Chapter 236: Countered

The Sgails got curious about the call at the exact moment that Leonel hung up. They couldn’t hear what was said before, so they were waiting anxiously for their leader to inform them about what happened.

Casper noticed that all of them weren’t interested in the operation itself, but just willing to start to move and enter into action.

’These guys are filled with adrenaline. What’s going on here, huh? Am I stuck with a bunch of addicted people in fighting?’

Casper was getting worried because he didn’t want to put himself into trouble due to the reckless actions of people like that.

He was particularly cautious regarding Susie and Eva.

The first seemed to be quite serious before, but now she was fidgeting and checking her equipment all the time. No need to be a genius to know that she was one of the integrants who was the most excited about what was about to come.

"I hope that the explosives don’t work, so we can have some fun, at least." She commented with Susie, who was sharpening the edge of one of her numerous knives attached to the body.

Eva’s eyes were distant and she seemed to talk more to herself than to someone else.

After he heard that quote, the White warrior could do nothing but feel uncomfortable and walk a step backward.

He saw a lot of crazy people in his career as a military man, but District 42 seemed to have the most eccentric ones.

"I just want to fight for a bit. It’s been a while since they don’t give me a mission in which I can kill people. Now that I have the opportunity, I want to have fun with at least one enemy."

Susie finished sharpening her blade and kept it on a sheath placed on her calf. She then focused on another knife that was on her waist, unsheathing it and testing its edge.

"You all seem to have lost a brain cell. That’s a bother..." The only reasonable person present in that place, except Casper, was Eskil.

"You are the only one who was not looking forward to it, Eskil. In my perspective, you are the strange one here, hehe." Ivar spoke.

’I think all the experiences I will have here will be unique and the craziest ones of my life.’

Casper looked to Leonel, who was waiting for them to stop their show and hear what he had to say. He had his usual ironic eyes and was staring at Casper, mocking him.

In the end, he turned again to his team.

"Ok, you bunch of idiots, stop to distract yourselves and pay attention to me! I will just allow this kind of light environment for the time being because the first step of the plan was a success. Now, we just need to make sure that they will take those boxes to the shed and then explode everything there."

Eskil raised his hand.

"Do they evacuated the buildings on that perimeter? That’s important as well, the explosion will harm everything in a huge ratio if everything goes well, after all."

Leonel nodded with his head. He had a certain respect for Eskil. The man was the only person he knew that didn’t lose entirely his sanity due to the years acting with the Sgails.

"I didn’t receive a call, for now. But they probably did it already. It’s not a hard thing, after all. Anyway, we need to focus now on follow those Drakkars and ensure that the plan will be finished just right."

’The plan seems to be simple in these first steps, but there is something that is bothering me and everyone here, I bet.’

Casper had his arms crossed and reviewed what they discussed at the previous reunion.

’We couldn’t have the time to prepare ourselves too much, or then make a well-crafted strategy. We just know what we need to do: destroy all the criminals and one of their bases, together with the Drakkars and items they have. However, there is a troublesome element in the middle of it...’

Leonel prepared himself and went to the window of the building they were in. That floor was completely abandoned and was chosen as the place where they would gather before going out. It had an advantageous position as well.

"We are going. There is no need to discuss it more. We can’t lose track of them, so I am counting with you on it, Eskil."

The man answered his leader with a nod.

"Also, Eva, you won’t be going to the frontline as per usual. Keep on distance. You know that you will be a decisive factor in our plan, right? Do it well."

"Uh?" The woman was aloof just a while ago and struggled to understand what was going on.

Eskil encharged himself to explain to her.

"Ok. Susie now. Well, I want you to stick with Ivar and try to catch up with his crazy pace. It wouldn’t do any good if he acted all alone in a meticulous operation like that and messed with everything. You are as crazy as him, but know how to control yourself."

Susie sheathed her last knife gave a thumbs up to Leonel.

"Ivar knows what to do." He said, simply. "And, Casper... Well, you will adapt to whatever that comes, I suppose."

The White warrior nodded.

After this, they jumped from the building, landing in another one that was not too far away below.

Eskil was in front, typing in a tablet and controlling several drones that appeared from different spots around. They flew far away and at a crazy speed.

That was how the man could track so perfectly. That, and the tracker that they put in one of the vehicles, helped them a lot with their timing to prepare their trap.

He kept giving the right directions, always updating Leonel about the movement of the enemy.

At a certain point, the troop spread around the other buildings, in a half-moon formation.

Leonel talked to them through a communicator. His voice could be heard in the earphones they were wearing.

"Remember, Sgails, the main mission isn’t to kill all the criminals but to bring the Rat alive. He is the top priority. We are on a race against our trap!"

They answered with strong affirmations.

’It’s about time to start everything! Today is the end of all this troublesome situation!’

Casper put a determined smile on his face, giving strong strides until the edge of a building bordering the street where the Drakkars would be passing.

Once they got there, they finally spotted those flying ships going at a reasonable speed. However, something was off, and not just the soldier, but all the Sgails noticed it right off the bat.

"A Drakkar is missing!" Casper communicated with them.

"Eskil, situation!"

"I don’t know how they did it, but I lost track of them gradually. My drones got intercepted several times! The Drakkar with the tracker is still there, though!"

"Hey, hey, hey! Are you kidding that you are paying attention just to a freaking Drakkar when all the boxes aren’t where they should be anymore!? Where are they?" Susie was the one shouting this.

They started to get anxious, they strongly believed that everything was alright, but now their plan was shattering in front of them.

Leonel couldn’t understand what was going on.

Eskil searched for the enemies frenetically, but he hadn’t succeeded so far.

Susie had her hair standing on end. Her instincts were showing that something was surely going to happen.

Eva was aloof as always, but the grip on her sniper was as tight as never before. Her breath was controlled, but she needed to struggle to keep like this.

"The distribution of criminals is higher than it should be in each Drakkar. Someone individually took the vehicle away somehow. I can’t spot the Rat as well. My lenses can’t find him." Ivar had lenses on his eyes that were helping him to analyze the situation.

He seemed to be a crazy guy who just reasoned with his muscles and weapons, but he was an Aesir. He was the perfect warrior. Someone who is not just strong physically, but mentally as well.

"There is just one way to hide a Drakkar like this. They are probably traveling between the buildings..."

"What are you saying, Ivar!? Why would they do such a thing, to begin with!?" Susie asked, frowning.

Casper was linking the points, in deep thought. For a moment, a chill went down his spine. In the other moment, just after he came to a dreadful conclusion, Eskil yelled.

"Jump from the freaking building!!" Even without the communicators, they could be able to hear his voice.

Appearing from between the constructions, a Drakkar rushed towards the buildings where they were on top.

Its speed was at its peak. Lots of boxes were placed inside it.

It collided with the building and right after a calamity happened.
