District 42-Chapter 310: Savior
Casper went through all the floors until the one where the laboratories were.
’As far as I know, the Fourth Lab is basically the base of the company that takes care of the Teleporting pads. When I first came here, I noticed that it was like a whole factory was built inside here. If the Frelsi could make something to control that Jomurgand, then they should be infiltrated in the laboratories, which means that it is the same in the Fourth Lab. That’s how they probably could take control on the Teleporting pads.’
During his fall, Casper was thinking deeply on that matter, trying to conclude how they could mess with those Teleporting pads.
’If it was just a few pads that got hacked, then it would be understandable, but the whole bunch that is placed on the Castle to be controlled... That’s suspicious. If they wanted to do something like this, they should go right on its source and operate from there.’
He crossed that floor quick enough to arrive at the Fourth Lab in just some minutes. Casper knew that he didn’t have too much time there, so he couldn’t slack for even a second.
’I passed by some other destroyed cities in the way and they all had about the same appearance as the previous one. However, it seems that all the fights are gone now. There isn’t anything to worry about. However, the Royal Family was slaughtered and I didn’t find Vick anywhere. Some Aesirs are missing in the count, and I couldn’t see Jomurgand at all. They went somewhere that I cannot access, but they can appear anytime. In the worst-case scenario, Vick and the others might be in danger.’
The White warrior wanted to look all over the Castle to find them somehow. However, he knew that it wasn’t possible. He first needed to open a way out to the citizens, Ridires, and the nearly dying Aesirs. He couldn’t make the same mistake that he did back when he choose to save Vick instead of saving millions of lives.
’Although it hurts a lot, I will do my best to make things right and save as many people as I can.’
Casper stopped for a moment in front of the Fourth Lab’s structure. He sighed, praying internally to have had come to the right conclusion.
Just as he thought, the Lab’s door was opened. Someone broke through inside it.
’If they were infiltrated, why would they break through?’ It was surely something related to their scheme. He just needed to know why they needed to do it.
He entered into that place carefully, never losing his focus and trying to pay attention to any strange move that he could notice.
The laboratory had some of its lights broken. Others were flashing. All the amazing equipment he saw before was completely destroyed. The structure was cracked and some parts were collapsing. There were strange liquids and oil spread everywhere, also as engines and other parts of all sorts of machines.
Nonetheless, Casper didn’t see any corpses around. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
’This kind of destruction isn’t something you can do with your hands or just with a gun. At most, they were with a kind of weapon of high caliber, but I am sure that they used grenades and different types of destructive technologies inside here. However, they seemed not to be seeking blood, but something else...’
Walking further on the Fourth Lab, the scene was the same. It was even creepy how things were now.
Casper finally arrived at the place where Zap corp. operated. Its big structure was thoroughly destroyed, but the criminals were more assertive on that part.
’Now I see... They wanted to break through the Fourth Lab because they needed to enter with the explosives and weapons. They wanted to destroy every machine and block of research in this laboratory, so they wouldn’t be able to recover the Teleporting pads again. They are cunning. They prepared everything, indeed.’
Casper was impressed, but he was expecting something of that level. After all, just as Javir told to him, the Frelsis were preparing themselves for that great raid for years. The previous steps, even the midwest battle, were all part of their schemes.
However, the White warrior knew that there was something that the Royal Family had hid under their sleeve. Something that just the King and the Queen might know.
’The midwest battle must have had a meaning for them as well, also like a lot of different situations between the Frelsi and the Jarls. I think that, although this battle seems one-sided, it is tied. There is something more about to happen, and I shall act before it unfolds and I can’t do anything anymore.’
Casper finally arrived at the place he wanted to when entering the laboratory. That was the operation center of the Zap corporation. The programmers worked there, also as the technicians and other people involved in the system of the Teleporting pads.
Unfortunately, that place was the most destroyed. Casper couldn’t even distinguish the old state of that part from the new one. It seemed like a new place, much messier and in ruins.
The White warrior gritted his teeth in frustration.
’I was hoping that they would let something behind, maybe commit a mistake or something, but they were extra careful when dealing with this part of the laboratory. They didn’t let any opening for the scientists to make something work again.’
The soldier was now in a pinch. He didn’t know what to do. He expected that the enemies would still be operating inside that base and planned to get them unprepared, then fix the mess they made and save everyone. But things don’t go always the way we want.
’What can I do by now? Should I leave this place and try again? Is it the best choice?’
It was pointless to stay in that place without doing anything. Casper couldn’t afford himself to do something else other than find ways to free those citizens from the Castle, so he decided to get out quickly.
However, he was obliged to stop when he heard a sound coming his way in that place.
He prepared himself for the worst but got surprised once he saw Canute’s father stumbling toward him.
