Chapter 204: The Fourth Lab part 1

That day, Casper was going out with Adam. It was the day before he would be going to the mission with the Sgails. Some preparations were still being done for the Seasonal Meeting of Jarls, so he got some free time to do what he wanted.

In the end, he tagged along with Adam, since the last was going to the Fourth Lab to get some materials and discuss some things with other scientists from there.

Casper was always curious to know how things worked in the other laboratories. He learned in a hard way what happened inside the Third, but he still had the Second and the Fourth to go, and now that he got the opportunity to do so, he surely would take advantage of it.

The thing that delayed him so much to do it was because Casper couldn’t enter and left the other laboratories every time he wanted to. To go to another lab you didn’t work at, one needed to request an access card, which would last for just one day. To get this card, there was a lot of bureaucracy; it was just like trying to get a Visa to enter a foreign country.

There were just a few people that could afford themselves to do as they pleased, and Adam was one of these people.

The White warrior was yet to discover how much influent that guy was. Whenever he thought that the scientist couldn’t go further, he did so and left the soldier amazed.

While walking beside him, going to the most near Teleporting pad next to the Main Lab, Casper was in deep thought about that matter.

"I wonder how much influence this guy has among the Jarls, but mainly among the Royal family. I never saw the Princess talk much to him, but I got the feeling that he really is someone that could keep in touch with those people... If that’s the case, maybe Adam can serve as a vehicle for me to know more about them..."

Casper didn’t like too much that side of him, but he always tried to label people according to their utilities, just as they were tools. Not that he dehumanized them, though; he still had empathy, but the soldier found it to be more practical this way.

As per usual, the course wasn’t too long. In a matter of minutes, they were already in front of the Fourth Lab.

Something passed in Casper’s mind, a question that he found to be interesting to ask by then.

"Hey, Adam, I am wondering now... What would happen if the teleporting pads stopped working? For example, let’s say that one day the enterprise administrating them commit a mistake and it just starts to bug."

Adam found that question to be very interesting, he even simulated in his mind that situation, and played with the various possibilities that appeared there.

"That’s a good question... let’s see... Well, the Teleporting pads are the only way to get to the other floors, so people would be stuck on the same floor they are, and wouldn’t get out of there, except if they destroyed the Castle’s walls or floor, like you did."

Casper faltered for a moment when hearing about that mess he made before, but kept his cool.

"Well... the Ridires wouldn’t be able to circulate, so the defense of the city would be broken. If we are saying of long periods, the economy would be messed at some point as well. Also, some floors wouldn’t have enough supplies to maintain the citizens, and they would be in trouble with food and other basic necessities... Well, in short, all the connections and interrelation between the floors would be cut. It would be just like take a single gear of a system that works all together."

When he ended the explanation, they were already standing next to the entrance door of the laboratory. Adam pressed a button in an intercom right beside it and a voice sounded through the speaker.

"Please, show your GBI or access card at the sensor."

Adam brought his arm near the sensor. A blue ray came out of it and started to analyze all his GBI, the complex birthmark very similar to a barcode.

Once it ended, the doors opened, and the scientist carefreely walked inside it. Casper was way more excited than him, and it was noticeable.

"Don’t be so excited, man... You know, there aren’t lasers, or explosives, or super mechas here. It’s not as interesting as the other three labs..." Adam did not like the Fourth Lab. But not because the people there were hard to deal with or something like this.

The genius just didn’t like what they researched. It was pointless for him, and although it had importance for society as a whole, he wasn’t caring much about it. If it wasn’t interesting or amazing enough, Adam wouldn’t bother to pay attention, that’s how he worked.

"Adam, you are always teaching me things, so now is my time... Everything has an interesting utility, you just need to look at it from a different perspective."

The man rolled his eyes while liting a cigarette with unknown content inside it. Adam didn’t like to be taught as well, it was an arrogant part of him.

The Fourth Lab had an interior similar to the Main Lab. It was divided into sections, or blocks, where people would make their own researches in different fields. The interesting thing about that laboratory was the diversity of things that they were working in there.

Casper could see people creating different machines and tools to help in agriculture, engineering, architecture, domestic tasks, and so on.

The soldier was amazed by how many things were happening at the same time, and he got even more absorbed by the environment of that place. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"W-wow... do they project vehicles here as well!?" He asked, turning to his right side, where Adam should be, but the scientist vanished all of a sudden. "Uh? Where are..."

"Yes, we do it here as well. It’s basically a tool if you think about it." Someone answered his question. The voice was coming from above him.

Raised from the ground was a prototype of a Drakkar. Casper saw some of those vehicles being projected at the Third Lab as well, but that one wasn’t made with cannons or machine guns attached to it.

In fact, that Drakkar was longer than the average ones. The soldier saw before those Drakkars being a method of public transport in Uppsala, but that one was less robust than the others, probably to increase speed.

On top of that vehicle was a man. He was dressed more like a mechanic than a scientist. He was a Jarl, due to his White mask, so Casper supposed that he wasn’t anybody, but an important person.

"We do all sorts of vehicles here." He jumped from the Drakkar. Because of how high it was in the air, the White warrior thought that the guy would probably break a bone or two when landing, but it wasn’t the case.

That scientist had a metallic backpack on his back, and from there, metallic claws came out, just like the legs of a spider, and prevented that he harmed himself when falling on the ground.

"This remembers me of a villain of a certain hero, but the claws were more like an octopus than a spider..." Casper thought.

The claws gathered inside the backpack again, folding themselves until they have space for it.

"I see that you are quite amazed by the Drakkars here, young man. Can I ask your name?"

"Casper. People here know me as White warrior, too."

The mechanic snapped his fingers.

"Yes! That’s it! Honestly, I supposed so, due to your hair color. Anyway, what are you searching for here?" He had a hasty manner of talk, he seemed like an announcer.

"I am just looking around. I found the work that people are doing here to be pretty interesting ..."

"Hmmm, you have good taste, I see... I like people like you. Well, anyway, what do you think about our work here, at the automobile section?"

The soldier was going to compliment these guys for what they have done. There were a lot of Drakkars here and there, with all sorts of characteristics. However, he saw an opportunity there as well.

"Hmmm... Man... I can be considered a genius, frankly, hehe." He thought triumphantly, smiling slightly.

Upon seeing that smile, the scientist got hopeful about Casper’s opinion about his beloved Drakkars, which he had worked on for so much time. Those things were a symbol of their culture, after all. That was one of the main reasons as to why they weren’t being completely substituted by the Teleporting pads inside the castle.

All the prototypes there would be their new works for that year, so he was working hard to make it seem the most amazing as possible.

"Well, I think you are missing one thing, even though all the rest is amazing..."

"And what is it?"

Casper smirked.

"Have you ever thought about... flying motorcycles?"
