District 42-Chapter 180: Trio of idiots
Casper heard a giggle coming from behind him. He didn’t want to lose his focus on the battle, and he was sure that Leonel was the one giggling, so he didn’t look behind.
"I am wanting to throw these knives in his head. May I? I mean, it will be difficult to fight just with one..." He was really considering that option.
Anyway, after Leonel let a giggle escape, Casper saw that the other three also started to get restless. They were holding something.
"Ok, ok, you bunch of dumbs, let’s stop being kids and act normally, ok? We are a serious organization here!" Leonel clapped his hands, and after this, the trio couldn’t hold anymore and just began to laugh hysterically.
The soldier was so shocked by the outcome that the only thing he could bring himself to do was to stay still at the same place, holding the knives and waiting for them to do something other than just laugh.
As time passed and he couldn’t hold himself anymore, he giggled, embarrassed. Just a short, and unpleased giggle. He came back to a more casual stance, lowering his weapons bit by bit until his arms were dead beside his body.
"What...? Weren’t they supposed to be the strict and severe teachers? What happened to that atmosphere from before? Why before I thought I was in a military school and now in a kindergarten?" Casper got lost for a bit.
Because of his stiff and actions, and shocked expression, also as his weak giggle, the laughs around him became more intense, to the point where one of the Sgails needed to sit on the ground, losing strength on his legs.
The White warrior walked slowly on top of the table, never avoiding his eyes from then, and walking to the other extreme of the table, getting out of it too and putting himself beside Leonel, who was staring at those three individuals just as he would look to kids.
"Hey, Leonel, what kind of idiocy are you showing me here? Why those three can’t stop laughing!?"
Leonel changed his focus, staring at Casper with a mischievous look. It pissed off the soldier, and he gave a step towards the Sgail, wanting to rip him with those knives he got.
"Hey, hey, no! Stop right there. Yes, calm down, man, I am not here to make you troubled or annoyed... Well, it’s not what I am supposed to do, at least, hehe. But now that I am serious with you, listen to me." He pointed his finger to those three, who were still crying with laughter.
"They will be your teachers. They are pretty reliable people and go on a lot of missions so they have plenty of experiences to share. The only bad thing about them is that they are a trio of idiots when they want to. That battle was just for them to look cool and all..."
After all the things he saw walking into that entrance hall, and also throughout his trip inside the corridors and rooms, Casper was definitely expecting something more serious coming from an organization seeming to be so dark like the Sgails. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
The White warrior looked back and forth to them, worried.
"A-are you sure?"
Leonel nodded calmly.
"Yes, I am. You saw their abilities in battle, didn’t you? So, you mustn’t doubt how good they actually are, despite the looks..."
The soldier was ready to go home even before they got started with all of that. He felt that it would be a waste of time to remain there, his head was even becoming achy because of that.
"Just what the heck of organization you got me into, Vick? Is it just those guys the weirdos here, or is there any more of his specimen?" Casper was worrying that he got into a group of idiots there. Competent people, but a bunch of idiots, still.
"Hey, don’t make this face to them. They also have feelings, you know? And, although they are jerks, you will learn how to live with them. They are pretty competent warriors and obey the orders, they just take some things more lightly than others. And for the amount of responsibility and the type of work they have, take things as a joke is easier sometimes."
Once Casper heard that, he got more at ease, even though on the inside he was still willing to leave that place.
However, it wasn’t like in the Yanke Forces there weren’t people like those three. What Leonel said was true, after all; there are certain things we need to do daily that leech our energy and sanity, and we need to find a way to recover from it.
"Okay, then. It’s fine." He shrugged in the end.
Leonel looked satisfied and walked in front to talk with the trio.
"Hey, you three! Stop joking around and line up in front of me, please. We need to talk seriously now before the newbie gets even more nervous than he already is.
Little by little they stopped to laugh, getting up from their chairs, or raising from the ground, and walking in front of Leonel, making a single line.
Stomping their foot on the floor, they put the arms beside the body and gave a warcry, which was a signal of discipline and courage in District 42. Casper saw Ridires doing that before.
"Ok, then, let me show to you three the White warrior, that annoying guy that the Jarls and the Royal family are talking about all the time since he appeared suddenly during the midwest battle." He pointed to Casper.
"As you can see, it’s not a myth, he indeed doesn’t use a mask, his hair is white, and he was locked once in Halden and could leave that place alive and even destroy it."
One of them took off the hood and the black veil covering his mask, showing a light brown hair, that was a bit messed and spiky. His eyes were ones that you would expect to see in a kid of ten years. He didn’t seem to be too old, at least he was at Casper’s age.
"I have something to point about this guy... I mean, you know that news is spreading fast about him and his feats, but those things generally exaggerate a lot. I need to say, though, that the journalists did not make too much hyperbole, the White warrior is as good as they say."
Casper didn’t know if he was happy for being complimented by someone like that guy or not.
Another one took off the hood and the veil. The hair was also messy, and as short as the first Sgail, but that person wasn’t a man. The color of her hair was light brown, just like the other. She had a matured voice, that was somewhat alluring. Her eyes were contemptuous.
"I think he has a lot to improve before he can be a Sgail. First of all, his physical conditioning needs to be worked on. His movements aren’t as fast as they should."
"And I agree with her. He is still lacking some training. And combat alone isn’t going to help him at all. We need to know about the other skills he needs to have."
The last Sgail that talked was also a woman. She had the characteristic light brown hair of the other two, but hers was longer. She seemed to have pretty calm and tender eyes behind the black mask, and she looked at Casper like he was her little brother. She was a bit taller than the other two, while the man was the second taller.
Casper was a bit dumbfounded to see those three without those clothes covering the few features of their faces that the masks allowed to appear. They had differences in height, voice, expressions, and genre as well, but somehow they gave a vibe to be the same, or pretty similar.
"The more I stay in this room, the more confused I get... What’s up with these three people now!?" Casper was getting frustrated because of all that situation happening consecutively.
He was quite sick of surprises on that day, and he was not the type to complain because of light injuries, but his left arm was in pain because of that previous cut.
Leonel took the lead, pointing to each one of them while he made their acquaintance.
"Ok, Casper. Then, here are the new teachers that will help you during your days of preparation here in the Sgail’s Headquarters. The guy here is First, the tiny woman is Second, and the tall one is Third. They are triplets, and they don’t like to be addressed by names, but numbers. I hope you all can get along well and don’t give me headaches during this hellish week you will be going through." Leonel smiled friendly, but the irony behind his words was palpable.
Casper stayed looking at those three, who were staring back with pride, and his mind just went blank as he gave up on understanding things.
