Chapter 161: 161. Catastrophe!

"Since you recognize me, why don’t you scram?"

Wu Miaomiao chewed her gum while rolling her eyes at Commander Jiang.

"Young Master, I even returned the speakers and steel pipe! I won’t dare to mess around again!" Turning her head, she scurried over to Lin Fan’s side and, without hesitation, clung tightly to his arm, swaying back and forth coquettishly. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

My goodness! What in the world is happening now?

The crowd, who had been secretly intimidated by Wu Miaomiao’s reputation, could only stare, dumbfounded. Mr. Han Sr. and his companions were even more shocked, gaping at each other.

The woman who could scare Commander Jiang into submission must have a significant background. But why is she acting as meek as a kitten in front of Lin Fan?

Facing the dozens of bewildered and confused gazes, Commander Jiang’s face burned with embarrassment, his mind reeling with shock and doubt.

Years ago, before he had made a name for himself, he was still back in his hometown in the North. He had been invited to attend the fiftieth birthday of the Northern Mining King. There, he personally witnessed this stunning female assassin waltz through the guards as if they were nothing and take the Mining King’s life right at the banquet! The incident had shaken Commander Jiang to his core, leading to months of nightmares. Recalling it now still sent a shiver of fear down his spine. He was terrified that in the next second, her ten slender, black-manicured nails would become sharp as blades and slice open his throat!

The looks from the crowd were starting to get weird. Behind him, Yuan Youwei and Mrs. Xue both snorted lightly in unison. Lin Fan tensed. "Ahem, be serious. We’re in the middle of a fight," he said, putting on a stern expression and shooting Wu Miaomiao a glare before quickly pulling his arm away.

This subordinate of mine is getting bolder and bolder. I have to set some rules for her, and soon. She absolutely cannot get this close to me in public again!

"Young Master, I’m sorry for being late. I was delayed for a bit returning the steel pipe to the construction site," Wu Miaomiao mumbled unhappily, then turned to face Commander Jiang, whose forehead was drenched in cold sweat.

Her cheerful smile vanished, replaced by an icy mask.

"My Young Master is angry. The consequences will be severe."

"No, no, no, a misunderstanding! This is all a huge misunderstanding! If I had known Mr. Lin was Miss Ye Ying’s Young Master, why would I have dared to come and muddy the waters?" Commander Jiang’s cheek twitched, and his legs trembled with fear. He could threaten Lin Fan with his official status, but that tactic was useless against Wu Miaomiao. On the contrary, if he angered her, she was liable to go on a killing spree and vanish without a trace. He and his dozens of subordinates would have died for nothing.

"Mr. Lin, someone from above already called. We were told to remain neutral," Commander Jiang explained in a low voice, forcing a stiff smile as he approached Lin Fan.

"Alright. In that case, you stay neutral, and we’ll settle this on our own." Lin Fan was silent for a moment before nodding, accepting the other man’s submission.

"Thank you, thank you for your understanding, Mr. Lin! We were presumptuous this time. I will definitely come to offer a formal apology another day!"

Hearing this, Commander Jiang secretly sighed in relief, wiping the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve.

Thank goodness Wu Miaomiao arrived when she did. Otherwise, I would have brought a catastrophe upon myself! For one of the top ten assassins in the Xia Country to call him her master, what kind of unimaginably terrifying background must Lin Fan possess?

A violent shudder went through Commander Jiang’s heart, and he was filled with so much regret he wanted to slap himself. While helping the Han family would have resulted in a handsome reward, no amount of money was worth more than his life!

"There’s no need for another day. Have your men clean this place up now, and we’ll consider it amends," Lin Fan said dispassionately, gesturing at the wreckage on the ground just as Commander Jiang was about to signal a retreat.

"Uh... yes, yes, of course! That’s what we should do!" Commander Jiang was taken aback for a second but then steeled himself and nodded repeatedly. "All units, clean up the scene immediately! Make sure not a single spot is missed!"

"Sir, yes, sir!"

The bewildered City Defense Army warriors looked at one another before shouting their affirmation out of sheer reflex. They sheathed their weapons, borrowed hoses and brooms from the Yuan family’s servants, and began to clean up with surprising speed. Bodies were quickly carried away, and the bloodstains on the ground were washed clean. They even used air fresheners to eliminate the thick, coppery smell of blood until not a trace of the offensive odor remained.

"Commander Jiang, what are you doing? Do you dare to disregard the survival of our Han family?" Mr. Han Sr., who had been standing frozen for some time, finally snapped back to his senses. Both shocked and enraged, he stomped over to Commander Jiang and growled his question.

Yuan Xiangjun, Han Yiming, and Yuan Lang also wore grim expressions, an inexplicable sense of impending doom creeping into their hearts.

"Hmph! The order from above was to remain neutral. Why the hell should I clean up the Han family’s mess?" Commander Jiang’s face flushed, and he turned away with a cold snort. Weren’t you just trying to use my authority to provoke Lin Fan into attacking me? Go on, keep acting so high and mighty, you bastards! Without anyone backing you, you’re nothing in front of him! Ye Ying alone could probably slaughter the entire Han family and wipe you from the face of the earth!

"Commander Jiang, the Han family is willing to offer five billion!" Seeing Commander Jiang’s unwillingness to engage, Mr. Han Sr.’s expression flickered. He had no choice but to swallow his anger and plead in a lower voice.

