Chapter 159: Scared

For the past 30 minutes, our group had been walking toward the Kaoslith’s direction, following Cain.

It seemed we were really heading the right way, as the density of monsters was becoming higher and higher.

"Everyone alright? Anyone want to take a minute to rest?" William asked as he looked over all the party members.

"Just keep going. I’m already bored of facing all these monsters. I want to go back already," Blackburn sneered. He had been tanking non-stop with William for the past half hour. The monsters’ attacks were becoming more relentless, making it very difficult for the frontliners.

Luckily, with the addition of me, Bob, and Linus, killing the monsters became easier, thanks to the stat boosts.

Speaking of stat boosts, we also obtained more classes from the party members here. The new classes we gained are:

Blackburn: Defender (Common)

Mark: Duelist (Common)

Lee: Blader (Common)

Selene: Brawler (Common)

Cain: Foot Soldier (Common)

Lunar: Veil Mage (Rare)

The other party members all had the same classes as William and the rest. All of the new classes were common except Lunar’s.

"Veil Mage? What can it even do?" Bob asked while checking all the classes and boosts we obtained as we walked at the rear of the group.

Lunar heard our conversation from the middle of the formation. She glanced back, seeing us talking among ourselves.

’Are they talking about me?’ she wondered. She was sure she heard us mention "Veil Mage."

’No... I must have heard wrong. No one should ever know about my class. I’ve never told anyone besides the Guildmaster. And she promised not to tell anyone.’ Lunar clasped her hands together, trying to calm herself.

"Are you okay, Lunar?" Selene noticed she looked a bit anxious.

"Ah... I-I’m okay, Sis Selene." Lunar replied with a soft smile.

"Alan, looks like we still have 17,000 BP. Why don’t we try purchasing new cards? There’s a promotion going on. Look! It even has 75% discount!" Bob was excited. It had been a few days since we last bought packs, and he seemed addicted to the thrill of pulling rare cards.

"We’d have more BP if you didn’t waste it on those arena monster fights. And look carefully, even with a 75% discount, that card still costs ten thousand BP." I lectured him. Bob always had a weakness for big discounts, even when they were just scams disguised as "deals" if you actually thought about it.

"Tch! Why do we even have to share this system? It’s annoying partnering with a cheapskate like you."

"Say that again! If it weren’t for me, you would’ve blown all our BP on packs and cards we don’t even need yet. I’m limiting our BP usage because we need to prepare for the future. Maybe soon we’ll face a powerful enemy that forces us to pull from higher-tier packs. When that day comes, I’ll have no problem using every last BP." I snapped back at him.

This man is always short-sighted when it comes to spending. I need to warn Yui before this gets serious and they actually end up married. Ahh, poor Yui. I can already picture her working herself to the bone while Bob lounges at home. I need to stop this disaster before it starts.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. But man, fighting all these monsters without getting EXP, BP, or loot is really demotivating." Bob sighed.

"Well, there’s nothing we can do about that." I shrugged my shoulders.

Suddenly, everyone halted. The reason was right in front of us, at the top of a tall building, we saw it.

"Is that... Kaoslith?" Maya asked. It was her first time seeing one, just like most of the others, except William and Beltimore.

"Yes. No mistake about it." I nodded, eyes locked on the thing responsible for all this suffering.

But the Kaoslith wasn’t alone. Through the windows, movement could be seen on every floor. Hundreds, maybe thousands of monsters were roaming inside the building.

"Do we really have to take the stairs to get up there? I swear I saw something staring at me from that window." Bob muttered. His voice carried a bit of fear.

"Why? Scared, huh? An S-rank pissing his pants just because a monster looked at him. Hahaha!" Lee laughed, never missing a chance to mock us.

Bob’s face turned red with anger, ready to explode any second.

"Quiet! This is no time for squabbling." Beltimore cut in, his gaze fixed upward. "It seems the enemy intentionally placed the Kaoslith on top of this tall building. We have no choice but to go inside and climb up."

Everyone started to tense up. Looked like battle was unavoidable, and an unfair one at that. We all prepared our gear. Me and Bob summoned our pets.

"Mina-chan, heal us like usual, okay? But remember, don’t heal those two guys. Let them suffer." Bob whispered to Mina while pointing at Mark and Lee, his eyes full of menace.

"Oiii, what are you doing? They’re still our guild members." I glared at him. He had been teaching Mina too many bad things, and I was starting to worry she’d turn into a delinquent fairy.

"Alan, can I ride Plump this time?" Linus suddenly asked while I was petting Plump.

This time? What do you mean this time? If I recall correctly, you’ve been riding Plump ever since we got here. Even I, his own master, barely get to ride him.

But of course, I can’t say that to his face.

"S-sure. He looks very happy with you." I forced a smile.

"Thanks." Linus immediately climbed onto Plump. Plump reacted when he felt someone on his back, but after seeing who it was, he just continued plucking at the ground. Looked like he accepted Linus riding him. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Damn it. I’m really jealous.

After several minutes of gearing up, we were finally ready. Beltimore stood in front, looking at all of us.

"This fight won’t be like anything you’ve faced before. It will be very dangerous. That’s why teamwork is important. Look at your members, protect their backs. I hope all of us walk out of that building without a single casualty. Are you all ready?" Beltimore asked.

"Yes!" we shouted in unison.

Beltimore nodded, then led the group forward, entering the monster zone.
