District 42-Chapter 290: Life’s value part 4
Leo was astonished while looking at the Immortal Aesir standing in front of him with his wounds healing faster every second.
He couldn’t believe that he assaulted him at full strength, but even so, he couldn’t make him fall to the ground, at least.
’While I attacked this piece of scum, he kept healing himself. I didn’t know that his regeneration worked so well. In the first blow, he lasted for a long time until he appeared. I thought that it was because his healing was slow, but he might have wait for me to show any openings.’ 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
The Vanir was still concerned about something else. He didn’t have any idea about the strength that Rurik had. The only blow that the Aesir landed on him since he appeared was capable to send his body flying, after all.
Nonetheless, it had been more than eight minutes of battle since then, and Rurik just kept getting beaten without even raising a finger to counterattack.
’There is something wrong here. However, in this form that I am currently in, it’s difficult to reason properly. I am holding myself not to snap wildly. If I lose concentration I can get in a frenzy.’
He was also a warrior, and he knew that the lack of control of his emotions was something that could lead him to death.
Despite his worries, the Vanir knew that his only choice was to keep pressing forward and attacking.
’Now, it will be a different goal. I need to beat the shit out of him, but fast enough to catch up with his regeneration speed!’
Leo made Indigo Energy flow with major speed on his veins, which lead his body to get hotter and his muscles, stiffer.
The Vanir rushed towards Rurik.
He sank his fist on Rurik’s stomach, making the Aesir spat a mouthful of blood in the ground. Plus, he continued to punch his body and face repeated times, using his max strength, until he broke the walls of that building.
Rurik finally fell to the ground, on top of the wreckage of that destruction.
Leo jumped inside there and slammed both his fists on the ground once he landed. Rurik’s chest sunk due to the impact, his lungs and heart exploded inside the chest.
Not satisfied, the Vanir continued to slaughter him while he was on the ground. He didn’t stop to punch until his arms were so exhausted that he could not raise his gauntlets anymore.
As a last resort, he grabbed Rurik’s destroyed body, launching him against the building’s wall again. He broke through the concrete and fell on the streets.
Leo walked to the street while panting heavily, his head was throbbing in pain. It somehow made him even more angry and violent.
He took a piece of concrete, raising it from the ground. It was pointed and long, like a spear.
The Vanir ran towards Rurik, who was trying to raise his upper disfigured body, and impaled the man’s chest.
Silence befell the surroundings. Just the sound of Leo’s breath could be heard there.
Rurik didn’t move his body for a good while. That green light released by his gloves was still there, though. Some seconds were sparred before the healing process began again, this time more accelerated than before.
Leo’s jaw dropped once he saw it.
The Aesir had his head completely sunk. His brain was coming out of it, even. His entire trunk was destroyed, together with all the organs and bones inside it. His legs and arms weren’t the worst ones but had a great amount of damage as well, one of them was nearly ripped off from the body.
’He probably had an instantaneous brain death, his heart got smashed, his lungs as well... These gloves can’t do it, right? They can’t simply resurrect someone, can they? That’s inconceivable! This guy was supposed to be just a fool that people dare to call Immortal for some reason! There is no way that he can do such a thing!’
Another chill went down his spine, making his body tremble completely. For the first time in that battle, he didn’t push forward but backed away. His mind couldn’t take it. Immortality wasn’t something that should exist, even in an advanced society like District 42.
Nonetheless, despite his disbelief, Rurik’s body began to get rebuilt from such a state in front of his eyes. Soon, his limbs were even moving clumsily but acquiring more precision.
Rurik held the concrete shard that empaled him and pushed it forward, taking it off his chest slowly. The huge cut opened there closed quickly, healing completely.
Soon, the Immortal Aesir was standing on his feet, staring at his enemy with the same depressed look as before.
"Just... Just what kind of monster are you!? How can you do it? You just overcame death! You should have been in Valhalla on Helheim at this point! It’s possible to rebuild the body, but not do it with your soul! That’s not logic at all!"
"Who are you to say this to me? You are basically a monster yourself. Look at all you have done. You can throw someone’s body with such strength that it turns into a demolition ball. You can smash someone’s body like jelly. That’s the true monster for me."
The Vanir punched the ground out of frustration and anger, breaking it.
"Don’t joke around with me! Resurrecting is a totally different matter!"
"You are wrong." Rurik snapped. His face had a grim expression, the melancholy inside his eyes seemed to be overbearing even to look at.
Leo felt an uncomfortable sensation, and his eyes widened once he heard that serious response coming from Rurik.
"It’s not resurrection at all. The dead don’t resurrect, because they can’t die. Their souls can’t be reconstructed, because they don’t have souls anymore."
Rurik gazed at Leo’s eyes. His pupils had a blue gleam on them.
"I am already dead, Leo. That’s why nothing can kill me anymore. That’s why I have nothing to lose... And that’s the reason why I know very well about life’s value and advice you to evaluate yours and run away now."