"What do you think you’re doing? I am the Commander of the Haicheng City Defense Army! Han Tianba, is this how you test an official? This is blatant bribery!" Commander Jiang’s expression shifted, and he pointed at Mr. Han Sr., berating him.

"Ten billion! Help my Han family eliminate Lin Fan and the Yuan family!" Mr. Han Sr. gritted his teeth, suppressing his fury as he raised the offer.

"Get lost! I’m here to clean the scene. Stop trying to pull a fast one!" Commander Jiang shuddered, a flicker of temptation in his eyes. But under Lin Fan’s cold, unwavering gaze, he didn’t dare show the slightest hint of it.

"Mr. Lin, how does it look? Are you satisfied?" Commander Jiang asked eagerly, squeezing out another stiff smile as the cleanup neared completion.

"Hmm, it’s barely passable. You can all go now," Lin Fan said after a casual glance around.

"Good, good! Thank you for your magnanimity, Mr. Lin! We’ll leave immediately!" As if granted a pardon, Commander Jiang felt the heart that had been lodged in his throat finally drop back into his stomach. "All units, fall out! Return to camp!" he bellowed, turning to his men.

With that, he and his troops, each wearing a complex expression, drove away at top speed.

"Trash! A bunch of cowards! Scared witless by Lin Fan and willingly acting as his janitors!" Yuan Xiangjun spat as the roar of the pickup trucks faded, leaving her, Mr. Han Sr., and the others standing rigidly, trembling with anxiety. She withdrew her gaze, about to say more.

SLAP!

Mr. Han Sr. suddenly raised his hand and struck her across the face, sending her sprawling to the ground.

"Mr. Lin, Old Yuan, this was all her! This vile woman instigated everything!" Mr. Han Sr.’s expression went through several changes before settling on a smile that was uglier than a grimace. He desperately explained himself to Lin Fan and Mr. Yuan Sr. "I must have been out of my mind to believe her insidious lies! I’m washing my hands of this. Do what you will with her, Yuan family! And them," he added, pointing a righteous finger at the trembling Yuan Lang and his group, "they deserve to be kicked out of the Yuan family too! They’re all goddamn bastards!"

Damn it! The old bastard is trying to sacrifice a pawn to save the king!

Stunned and furious, Yuan Xiangjun clutched the five fiery red fingerprints on her cheek. The sudden blow was too much to bear, and she lowered her head and began to sob uncontrollably.

"Cry! Go on and cry, you bitch! I’m divorcing you, right now!" Han Yiming roared, snapping to his senses. His eyes narrowed with vicious intent as he kicked Yuan Xiangjun hard in the stomach and pointed at her head, cursing.

"Mr. Han Sr.! Lin Fan! This has nothing to do with us! It was Yuan Xiangjun and that bitch Ah Lu who incited us!"

So terrified their legs went weak, Yuan Lang, Seventh Uncle, and Wu Yanli dropped straight to their knees.

THUD! THUD!

They began kowtowing desperately, their faces etched with panic, completely terrified.

"Big Sister, is this the outcome you wanted? Do you see now? You were just a pawn in their game, one they could discard at any moment," Mr. Yuan Sr. said with a long sigh, closing his eyes.

With tears welling in her own eyes, Yuan Youwei stepped forward, her face full of grief and indignation as she looked down at Yuan Xiangjun.

"No! I won’t accept this! What right do you have to treat me this way? What’s so wrong with fighting for what I deserve?" Yuan Xiangjun howled, pounding her fists against the ground.

"You’re not wrong," a voice said. Lin Fan stepped forward, slowly shaking his head at her. "Your only mistake was turning an internal conflict into a case of letting the wolf in the door."

A traitor should never be forgiven. This vicious woman was even more ruthless and despicable than Su Mengqing. To be abandoned by everyone she betrayed... she deserves this fate.

"Mr. Lin, now that the misunderstanding is cleared up, the culprit has been handed over, and we’ve apologized... what do you say...?" Mr. Han Sr. asked with a sheepish smile, all his earlier arrogance gone. He was even slightly stooped, adopting a subservient posture before Lin Fan.

"Misunderstanding? What misunderstanding?" Lin Fan’s lips curled into a deep sneer. His eyes grew colder, and he looked at them as if they were already dead. "Does the Han family think you can start a fight whenever you feel like it, then sue for peace the moment it’s convenient for you?" He swept his gaze over the pale faces of Han Yiming and the others, shaking his head. "If an apology was enough, what would be the point of revenge? Do you think my words are just hot air?"

"Wang Meng! Wu Miaomiao!" Lin Fan roared, turning his back on Mr. Han Sr., whose pupils had shrunk to pinpricks.

"Tonight, I want you to take your men and flatten the Han family and Black Wind Hall in the provincial capital!"

What? Take men to flatten the Han family and Black Wind Hall overnight? This was a catastrophe. An absolute, total catastrophe!

"Lin Fan, you... you dare?!" Mr. Han Sr. finally erupted. He clutched his chest and staggered backward, so enraged that he coughed up a mouthful of blood.

Han Yiming trembled violently, grinding his teeth so hard they audibly scraped together, his eyes turning completely bloodshot.
