Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 26: Class Awakening (2)
Chapter 26 - Class Awakening (2)
Kiera watched as multiple curse bearers took to the stage and manifested their primary artifact.
She watched the looks of excitement on each of their faces as their class was revealed and yet, she was slightly confused.
'Don't they already know their class?'
Surely, it couldn't only be her and Ark that manifested their curse during the trial. There had to be others, and yet no one seemed to have known beforehand.
Kiera could already tell her class from the moment the battle with that strange beast was reaching its conclusion. She was a mage, that much was obvious from her abilities.
Figuring out your class should be fairly easy for those whose curses had manifested during the trial.
At least that was the case for most people, except people like—
Her eyes slowly shifted to a boy who was seated a few rows ahead of her. He was watching the stage with rapt attention so she could only see his black hair.
Even though Kiera had seen Ark's curse in action she still had no idea what his class was. Was he a mage or A knight? She was still unsure.
She relaxed deeper into her chair, her eyes slowly drifting up. Somewhere in the opaque observation boxes, her father was probably watching everything with utmost focus.
He was the head of the Stormwind clan after all, at the end of the day some lucky set of people will be offered contracts to resume at the clan once their compulsory government service was over.
Her attention returned once more to the current curse bearer on the stage, a boy with blue hair and a brutish personality.
At least he looked like he already knew.
His time came and passed and finally, it was time for the person she was most interested in.
Ark rose up and began walking towards the podium. As those present saw him they began to whisper amongst themselves.
"The slum kid? He actually survived??"
"How come Jackson failed the trial but this guy gets to live?"
"There should be laws against his kind participating!"
There was growing dissent among the curse bearers, something Kiera had noticed from the beginning.
She could understand why people from the slums were hated though, more than 50 percent of crimes in this city were perpetrated by those from the slums.
Still, it didn't take a genius to know that it wasn't everyone that was like that.
Ark climbed up to the podium and faced everyone in the room, he didn't particularly look nervous, instead he looked slightly excited.
'I guess even he doesn't know.'
"You know what to do." The man in the suit said before taking a step back.
Ark nodded and took a deep breath.
"Archive Artifact."
There was a chilling silence.
The professor looked around him, appearing slightly confused.
"Try it one more time."
This time his voice was louder than before.
"Archive Artifact."
The professor walked up to him to inspect if maybe the artifact had manifested but was very small in size, like a ring.
But that wouldn't make sense since the first summoning of the artifact was usually unnecessarily flamboyant.
Still nothing.
Kiera sat up straight, leaning at the edge of her seat. She had heard of extremely rare situations, situations where the curse bearer fails their trial but is brought back to the real world.
In those cases, they are unable to manifest a primary artifact and end up dying shortly after...
'Come on Ark, you can do it!' She mentally cheered him on.
Although she barely knew him they had gone through so much together and going through the trial and facing her fear with him had created some sort of bond between them.

Or at least that was how she saw it.
"Archive Artifact!"
Ark's voice was noticeably louder now, tingled with frustration.
Still, nothing happened.
Could it be because they went through the trial together? Kiera was sure the trial was originally hers based on how it went, was it possible that he was checked off as failed due to how bizarre the situation was?
Kiera did not want to think of what would happen if he were to fail here. He was from the slums... the only thing waiting for him back at home was despair.
She could see how determined he was to complete the trial, how much he planned and how excellently he executed it.
'Was it all for nothing?'
"Archive Artifact."
A wave of laughter spread round the hall at his fourth failed attempt, even the man in the shit stifled a laugh. Everyone until him had done it on their first try...
"The slum rat is defective!" Came a voice from somewhere in the back row followed by a wave of laughter.
She recognized the voice immediately, it was Ethan.
"He passed the trial just to fail here? What a joke!"
Kiera was boiling with rage due to the incessant insults, her fingers tightened in a fist.
Realising that it was a hopeless situation, Ark finally stopped speaking and was staring at his hands instead.
'Don't give up...'
Kiera wanted to say, she wanted to scream it to his hearing but even she had run out of hope.
You only needed to say it once and the archive would respond, for him to have said it four times...
Kiera fell back to her seat, watching as Ark became an object of their ridicule.
Practically everyone was laughing and making fun of him, only a few people held themselves.
No one considered how painful it must feel to go so far, only to end up like this. They could care less about how he felt simply because he happened to live in the slums.
The entire thing made her sick to her stomach.
Kiera was about to rise to her feet and walk up to the stage, she could not bear to see him like this.
But before she could take a single step— something happened.
Still staring at his fingers, Ark's lips parted slightly and he silently spoke some words only he could have possibly heard.
Then everything changed.
