Don't Fall For Me, CEO-Chapter 1118: Hair Turned White Overnight
That day, July Quinn stayed at Richard Donovan’s place for a long time, but he never came out of his room.
When evening came and she could no longer sit still, she pushed the door open and found Richard still sitting by the bedside, staring blankly ahead.
The hair that was once dark and shiny, with only a few strands of silver, had suddenly turned all gray.
"Dad!"
July Quinn could hardly believe that Richard’s hair had turned white in just one afternoon.
Her panicked voice finally brought focus back to Richard’s eyes.
But in those eyes, there were still tears glistening.
"July, Dad really misses her, as if it’s been just one day over twenty years."
"Dad thought everything he’s been doing could make up for what he owes her from the past, that it could give him a chance for redemption, and maybe even give you a complete family... but she won’t even meet me, not in this life."
"But Dad doesn’t blame her, I have no right to blame her, nor can I. She must have suffered a lot of grievances by herself, to the extent that she doesn’t even want to see me."
"I just don’t know how to face you now, knowing you yearn so much for a complete family, but Dad can’t give that to you..."
By the end of his words, Richard’s voice turned into a sob.
Tears silently fell.
July Quinn hadn’t expected Richard to be so upset, not just because he couldn’t get Laura Quinn’s forgiveness but also because he couldn’t give her a family.
The feeling of being so valued by family was something July had never experienced, warming her heart, but also causing it to ache.
She ached for Richard, whose hair turned white so suddenly, and for his helplessness and despair.
She felt even more for him and her mother, for the things they went through, causing them to love but not stay together, living the rest of their lives in regret and guilt.
"Dad, even if there isn’t a complete family, it’s okay, but I don’t want to live another day without a dad."
July Quinn sat down beside Richard, resting her head on his shoulder.
His shoulders weren’t as broad and strong as Kyle Keaton’s, yet they strangely made her feel relaxed and at ease.
Leaning on such shoulders, July’s voice became hoarse, with a bit of nasal tone.
"When I’m wronged, there’s no place to voice it, no one to stand up for me; facing everything alone, I’m forced to be all-capable, so tired."
Richard took July’s hand, placing it in his palm: "I know, Dad will definitely not let you live such a hard life anymore..."
No child grows this close to him; it was the first time he felt such closeness with her.
Especially when hearing her talk about being wronged with no one to turn to or stand up for her, Richard felt a deep ache.
But he also knew that mentioning these past grievances was just her way to encourage him to pull himself together, not to lose hope.
Really, if it weren’t for July, he felt like living was pointless today.
The person he loved the most refused to forgive him, didn’t even want to meet.
He couldn’t provide his daughter with a complete family, didn’t know how to face her.
He had really considered taking his life just now.
He only refrained because he knew July was still outside the door; he didn’t want to leave her with a deep shadow.
But now, July said she didn’t want to live another day without a dad...
That pierced right through his heart.
What wrong did the child do?
She’s already weathered so many storms, and now finally found her parents, barely feeling able to lay down her burdens, could he give her another hopeless blow at this time?
No, he couldn’t.
So, even if he couldn’t keep on living, he must live for his daughter.
He held his daughter’s hand tightly, making a solemn promise once again: "I won’t, Dad definitely won’t let you be alone anymore. No matter what you encounter in the future, Dad will always be your safe harbor."
