District 42-Chapter 378: Final threat
After obtaining his answer, Casper didn’t need to hesitate anymore. Now, he was a complete warrior... and soldier as well. He was able to forgive his own mistakes and raise his head. Until now, he couldn’t get fully into anything he did because of his complicated past, but there was nothing to fear.
’Just like on that time, if I keep doing my best and going forward with persistence, I won’t regret anything in the future! I just need to believe in myself and fight like I always did! I can’t make things right on earth anymore, but in District 42 I can make up for what happened in my world, I can surely save these people!’
The soldier kept running as if there was no tomorrow. Actually, if he didn’t give his all on that run, maybe the tomorrow that District 42 would meet wouldn’t be the best.
Casper wasn’t like one of those heroes of comics, manga, light novels, or any other form of storytelling out there. The world wasn’t depending on him. He had no real superpowers and wasn’t all-mighty as well. He couldn’t make any promises because he didn’t know whether he could or not fulfill them.
The White warrior wasn’t the greatest of all warriors. Casper, the colonel of the Yanke forces, wasn’t the hero of his nation. Casper, the ordinary human, wasn’t all-mighty or something like that.
However, that was what made him so strong even when facing the hardest situations of his life. Casper didn’t need to back away now because he knew that the tiny bit that he have to offer to the world was enough back in the Yanke Forces and he would do everything he could on that day to be enough to fulfill his objectives.
The soldier had more positive thoughts this time, which would be crucial for the end of all that story behind District 42.
[ Master, do you remember about the two threats that are coming our way? ]
’Yes, Yanke.’
[ They are approaching... I don’t know which one will get here first, but one of them you will surely notice! ]
That was the very first time that Casper saw Yanke acting like that. The little robot always seemed to be very composed and calm when it came to any danger, regardless of its degrees. However, something was coming and was powerful enough to get his second consciousness to worry for the first time since they united.
’Do you think I can run away, Yanke?’ The soldier asked, determined. He wouldn’t let anyone get in his way.
[ I think that we can ask for the last person that can help us. I let him for the grand finale because I knew that such opponents would appear. For now, just run as fast as you can, Master! ]
Casper nodded his head, increasing his speed and running even faster.
Soon, he could feel that the ground was shaking for some reason. The soldier, at first, thought that a person was doing such a thing, but that wasn’t the case.
In truth, it wasn’t a person, but a thing.
In the distance, Casper saw the most frightening thing that he had ever witnessed in his life.
Until then, he saw a lot of outrageous technologies in District 42, but in terms of destructive power, he didn’t think that something like that would exist and be in control of the Frelsis.
Jomurgand was crossing the battlefield at high speed and going in his direction. Its creepy blue eyes were glazed on Casper, showing that it was aiming precisely at him.
The soldier turned to the left on a near street and began to run in the opposite direction while that giant monster made of steel was chasing after him.
He exerted all the strength that he had in his legs, and Yanke helped him by enhancing his body and making him run even faster. Nonetheless, it wasn’t fast enough to make up the speed of that killing machine.
Casper didn’t give up, though. He kept his hopes raised on the only person that was yet to show his potential to him. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
’I am being saved a lot of times here, right, Yanke? I feel ashamed of myself, but I will make up for it later. I can’t really do anything against Jomurgand at this point, can I?’ In order to keep thinking straight, he maintained his brain working. He couldn’t sink into despair, otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to maintain his legs working as they should.
Jomurgand exerted a lot of pressure, after all. There was no normal human being that wouldn’t get frightened and totally panicked once seeing that thing.
[ I don’t think that there is anything that we can do to stop Jomurgand, Master. I have some gadgets and tricks yet to show, but I am figuring out how to use them myself. Also, there is a major problem: you will need to learn how to use as well. Although it’s a process that doesn’t take more than some seconds, we don’t have the time even for this right now. Casper spotted the danger coming before. The person lurking through the buildings tried really hard to prevent from getting noticed, but the soldier didn’t have an ordinary vision anymore.
Just like a bullet, someone jumped from a building and gave chase after him, catching up with Casper in no time and nearly ripping his head off.
The soldier could dodge in the last second, but that was near, even though he noticed him beforehand.
’J-Just who is this crazy fast person?’
[ Master, be careful. This is the last threat I told you about. Our very last barrier. However... it is even more powerful than Jomurgand at this point... ]
Casper turned to face the person that just attacked him...
"R-Raul!?" He shouted in surprise when he saw the face of the old butler.
