District 42-Chapter 362: Gift
As Casper made his promise with those resolute eyes, Wayland’s face brightened. He was sure that he could trust the White warrior to do that. He was glad that he found someone to rely on.
"Thank you very much, White warrior! Thank you..." He was relieved from the bottom of his heart. He barely could believe that his dream was coming true in front of his eyes.
As long as Casper gave the first step, finally entering fully into the equation together with the Frelsis and Jarls, things would settle down.
Wayland calculated all the possible variables and he knew that the soldier could overcome all of them. Also, he already prepared countermeasures for everything in order to assure the victory of the White warrior over any kind of issue.
"I don’t have anything with me that could retribute this huge favor that you are doing for my folk. You don’t have any idea of how much glad I am now. However, I wanted to give you a gift even though you may think that it is not necessary..." Wayland said with a soft voice while searching through his office for something.
"What? Do you think that I am THIS kind? Then, you are very wrong. I do want compensation. The sooner, the better!" Casper laughed maliciously.
He wouldn’t deny a present just because of kindness or hesitation. If someone was offering something to him because they thought he deserved it, he would keep it with him without faltering.
Also, in the situation that he was throwing himself in, he needed as many resources as possible. Someone as powerful as Wayland would certainly have something with him that could help Casper a lot.
"So, about what I will give to you..." Wayland began to explain to him. "I was looking at your previous performance and found out that, despite your physical prowess and skill, the most outstanding thing on you is your intellect. You can think about multiple things at the same time, in a short period, and with coherence. There aren’t too many people out there who can do such a thing.
"That said, I was looking forward to gifting you with something that would fit your fighting style and the way you usually solve things. Then, I was thinking to myself: What kind of thing I can give to someone like him? It needs to be a power that can match even the Vanirs. Something mighty and useful, that suits you. That’s when I found Yanke..."
Casper got interested in what he was saying. It seemed that he wouldn’t receive a weapon such as a Vorpal Blade, but something maybe even better if he could use it properly.
"What does Yanke have to do with my mighty gift?" Casper tilted his head.
"This robot... No, I can’t address him as a robot as if he was just a lot of cable, steel, and data gathered. In truth, it’s safe to call him an individual, because this being really thinks and feels like a human." He cleaned his throat before starting again. "Well, this individual has something that can help you in many ways, but that wasn’t too assertive for now because you two couldn’t use your power together."
Wayland was looking in a lot of drawers and cabinets, searching like crazy for something and often muttering places where he could have left THAT thing in the last time.
’Together, huh? Is that so? I thought that I and Yanke were connected well enough.’ Casper thought.
"Look, I found it!" Wayland took a paper that was laid on a table, very well hidden. He found the paper totally by chance. If not for his luck, he would stay all day looking for it.
He showed the paper to Casper. There was something written on it.
"I think that I can’t understand it quite well, but it has something to do with... hmm, programming, maybe?"
He nodded his head, smiling. Casper couldn’t understand those code lines, but soon he would know their real utility.
Wayland fleed to the huge computer, Forge42, again. He looked towards the screen while typing on his mental keyboard.
He accessed the panel with the code lines of all the masks of the district, accessing one in particular that Casper knew very well what was. He recognized it because he analyzed those code lines for a lot of time back in Halden.
"T-This is the code line of my mask..." He commented.
Wayland nodded.
"Exactly. I won’t activate it anymore. Not to take your freedom, at least. But it will be your new power."
Casper watched while he typed the same code line described in the paper, changing something in the structure and functionality of the mask. He also deleted a couple of codes, which Casper interpreted to be the ones that influenced directly the mask’s restrictions.
After some minutes, he walked towards Casper, but not aiming him. He was staring at Yanke.
"Hey, little one. May you give that thing that we agreed before? I promise that I won’t hurt you." He asked in a gentle voice and with politeness.
Yanke opened a compartment on his spheric body. From that compartment, a square thin card went out.
Casper was aware of what it was and got worried, but stayed quiet.
’If he does something wrong with Yanke, I will destroy that computer with my own hands...’ The soldier crossed his arms.
The Forger inserted the card on the computer, which made automatic programming, changing again several things on the mask’s code lines.
Wayland retrieved the card to the robot, who put it again on his body. Afterward, Yanke turned off instantly, the blue details on his body turning black. He slowly descended to the ground, stopping to fly.
As Casper saw all his worries concretizing in front of him, his jaw dropped.
Although he thought that thing, he wasn’t expecting Wayland to do any mistake for real. He was sure that everything would be ok.
"What... What the hell did you do?"
