District 42-Chapter 289: Life’s value part 3
Upon hearing Rurik’s words, Leo went into berserker mode. He was a prideful person, so hearing someone mocking and underestimating him hit right when it hurts. His anger could be sensed in the air, even Rurik felt the hairs of his neck stand on end.
The man kicked the ground, advancing towards the Immortal Aesir. Every step he did create a shallow crater under his feet. That street was thoroughly broken already, and the colossal strength of that man helped to worse it even more.
Rurik, though, didn’t leave the spot. He waited patiently for the arrival of his enemy. His hands were still on his pockets and his eyes didn’t show surprise, fear, nor any trace of resolution. They were still melancholic.
It made Leo even more furious. Seeing someone taking such a powerful charge so lightly drove him crazy. Before, he was being careless to not overdo it and end up being fooled because of his emotions, but now he didn’t care anymore. He was going at full speed and strength.
Like a bull, Leo launched his body against the Aesir, bumping into him with strength enough to sent him flying towards a nearby building. Rurik broke through its structure again, but now the impact was far stronger than before.
Leo kept looking at the hole that Rurik’s body made in the walls with surprise and dumbfoundedness at the same time. He was hoping that the Immortal Aesir would do something right before he could collide with him. The man was prepared to bear the most strong counters that he possibly would receive.
’I didn’t expect to hit him on my first charge at all. Was he that weak? The superiors said that he was just a small fry that never participated in the battles with the Aesirs, but to think that someone with such a high position would be so weak...’
He didn’t know if he could believe it. After the attack he received, the harmless state of that red-haired man, and the speech he gave before they started to fight, he supposed that the Aesir was more than they said.
"Pathetic. I got enraged for nothing." He snorted, disappointed.
"Yeah, yeah. Life is quite disappointing and pathetic. That’s why I am in such a rush to end with it already. Every day is a different struggle."
Rurik’s voice came from inside the building. He wasn’t striving to talk, his voice had a normal tone. It made a chill run down the Vanir’s spine.
’After such a powerful collision he is even able to walk and talk properly!? His bones should have been all shattered and reduced to dust, and his organs smashed! At least, his chine would be harmed.’
However, contrary to any of his expectations, Rurik left the building through the same hole he made.
"I think that you forgot something very important, Vanir." He pointed to himself. "I am a healer. I am very good at healing people, but even more when healing my own self. No matter what kind of harm I get..." he showed his gloves, which shone in a green light before getting red again, "it will always recover in a matter of seconds.
Leo’s body was getting red after such an outrageous thing. Since the start, he had been fooled by the tricks of that fool! He had been spending energy and even used his strongest form, just to meet a sandbag that would just receive blow after blow and always come back.
"Stubborn..." Leo growled, between teeth.
"I know, right? Just someone as stubborn as me would be able to be Immortal. I miss that time when I was inconsequent enough to play with life and death and not regret it." The Aesir rambled in a sad tone of voice.
"If you will always regenerate when I attack you, I just need to keep attacking and don’t give you time to recover yourself!" He rushed again towards Rurik.
The blue color of his veins and eyes got intenser as he increased his power.
’Now, I don’t have any doubt.’ Rurik’s gloves got green again as he raised his guard, waiting for the clash. ’This guy somehow could survive when implanting Indigo energy in his body!’
Leo’s fist cut the air, smacking Rurik right on his guard and sending him several meters behind.
Nonetheless, the Vanir didn’t stop there. He continued to boost his body forward, giving a flurry of blows on the healer.
He sent him flying to all sides, always pursuing him everywhere he went. The Aesir didn’t have the time to fall to the ground. In middle-air, he got hit and pushed in another direction again and again.
Each punch that Leo gave smashed a different part of Rurik’s body, he was all disfigured and broken already. The streets got dirt with his blood that spatted around. Leo’s gauntlets were thoroughly red.
After several minutes of this frenzy, Leo finally stopped after the last attack that pushed Rurik against a building.
He was panting heavily, sweat and blood covering his face. He exerted so much strength on his muscles that they were numb. He didn’t believe that he needed to push himself to such an extreme just to kill that weakling.
Before, he didn’t have any trouble when lifting his gauntlets and running around, but now he was needing to strive a little bit.
’This should teach to him a lesson when he gets stuck in Helheim, this bastard. The fool really made me go hard on this battle. I hope I still have enough power to fight against more people. I bet that the other Vanirs will appreciate some help.’ He turned his back to where Rurik’s body should be and began to walk.
"Hey... I think we aren’t done."
He looked back with a grim expression.
Rurik was standing still, his green gloves emitting a blinding light that enveloped his body. Leo could hear his bones and flesh healing, his body was getting rebuilt slowly in front of him.
"That’s all you’ve got, Lion?"
