Chapter 166: The Power of Words

"Why is Azul even interested in that princess? This wasn’t in our original objectives," one of the black-robed figures on the upper floor of the hall asked while playing with his dagger.

"That’s why you’re still a minion, Jake, even after all these years serving in the Communion. You’re really an idiot," another black-robed guy beside him said.

"Say that again and this dagger will be stuck in your throat, Desen," Jake threatened.

Desen looked at Jake and shook his head. "Have you ever heard of the Spoken? A class that can change the tide of war with a single word, win the hearts of the masses with a single praise, and convince wrongdoers with a single verdict. It’s a very rare class, one that every nation dreams to possess. The number of people with that class can be counted on one hand. And the princess is one of them."

Jake was amazed by Desen’s explanation. "Is that class really that great? It sounds like it’s been exaggerated."

Desen pointed his index finger toward the center of the hall. "Then consider yourself lucky as you’re about to see how that class works right in front of your eyes."

Back on the ground below, Reika was standing in front of the two remaining kaosliths, with Azul beside her.

"Get ready, Princess. I can’t wait to see what you’re capable of," Azul said as he clicked his fingers.

Suddenly, from one corner of the hall, ten yellow arrays formed, and from them, skeleton-like humanoid monsters materialized. Each of them stood in a row, like soldiers waiting for orders.

"Now, Princess. Use your ’words,’ please," Azul ordered.

Reika clenched her hands tightly as she fell into a dilemma. She knew all too well what her power was capable of. Deep in her heart, she still hoped someone would come to save her. She could imagine her brothers riding toward her on horseback.

If she used her power, she feared it might hurt her brothers and everyone trying to rescue her. But at the same time, if she refused... she couldn’t imagine what Azul would do to her.

"What are you waiting for, Princess? Please, unleash your ’words.’ Or do you need... help?" A purplish aura emanated from Azul’s hand, and a menacing pressure spread from his body, warning Reika that he would do exactly as he threatened, use force, or she dies.

Reika slowly walked toward the skeletons until she was only a few steps away. The skeletons stared at her but did not attack.

Reika inhaled deeply and closed her eyes.

’Please forgive me, brothers!’

"Courage in the heart...

Steel in the soul...

We march and victory follows..."

She stopped chanting for a second, before she opened her eyes.

"Voice of Valor!"

As soon as she finished chanting, the skeleton army was bathed in a green aura. Then, each of them began to transform. Their bodies grew larger, their bones thickening and protruding into new shapes. Some had their heads and torsos encased in heavy bone plates like helmets and armor. Some had their bone swords fused into their arms, and others grew tail-like spikes, standing on all fours as their forms shifted into monstrous, combat-ready shapes. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

All the members of the Communion at the sides were stupefied by the changes. None of them expected the transformation to be this radical.

Reika was also shocked. Before this, she had only tested her Spoken abilities on humans, her brothers specifically. She had never used it on monsters. Seeing the atrocities in front of her, guilt washed over her.

"What... have I done...?" she mumbled under her breath, before her legs weakened and she collapsed to the floor. Her head rested on her arm as her vision blurred. The ’words’ consumed a lot of mana, and she had very little to begin with.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

She heard Azul clapping. He was genuinely amazed by the transformation.

"So fascinating! Unbelievable! This is totally beyond anything I imagined!" he continued clapping.

Reika glanced at him. "Monster..." That was the last word she managed before everything went dark.

"Someone, pick the princess up and bring her back to the room. She needs to rest before I need her to use it again," Azul ordered.

One of the Communion members immediately leapt forward, grabbed Reika, and vanished.

Azul glanced at the evolved skeletons in front of him. He was anxiously excited. "Looks like we have a new plaything now. After all of this, I’ll dissect that woman. Hahaha...."

His laugh echoed throughout the hall.

---

Back at the base camp on the edge of Daisy Town, at the entrance of the main tent, me, Bob, and Linus were walking out.

We had decided what we needed to do. Fifteen minutes ago, a scout arrived and reported seeing giants carrying a crystal structure which believed to be a kaoslith, marching toward the mayor’s mansion. Therefore, we decided we would rally toward that mansion and finish everything once and for all.

Suddenly, someone placed a hand on my shoulder. I turned and saw Guildmaster Mirinda looking at me. Beltimore stood beside her.

"Yes, Guildmaster?" I asked.

"Remember what I told you before about your...special class. Do not use it. Especially now. It will cause unnecessary havoc if someone finds out about it, whether they are allies, or worse, enemies." She spoke seriously.

I tried to decipher what she meant by special class. Then I recalled it. She must talked about Timeweaver class. And indeed, she had warned me before. I still didn’t understand why she was so adamant about this.

"Don’t worry, Guildmaster. I have no plan to use it either." I assured her. Timeweaver is the last class I want to use in any situation. Even though it feels like a cheat code, ability to control time, I don’t intend to rely on it. First, because of what Mirinda said. And second, it’s an SR class, and every skill consumes so much MP that it’s just not efficient.

"Good. We move in one hour. Go to the supply tents and restock everything you need," Mirinda said before walking away. Beltimore followed her, giving us a brief look before leaving as well.

"I’m going to rest for a while. See you later. Don’t move without me," Linus said, heading toward the barracks.

Now it was just me and Bob.

"Bob..."

"Hmmm?" Bob looked at me.

"I think it’s time for us to buy new packs."
