on their ways whether it was a living being or non-living— everything melted away like ice melting into water, unleashing vapor from them.
Accompanying them, about hundreds of Scorching Wyverns were flying, maintaining same pace as the golems. They were larger than the typical Sand Wyverns. Their scales were tougher and made of condensed crimson blaze. Their wings were burning in flames. Their eyes remained the same— sharp and agile.
The two wyvern which were at the leading position, seemed different. Instead of burning into crimson flames like the others, they were burning in blue, hotter than the rest of them. Only they carried two individual.
The individual riding on the back of the blue Scorching Wyvern, were clad in crimson and black robs with long and loose-fitting sleeves. They had their hoods on. And their faces were covered with a mask similar to a face of wyvern— or maybe to a dragon. However their eyes were visible.
One of them was a man, another was a woman with same age as him. They both had a draconic symbol curved on their mask— a crimson crest, representing the dragon of flames as they carried the name Flame Sorcerers or ’Flame Xions’.
"Let’s start the party, Shall we?" The man chuckled behind the mask, standing on the back of the leading Wyvern.
"Yes!" The woman chuckled as well, looking crazily at her companion.
