District 42-Chapter 366: I definitely won’t lose
Vick was lying on her bed... as always.
The days after she lost the movement on her legs were completely boring and tended to get her very demotivated.
She didn’t want to go outside, even though she could do it with her wheelchair. Vick found it incredibly boring because she could only leave at night if she wanted to, so nobody would be able to see her in that state. After all, just the healers and the Aesirs knew about what happened to her.
She didn’t want to go out at night, though, much less with a wheelchair. It didn’t seem as good as a normal night walk.
The Aesirs often visited her and tried to talk for a little bit and walk with her outside, but she always refused the latter.
It was clear that they got very sad, sometimes angry, that she wasn’t even trying to rehabilitate properly. Anyway, none of them would ever understand that Vick was already rehabilitated. After her conversation with Casper, she made up her mind and began to sort out her feelings. She didn’t pass all day in complete idleness. Her mind was always working.
Nonetheless, in order to get her mind working properly, she needed to forget about her physical body, because it was just a nuisance now. Whenever she thought about her state, she would get melancholic.
Vick knew that she needed to face her problem as a courageous individual should do, but now she wanted to avoid it and just think about other important things. The princess needed to recover quickly, so she didn’t have time to fight against it.
’I think that I will just sleep now. I thought about too many things. I sorted out some issues with MMA as well. I am getting better quickly, but it is tiring.’
She was learning how to turn herself on the bed without the need for help.
Not only that, she was getting the hang of many daily things that she needed to go through on her own.
The healers got happy that she was able to do more things by herself, though Vick didn’t find it to be such a big deal.
With a bit of struggle, she turned to the side, her favorite position to sleep, then closed her eyes slowly.
’I wanted that he appeared here now...’ She thought. ’It’s been a while already. I want him.’
She didn’t like to think like a teenager in love, but in times when her mind would keep wandering through dangerous paths and her heart began to get hurt, she wanted to have someone beside her.
As if the gods heard her pleading and sympathized with her, the entrance of the tent opened and someone entered.
Just by his presence, Vick could know who it was.
"You sure is a shameless man, to come here to see me like this. Idiot."
Casper chuckled by hearing her words.
"Don’t get angry at me, please. I didn’t do it with bad intentions."
"A man sleeps with a woman and then disappears in the next morning and says that he didn’t have bad intentions." She raised the upper part of her body, giving him a cold stare. "I can only think in very bad intentions when I look at this situation."
Casper scratched his neck, giving a shameless smile.
He, indeed, did something suspicious, then disappeared for some time. Anyway, he didn’t think about anything wrong when doing it.
"I just didn’t want to wait for you to wake up because I wouldn’t be able to get out of the bed if I did as such." He spoke, softly.
Vick’s cheeks got red, but she didn’t avoid her gaze.
"So, you know how to be romantic as well, White warrior?"
"Hmm, I am not a romantic person at all... I just say the truth."
She shook her head.
"Liar. You lied to me a lot of times already."
Casper casually walked toward her bed, sitting there and taking her by the hand.
He wanted to have another lovey-dovey conversation with her, and maybe sleep with her again. Unfortunately, his intentions of visiting her that night weren’t about it. He didn’t have time to do that. Not for now.
Vick was approaching him slowly, striving a bit because of her legs.
Casper took her in his arms and made her sit on his lap.
She got startled by that sudden movement but didn’t disapprove. Actually, she was glad to be so close to him.
Vick put her arms around Casper’s neck and relied her face on his shoulder. She wanted to kiss him, but his face was serious, even stiff, so she didn’t know if that was the right time to do so.
"I am sorry, Vick, but I didn’t come here just to converse about trivial things. It is about all this situation out there."
"Hmm?"
"Tomorrow’s morning... will be the day. I mean, we have decided what to do so... You know."
Vick’s heart throbbed once she heard that. Her eyes widened and she had a complicated expression on her face, but she hid it from Casper by tightening the embrace and don’t let him see her.
"I see..." She struggled to keep her voice composed.
"I am sorry." Casper could only say that. He didn’t have much to say, in reality. If anything, he could only ensure her with empty words that everything would be okay, giving her false hopes.
"It’s okay... Do your best, White warrior. I will be waiting for you." She kissed him on his forehead, then finally looked at his eyes, getting a bit distant.
"I will pray for every god I know so that you will surely win."
Casper nodded.
He got up, taking her again and placing gently her body on the mattress.
"Don’t worry. I do not intend to lose this battle..." He turned his back to her but didn’t move. After some seconds, he sighed and looked over his shoulder, smiling. "I definitely won’t lose!"
Casper took his black mask, wearing it, then left the tent.
Vick covered herself with the sheets. Her face was nonchalant at first, but then she started to cry.
’Idiot... You didn’t say you would be back... You didn’t...’
For her, Casper avoiding to say that had a huge meaning behind it.
