Chapter 47: Royal Guards

Logan’s and Orion’s eyes alike widened.

"Wait, did you just say the Crown prince?" Orion took a step backwards in shock.

While Logan on the other hands appeared undisturbed by the fact but in reality his mind was in chaos.

’The crown prince? As in the heir to the throne of the Kingdom? He must be lying but...’ Logan observed the torn rags on the boys body.

Although Logan wouldn’t call himself a fashion extraordineer, he had a sense for quality material and what the boy had on although ruined was quality clothing.

Naturally, he still pondered the possibility of this being nothing more than a trap to lure unsuspecting victims so that they could be robbed.

’He could very well be.’ Logan gritted his teeth as he remembered how the royal family and the laws they created almost got him killed.

The worst part was that the reward that he was to receive after the battle that cost him his mana core was taken away from him by the same Royal family.

He could get his revenge there and then and no one would know. Well, except for Orion.

The boy in question was still engaged in active conversation with the prince.

"If you truly are the crown prince, what are you doing here?" Logan interrupted Orion as he stared down the ’prince’.

"My parents, the king and queen suddenly deemed it fit to send me far away from the kingdom’s central. They claimed that a great enemy was coming to slaughter me." The prince tried to explain his predicament.

"So the king and queen sent their only heir to the throne to the middle of nowhere with no protection whatsoever?" Logan replied with skepticism, shadows already starting to flare slightly.

"Of course not. I was accompanied by twelve of our most able guards but they all vanished over the course of a single night." The prince gripped the handle of his spear tighter.

"Now, who are you? Spies, mercenaries, the enemy?" The prince pointed the tip of the spear to Orion and in response Orion let out a short laugh.

Trying to reign himself in, Orion apologized. "I understand your fear but if you want to attack us, I’ll advise you to attack him first and go6nit use metal to attack me." He managed to say after he stopped laughing.

After a bit if hesitation, the prince turned the tip away from Orion.

"So you are without security or protection?" Orion further questioned the prince.

"Nor a means to contact the kingdom or secure food." The prince replied with a sigh.

Looking at him, Logan almost felt pity.

The hopelessness radiated by the young royal almost tugged at his heart strings.

Almost.

"Anyway let’s get going." Logan signalled at Orion and started walking in the original direction they were headed.

"Bro!" Orion yelled at Logan causin the latter to turn around slowly. He had an idea of what his friend wanted to suggest.

"We can’t just leave him, look at him." Orion pointed at the prince that had small bruises on his body.

"And why exactly can’t we leave him?" Logan raised an eyebrow.

"Firstly because it’s our duty as citizens of this kingdom and secondly, just for being nice. Is that too much to ask?" Orion stood firm on his humanitarian principles.

"Okay then. Firstly, isn’t the royal family a citizen of this country yet they don’t help those who need it. Secondly, being nice leads to familiarity which in turn leads to contempt." Logan countered.

"And yes, it’s too much to ask." He replied to Orion’s question.

Walking up to Logan, Orion placed his hand on his shoulder and whispered to him.

"Think about it. If we help him, we can receive the favor of the royal family." He winked at Logan.

Shocked at Orion’s reasons, Logan was about to reject the idea of helping the prince once again when he remembered that the windbreaker he had on even the spells that had allowed him to survive were given by the kingdom.

He wondered what the Kingdom would do if they heard that he had helped their heir.

Raising his hands in surrender, Logan agreed.

The prince walked up to them and knelt on a knee.

"Thank you for this." Genuine gratitude filled his face.

"Since we are going to be together until we deliver you to the kingdom, how about you tell us your name." Orion suggested.

"My first name is William." Prince William responded almost immediately, relieved even at the thought of getting home safely.

Without wasting much time, they resumed their journey to the town.

"You haven’t told us why you have blood on you." Orion mentioned randomly in to their journey.

"Oh this? I don’t really remember. It happened not too long ago that I woke up like this." He replied honestly.

"So you’re tell us that you just woke up with blood on you and you ARE NOT CONCERNED?!" Orion unknowingly rose his voice.

Logan too stopp6when he heard the response of the prince.

"I am not concerned because it has been happening for as long as I can remember. I just wake up with blood on my body. At first I was but my family assured me that nothing was wrong." The prince still appeared carefree regarding the matter.

Sharing a glance, Logan and Orion made a silent decision to discuss this later.

"So you’re of the darkness element right?" Orion asked as they resumed their travel.

"Well technically, darkness and earth." The prince rubbed his neck.

"You are metal and he is..." The prince said Orion’s affinity but stopped at Logan.

"Oil magic." Logan completed on behalf of the prince.

"Oil magic?!" The young royal stopped out of shock.

"Don’t listen to him okay, his element is darkness." Orion stared at Logan intently putting him off.

"Then why is he, um.... Streakless?" Prince William fumbled with his question.

"I don’t know. In fact he hasn’t even bothered to address his own hair so I just assumed he was born with it." Orion was chatty and was making conversation with the prince.

Looking in the distance, they could see the silhouette of the town.
