Divine-level Base-Chapter 43: Lair
The Black Dog Void Demons were incredibly ferocious. Their fur was tough and their bones were hard. A full-force bite from a Demonized Giant Rat could barely break their skin. The rats would then be killed with a single bite from the Black Dog Void Demons, or have their bellies torn open and disemboweled by their claws.
Though numerous, the Demonized Giant Rats were no match for the exceptionally ferocious Black Dog Void Demons.
The Demonized Giant Rats were heedless of death, as were the Black Dog Void Demons. Even when covered in bite wounds from the rats, they continued to attack frantically.
One Black Dog Void Demon, its eye bitten out by a rat, still swung its claws savagely, shredding the Demonized Giant Rats that pounced on it one after another.
SQUEAK! SQUEAK!
After hundreds of Demonized Giant Rats had been brutally killed, a sharp squeak echoed from within the swarm, and the remaining few hundred rats scurried away in disarray.
"We finally made it through!"
Linga heaved a huge sigh of relief and collapsed onto the ground.
Zhuo Qianlei, Zhong Jietong, Zou Qiang, and Liu Zhen also breathed a sigh of relief.
"Minor Heal!"
Zhong Jietong walked over to Liu Zhen and cast a Minor Heal Divine Art on him. The bite wound he’d received from the Demonized Giant Rat immediately began to heal at a rapid pace.
"Big Black!"
At Shu Feng’s soft call, Big Black shot out like an arrow from a bow, vanishing silently into the jungle.
Shu Feng glanced around. In that battle, five goblins had been bitten to death by the Demonized Giant Rats. Seven Black Dog Void Demons had their eyes gouged out and were gravely wounded, while the rest were also covered in injuries.
Even the two-meter-tall Goblin Leader’s legs were covered in bite marks. Its Power was truly formidable, but it was impossible to escape unscathed when besieged by nearly a thousand Demonized Giant Rats.
In fact, if not for the dozens of Black Dog Void Demons using an Array Formation to staunchly guard the Goblin Leader from every direction, it too would have been devoured by the swarm of Demonized Giant Rats.
The goblins, Big Goblins, the Dark Elf, and the Goblin Leader moved out quickly, collecting the Demonized Giant Rat corpses and piling them up.
Shu Feng stepped forward and, with a single touch, absorbed the Demonized Giant Rat corpses into his Base Space, where they would serve as a source of flesh and blood.
Shu Feng glanced at Linga and the others. "That’s enough for today," he said. "We’re heading back."
Liu Zhen let out a long sigh of relief. "Finally, we can go back!"
The terrifying swarm of Demonized Giant Rats had scared Liu Zhen witless; all he wanted was to go back and stay put.
Zhong Jietong stood up, a fierce flame burning in her eyes. "I can keep fighting!"
Although the battle with the Demonized Giant Rat swarm had been perilous, it had also allowed Zhong Jietong, Zhuo Qianlei, Linga, and Zou Qiang to gain several Levels and acquire numerous Free Points, drastically increasing their power.
Zhong Jietong was bent on revenge; her greatest desire was to grow ever stronger.
Shu Feng glanced at Zhong Jietong, his voice firm. "We’re going back. My Summoned Beasts need to regroup."
By spending some resources, Shu Feng’s legion could make a full recovery and even become stronger. Continuing the fight now would only weaken his Summoned Beast Corps.
Zhong Jietong sighed softly. "Alright."
The group immediately started to fall back, heading in the direction of their camp.
"How did it go?"
The moment Shu Feng returned to camp, Ding Xiaoxue came up to him and asked.
Shu Feng said in a low voice, "Next time, I should explore alone."
’Among them, Zhong Jietong, Zhuo Qianlei, and Linga were decent fighters, but they were still too weak. He had to divert too much of his attention to protecting them. Otherwise, with the power of his Synthetic Warrior Corps, he could have explored much further.’
Ding Xiaoxue nodded. "Alright. Your main objective for the next scouting mission will be to find a safe campsite up ahead."
"Alright, I’ll rest for a bit first."
Shu Feng sat down under a large tree and closed his eyes. He activated Dominator Mode, and his consciousness latched onto the Spirit Warrior-level Black Dog Void Demon, Big Black.
’So this is the lair of the Demonized Giant Rats!’
The moment Shu Feng’s consciousness took over Big Black, he found himself perched above a valley, looking down.
Down in the valley below was a black Magic Spring, from which wisps of dark Demonic Qi constantly seeped out.
Hordes of Demonized Giant Rats surrounded the Magic Spring, all of them greedily drinking from its waters.
A two-meter-tall, golden-furred Demonized Giant Rat emanated an incomparably savage aura. It was taking huge gulps of water from the Magic Spring while devouring the various beasts the other rats had hunted.
A fervent gleam flashed in Shu Feng’s eyes. ’That Magic Spring must be the source of the Demonized Giant Rats’ mutation! If I wipe out this swarm, I can claim the Magic Spring, obtain more Ghost Energy, and synthesize more Spirit Warrior-level Black Dog Void Demons.’
Synthesizing a Spirit Warrior-level Black Dog Void Demon required extremely pure Soul Power, Ghost Energy, flesh and blood, and Spiritual Power. Of these four key components, Spiritual Power wasn’t irreplaceable and could be substituted with Ghost Energy.
’If all my Black Dog Void Demons can evolve to the Spirit Warrior Level, their combat effectiveness will skyrocket. My own power will also soar, and I’ll be much safer.’
’I have to wipe them out! Weaken the enemy and strengthen myself!’
A look of determination flashed in his eyes. Shu Feng opened his eyes and said to Ding Xiaoxue in a low voice, "I’m going to scout ahead alone. I’m counting on you to guard the camp."
Ding Xiaoxue nodded. "Alright."
Shu Feng took his corps of Black Dog Void Demons and marched directly toward the Demonized Giant Rats’ lair.
After a few hours of regeneration, which consumed a great deal of flesh, blood, and electrical energy, Shu Feng’s Summoned Beast Corps was restored to its full strength.
By dusk, Shu Feng had arrived before the valley, leading a small legion composed of twenty-two Black Dog Void Demons, one Goblin Leader, five Big Goblins, twenty goblins, one tiger, one Goblin Shaman, and one Dark Elf.
"Attack! Elf 1."
Having arranged his forces into formation before the valley, Shu Feng gave the command to the Dark Elf.
The Dark Elf was extremely agile. With a flicker of movement, it slipped into the valley.
WHOOSH!
The Dark Elf fired a single, precise arrow that shot straight into the eye of a Demonized Giant Rat, piercing its eyeball.
SQUEAK! SQUEAK!
A chorus of squeaks erupted from the valley, as if a hornet’s nest had been disturbed. Hundreds of Demonized Giant Rats surged toward the entrance like a tide.
The Demonized Giant Rats soon reached the valley entrance. The two-meter-tall Goblin Leader gave a savage grin and swung its massive wooden club, bringing it down violently upon the rats. A single swing pulped several of the Demonized Giant Rats.
