Doctor and His Glamorous Sister-in-Law-Chapter 707 - 710: Meeting
As soon as he spoke, shocked expressions appeared on the faces of Yang Mei and Feng Chunling.
Neither of them had ever dreamed that Liu Ergou wouldn’t take their side.
Legally speaking, she and Yang Mei were the rightful heirs. What did this have to do with anyone else? Even if they were relatives, it shouldn’t matter!
In contrast to their reaction, the other five completely changed their attitude toward Liu Ergou, showering him with praise.
"See? This is why they say your girlfriend’s a cop! You’re a reasonable young man, spot on!"
"Exactly! An educated person is just different. You know what’s right!"
"Alright, since you agree with us, you can just leave. We’ll handle the rest!"
Hearing them, Liu Ergou couldn’t help but smirk mockingly.
"What’s the rush?" he asked. "I’m not saying you can’t take anything, but can I say a few words before you start dividing things up?"
Since what Liu Ergou had just said resonated with them, they nodded in agreement.
Liu Ergou cleared his throat and began, "I have no objections to you dividing the property."
"However, I feel it’s necessary to give you a quick lesson. Generally speaking, the deceased’s wife and children have priority inheritance rights." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"That means none of you have any right whatsoever to inherit these assets. You’d only be eligible if, say, Feng Chunling and Yang Mei were also dead!"
At these words, the five, who had been cheerful just a moment ago, looked as if they’d been slapped. They started cursing at Liu Ergou furiously.
"You’re full of shit! Who the hell are you to say there’s a priority right of inheritance?"
"Yeah, you think you’re hot stuff just because your girlfriend’s a cop? Pfft!"
"We’re taking the money and the house today! What are you going to do about it? Arrest us if you’re so tough!"
Watching the five angry people, Liu Ergou remained completely unfazed. "This is the first time in my life I’ve seen anyone actually eager to go to prison," he continued calmly. "It’s quite an eye-opener."
He then took out his phone. "Go on," he said to the five, "repeat what you just said. You think you’re so tough, don’t you? Say it again. Don’t be scared."
As soon as he said that, all five started talking over each other at once.
Liu Ergou recorded for about a minute before putting his phone away.
Seeing this, the young man among them sneered, "So what if you recorded us? We’re not afraid of you. It’s just a video. What can you do? I don’t believe a single video can send us all to prison!"
"If that were true, would there be any justice left in the world? Is there no law?!"
Seeing how shameless they were, Liu Ergou couldn’t help but sigh.
He couldn’t understand what gave them the audacity to be so brazen. Who gave them this courage?
After sighing, Liu Ergou said, "I really don’t get where you find your courage. Forget it. I might as well see this through and give you one last lesson."
"There’s a crime called illegal appropriation of property. If the amount is substantial and the act is particularly egregious, it carries a sentence of three to five years in prison."
"And just a little reminder, the video I just recorded is evidence. The kind of evidence that contains your own confessions."
"Once a lawyer gets involved, I’m afraid three to five years will be the minimum. If things go badly, it could easily be five to ten years."
Having finished, Liu Ergou looked at the five of them with an expression of pity.
Hearing his words, the five people were dumbfounded. They had only come to seize an inheritance. How had things suddenly escalated to prison time? And for five to ten years, no less.
How is this possible?
Yang Mei’s uncle mustered his courage and spat, "Bah! You really think you’re the judge, that whatever you say goes? Why don’t you claim we’ll get life imprisonment while you’re at it? That’s rich. We’re taking this stuff today, and I’d like to see you try and stop us!"
Seeing the uncle’s incredulous expression, Liu Ergou simply shook his head and said nothing more. Instead, he took out his phone and made a call to Han Jiajia.
Yang Mei’s aunt saw this and assumed he was calling for backup. "So, your lies didn’t work, and now you’re calling in your goons, is that it?" she shouted. "Let me tell you, we’re not scared! I’d like to see if you have more people or if we do!"
Without looking up, Liu Ergou said, "Threatening someone... good, that’s another charge. I’d love to see just how tough you all are. Let’s see if you can get that sentence extended to life."
His words left the five of them speechless. Although they didn’t believe him, a doubt lingered. What if... what if he was telling the truth? If that happened, it would be too late for regrets.
Liu Ergou couldn’t help but laugh inwardly at the five of them.
Cowardly and greedy. They’re truly incorrigible. Getting life imprisonment was impossible. Extending the sentence from three-to-five years to five-to-ten was also impossible; he had only said it to scare them. Of course, the three-to-five-year sentence was real. He wasn’t lying about that.
Just then, the call connected, and Han Jiajia’s voice came from the phone. "Hello, Er Gou, what’s up? I’m at work right now."
Liu Ergou got straight to the point. "Jia Jia, there’s a bit of a situation here. Some people don’t quite understand the law, so I was hoping you could educate them a bit."
He then quickly explained the situation to her before turning the phone around to face the other five. In the next second, they saw Han Jiajia on the screen, wearing a police uniform.
When they saw her, they were stunned. They had assumed Liu Ergou was just bluffing about his girlfriend being a cop, but they never expected it to be true.
But some people refuse to give up until they’ve hit a dead end. The young man summoned his courage to challenge her. "A cop? I bet you’re just someone Liu Ergou paid to pretend! So, how much is he paying you per day?"
Han Jiajia didn’t say a word. Instead, she flipped her camera around to show her surroundings. Then, in a chilly tone, she said, "What nonsense are you spouting? I’m in a meeting right now!"
