District 42-Chapter 384: Trust me... no matter what I do
"... So, please, trust in me!" Casper shouted in a pleading voice.
Camilla couldn’t deny that she got touched by his words. The White warrior got her right on her weak points. Also, the way he expressed himself left no room for doubts about him being trustworthy or not.
"W-Why would I? You killed so many of us in the name of the Aesirs... Since the start, you had been partying up with them... How can I think of you as an ally rather than an enemy!?" She threatened to charge in his direction again but stopped in the middle of her motion. She didn’t know what to do at that moment.
Feelings and thoughts were blossoming within Camilla that she never experienced before. It was overbearing. She felt like there wasn’t... like there wasn’t space on her soul and mind anymore.
She wanted to cry and shout out of sadness and anger at the same time. Also, she was feeling glad for some reason but frustrated as well. Her thoughts diverged and she couldn’t know exactly how to react when facing that situation.
"I have been acting beside them because, in a way, that was the only way that I could think to reach you!"
"But you could have had just approached us! With your power and will, we would surely take you under our wing, but you decided to act in their favor and kill lots of my comrades! For them, you are the White warrior, a symbol of hope, the eighth Aesir, but for us, you are nothing but an assassin!"
"I didn’t do it with evil intentions! I was trying to get in touch with you, but I couldn’t do it by just becoming your ally! Don’t you understand? I can save both, Frelsis and Jarls! I can make sure that everyone will have their rights and live their lives the better way possible. However, if I came with this idea, you wouldn’t think of it as something good, it would be like I am betraying all of you! You surely wouldn’t understand my point."
The soldier was exasperated. He just wanted that Camilla cooperated with him, nothing more. Nevertheless, she was just trying to find excuses not to believe in him. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"H-How do you know? We could have had understood your point and..."
"And could I take this risk when everyone’s life and future is on my hands? Someone with such a responsibility in their hands could really make something this dangerous and hope that everything would go right just because?"
With that last argument, Camilla went silent.
That craziness that she had in her eyes and expression was gone long ago. Now, she seemed just like a lost and confused woman, that needed to bear outrageous feelings such as wrath within her heart for too long.
’That’s right... I am not talking with the enemy of the Frelsis and ally of the Jarls, or vice versa. I am talking with a man who choose to be on the side of this entire district and take responsibility for its flaws, even though no one ever asked him to do so...’
Reality struck her right on her face, making her feel a bit of nausea.
Camilla let her sword fall on the ground, showing that she was no longer willing to fight.
Anyway, Casper didn’t let go of his sword and kept away. He couldn’t afford himself to trust her right away. It was better to let her be and see what would be the outcome of that situation.
"For a long time, I have been fighting for my ideals and for what I found that was the right thing to do. I took the place of my father and tried to keep his dream alive." She said in a choked voice. "Did I fight on the wrong side all this time?"
"There is no wrong side here, and there are no wasted struggles and fights. However, both sides were fighting in the wrong way for the right ideals. That’s it." Casper explained in a soft voice while walking slowly towards her.
Now, she seemed more suited to her gorgeous looks. Her voice, her expression, everything on her, changed in a way that made her look like another person.
"I am here not to step on your ideals and say that your years of effort were pointless. I am just a guide now. I want to show the right direction and lead this folk to better days. So, I will ask again, trust in me..."
Camilla hesitate for a moment, then looked at Casper once again as if trying to discover something.
"I... I will. If it’s for the sake of my folk, I will trust in you, White warrior." Camilla stated with a weak voice.
"Can you fully trust in me? Are you sure about it?" Casper approached her even more.
She clenched her fists. The woman made up her mind.
"Yes."
"Will you trust me... no matter what I do?"
"No matter what you do." She nodded her head.
"Keep in mind that I am struggling to make the right thing, ok?"
She nodded again, this time feeling a bit wary of Casper.
The soldier looked at her as if he was... as if he was apologizing for something.
Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain crossing her left leg as Casper’s sword pierced through it.
Camilla got so surprised that she couldn’t even scream or shriek, she just looked incredulous at it.
The soldier mercilessly kicked her stomach, sending her flying forward and smacking her back on one of the pillars of the Palace’s hall.
Casper’s eyes were cold as a blizzard, he was expressionless.
He approached the woman once again and began to search through her body as she grunted in pain due to the wound on her leg. She tried to move her body, but she couldn’t. When Casper pierced her leg, a wave of electricity was sent on her body and paralyzed her.
It was one of the blade’s special functions. Yanke discovered it himself.
The soldier found Gungnir, the mighty card, inside one of her pockets.
"I am taking this for the time being. Thank you." He simply said, turning his back to her.
