Chapter 1893: Chapter 1894: Suspicion

The interrogation was useless; the clown had no reaction to everyone’s questions. Feng Yuan released the clown in confusion, only to find the other suddenly running to a corner, picking up a prop treasure chest, and sprinting towards the Starry Sky. Furrowing his brow, Feng Yuan felt puzzled about the meaning of this clown’s existence.

"Shh!"

Just as Feng Yuan was about to ask, Veronia suddenly signaled for silence. Puzzled, Feng Yuan also pricked up his ears to listen. What was with that strange laughter?

The group walked suspiciously toward the stage. At this moment, the lion was growling low, as if warning of some presence. However, due to Veronia’s restriction still being in place, the lions couldn’t move.

Retreating to the ticket booth, Feng Yuan and the others noticed a thin layer of white mist seemed to have formed in the direction they came from. Occasionally, they saw people dressed as dolls, holding inflatable hammers and other toy weapons, walking from all around towards the mist, as if trying to fend off something.

"That thing, I remember there seemed to be a problem with it?"

"Maybe, could it be that our arrival is causing this area’s rules to start becoming unstable?"

Furrowing her brow, Veronia heard Agunas flick his tail and say,

"That possibility does exist, but what exactly is this change..."

"If this was something arranged intentionally by the other party, what exactly is their goal? Although it’s possible, I still don’t believe Xiao Xiao has such scheming."

After a moment of silence, Feng Yuan spoke up. He did not rule out the possibility that the other party had done this on purpose, just to present them with a difficult choice after they advanced into this area. But Feng Yuan had doubts about this being a large possibility. If that’s what they intended, why would they allow them to reach this place unhindered?

However, if not, the current situation seems to imply this possibility. Though the changes within the white mist’s area aren’t visible, the turbulence in the rules is undeniable. With the appearance of the white mist, that area is becoming very unstable, something unrelated to the nature of Abnormal Space, almost as if it was done on purpose.

"No matter what it is, we probably don’t have much time to waste."

Looking toward the backstage direction, Yang Hongzhi said. Now, retreating was impossible. The only solution was figuring out the reason behind all this.

"Agreed, let’s go and see what the root of all this is. If we’re lucky, we might even be able to control this Abnormal Space to send others away."

Sighing, Feng Yuan said, leading the charge toward the backstage. There wasn’t much time left. That white mist was probably something like a countdown. Once it completely engulfed this area, something unfortunate might happen.

As for controlling the Abnormal Space that Feng Yuan mentioned, it was just a guess on his part. The disorderly nature of Abnormal Space normally rendered it uncontrollable and unswayable. Therefore, Feng Yuan wasn’t particularly optimistic about controlling it. If it weren’t for their experiences on the way here, he wouldn’t even believe that possibility existed.

As they journeyed, the rules and order made him wonder whether this was truly an Abnormal Space. However, considering the unique nature of this Abnormal Space, Feng Yuan found himself curious about its origin. This Abnormal Space they encountered was vastly different from typical Abnormal Spaces.

Upon reaching the backstage again, they found that the monkey had somehow returned there. However, this time, carrying a huge box, the monkey’s actions weren’t particularly fast. Screeching at Feng Yuan and his companions in warning, the clown-attired monkey suddenly jumped onto a unicycle, pedaling down a brightly colored rod, racing into the Starry Sky again.

"That monkey looks like a circus performing animal too, but what on earth is this Starry Sky?"

Muttering, Feng Yuan shook his head and stepped onto the rod. There were no special forces on it to help them easily maintain balance, but due to the weak gravity of the area, Feng Yuan and his companions didn’t need to be as cautious as they would in the real world.

It’s unknown where the brightly colored rod led, but as they cautiously moved forward, they occasionally saw various usual circus props floating by, including a metallic lion perpetually jumping through a ring of fire.

"Honorable guests, this is the backstage, not a place for you to dwell."

While progressing, there was suddenly a puff, and a cloud of smoke exploded to Feng Yuan’s right. A middle-aged man wearing a black top hat and a tailcoat emerged from the smoke. He removed his hat and bowed to Feng Yuan, who looked at him suspiciously. Just as Feng Yuan was about to speak, Veronia suddenly interjected,

"Tartamore, the ringmaster?"

"It’s truly an honor to be remembered by such a lady."

"The ringmaster of the Tashimar Fantasy Circus? Wait a second, if that’s the case, why did that clown earlier on..."

Stunned by the other party’s reaction, Feng Yuan knew this couldn’t be a real person, yet the man’s reactions were no different from a real person. In contrast, the clown from before...

"Are you referring to the Magic Assistant?"

Tartamore, the ringmaster, smiled slightly, lightly adjusted the brim of his hat with his knuckle, and, with a puff of white smoke, the clown Feng Yuan had seen earlier appeared next to Tartamore. Seeing the clown’s vacant expression, Feng Yuan seemed to realize something.

"The area ahead isn’t for performances, I kindly ask you to leave."

"Sorry, but we can’t retreat. Veronia, it’s in your hands. Although... he looks like a good guy, but... We don’t have much time before the white mist arrives."

Turning to Veronia, Feng Yuan said solemnly. He had considered resolving the obstruction slowly, but there was no time left.

"The white mist?! How is that possible! Could it be... this..."

However, before Veronia could take action, the urgency in Tartamore’s voice surprised her. Seeing his reaction, Veronia was curious if he knew something.

Noticing everyone looking at him, Tartamore hesitated, then said,

"Wait here for me."

With a bow, he disappeared in a puff of smoke again. Feng Yuan turned to Veronia and asked,

"Should we wait for him?"

"I think it’s worth trying. Tartamore, the ringmaster, is a good person no matter the version. Besides, he doesn’t seem to bear malice, and he seems to know about the white mist. Perhaps we can find some special covert information from him."

With a finger lightly tapping her chin, Veronia said slowly, concluding that waiting for Tartamore’s return was a good choice, at least for understanding some secrets, even if they’re not of great use immediately.

"Let’s hope he doesn’t bring a group to fight us."

Feng Yuan laughed, saying that since Veronia suggested it, he too wanted to see if Tartamore could bring any useful information.

After a while, he reappeared, now with a hint of anxiety and sadness on his face. Looking at Feng Yuan and the group, he said,

"Follow this road and use this key to open a locked giant treasure chest along the way. From there, you can proceed to the next area. I hope you can save her..." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

"Save who?"

"A poor child. I will try my best to stem the spread of sadness. You had better hurry."

Tartamore didn’t explain further and tossed a golden key to Feng Yuan before disappearing in front of them. Turning to Veronia, Feng Yuan said with a strange smile,

"Looks like we didn’t get much in the way of useful clues~"

"Oh, come on, not mentioning the key, did you really not think of anything?"

Veronia rolled her eyes at Feng Yuan, speaking in a slightly exasperated tone. She believes she might have grasped something, or at least understood why the amusement park appeared the way it did, and how this ties back with the Tashimar Fantasy Circus...

"Enough with the guessing games; if you have something to say, spill it out. Otherwise, let’s just rescue the person. The one he’s referring to should be the girl, right?"

With a sigh, Yang Hongzhi stated helplessly, admitting he couldn’t guess what they were implying. Feng Yuan, with a playful grin, said,

"Alright then, since we have the key, let’s keep moving forward~"
