Chapter 175: New work

Vick was pondering for a while what she should do in relation to Casper. She had just two options, and both had their own advantages and disadvantages that she would need to deal with afterward.

"I don’t want to lose control here... I am not willing to let Casper tie our battle here. However, do I have a way to overcome it? And what this guy will do once he meets the Forger? What he wants with one of the most powerful people of this district?"

The Princess needed to stop for a while, the soldier did the same, turning his body to her and staring at her face.

"You still have those injuries, right? Your reward for this should be my help. Also, I cleaned a good part of the mess you did here in your escape from Halden. You are in debt with me."

Casper denied with his head.

"I already solved my issue with this injury myself. And the mess that happened was due to our lack of cooperation, don’t you think so? I mean, I just invaded the Third Lab because I needed information, and the information was there. You let me blindfolded until then, so I needed to act all alone." He shrugged, giving a sarcastic side smile to her.

"What I am doing here and now, Vick, is preventing that something like that comes to happen ever again. If we have cooperation that benefits us both. I will work for you, and I said something important about my real self, and you will just give me the opportunity to talk with someone I want. That’s fair to me."

Vick bit her lips, looking to the side. Suddenly, she felt two times as exhausted as before and wanted to sit somewhere to rest. Her head was so heavy that she could swear that she would not bear her body for much more time.

Casper had a lot of good arguments, and she could not refute facts as well. What she was seeing was a unique opportunity. Even though it had its disadvantages, she could work on it over time.

The problem was to deal with her father afterward. He wouldn’t like the idea of Casper interacting with such a person as the Forger.

She sighed, stretching her arm and offering her hand to Casper.

"Don’t betray me, Casper."

"Sure, I won’t. I have more to gain being with you than fighting, and you know this, Vick." They shook hands.

The Princess stayed looking into space for more time. It was difficult to have her issues with a lot of different people, but Casper was just overwhelming. The White warrior seemed to always be one step further.

"Ok... I will need to let you know more about what’s taking my sleep away from me, then. After all, that’s the thing I wanted you to do, and as your specialty is work as a spy, then it will be reasonable to put you into it."

The soldier got excited about the upcoming events. He would not just keep in touch with the military organization of the district, as he would also be acting in the frontline against the Frelsi. It would be ideal for him.

"Just as I don’t want to give her major details about me, the Princess also won’t do it. That said, we both need to find alternative means to gather information."

The soldier was thinking about how he could deal with the Princess since he met her. After overthinking it for so long, he could make his plans to do so.

Vick said that she was going to show Casper something related to his new work, but for some time, she just continued strolling with him.

The White warrior wanted to get it done as fast as he could, but he didn’t complain either. He knew that he would be working as a slave in the next weeks, so it was a good break for him to spend a bit of time with her.

"It’s been a good while since I don’t feel this way with someone. I mean, find comfort in the presence of an individual. Maybe I am deluding myself because she is just like Ana was... But I don’t want to be thinking about it, otherwise, I will feel guilty."

Casper held her hand, all of a sudden, and they kept walking through that floor until they got to a very far away Teleporting pad and went to the place where he would be getting more details about his work.

...

After passing several minutes walking together, then get that Teleporting pad, Vick brought Casper to another floor.

It was somewhere that Casper never heard about before. It was a place where military activities would take part, but no one could be seen doing anything there. It was a desert place.

"We are now on the lastest floor. I think you have never been here before, right?" She supposed that he didn’t, but Casper was a surprise box. She wouldn’t be admired if he already had searched all that floor.

"Well... Yeah, I have never been here once... To be honest, just the most important floors were worth of visit for me, so this one was not exactly what I aimed for in the past."

Vick had just taken good information. Apparently, Casper had, indeed, visited a lot of places inside the Castle. Even though she would have discovered it by searching the data gathered in the Teleporting pads, it was still something good. Less work to do, in short.

She guided him to a building placed in the center of that huge complex constructed in the middle of the floor.

Casper knew that every military complex in the Castle was about the same: there were the training grounds; a huge building destined for Healers; another two or three that served for lecturing of different things, but mainly related to the art of war; there was a huge center of operations in the center, where most of the work would be done, it was called as Headquarters as well; besides it, other constructions here and there for multiple objectives.

"They have a good structure here..." The White warrior was staring at the building that they would be entering soon. It wasn’t too good looking, as its facade was completely messed, but the Headquarters that it was before should have been really grandiose.

"They have a so modern way to build and organize things... But their culture doesn’t let them get rid of certain habits and standards..." It was somewhat amazing and confusing to see a society based in an old culture, yet with high technology.

"We will be talking about what will happen inside here. Is it okay for you?" Vick pointed to the building, looking at Casper, concerned.

The White warrior had stopped to walk since he saw entirely the facade of that place, and he didn’t want to enter that place at all. His instincts were warning him to not do so.

It was a closed structure, without too much space to fight, nor a lot of escape routes. He didn’t know why that plan couldn’t be discussed in another location as well, since the Princess didn’t say to him anything more about that matter.

With all those points, Casper could not bring himself to not be suspicious about it.

"Relax. Your mask is in another place, and you have your knife with you as well. There is nothing much to worry about. Just stay alert and react to whatever that comes."

The soldier got ready, then began to walk again, nodding to the Princess and facing the entrance of that place.

Vick was still a bit worried, but she couldn’t just keep acting as Casper was a kid. The best choice was to let him be and let the soldier fighting alone with his traumas. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

They entered that place. The building had eight floors, and it was composed of various doors and corridors, interconnected, that lead to different paths.

It was dark inside there, and the silver bracelet that Vick always carried with her was shining in her forearm, making things a bit brighter.

"Talking about it, I never asked Vick about that shield she had. That thing seemed to be very powerful. It was just crazy." He looked intently at that thing, remembering all of a sudden that Vick wasn’t someone to mess up with.

Casper decided to keep this question for another time, following her quietly.

They finally arrived at a room right on the first floor. It was kind of a hidden room.

They entered there. He let Vick enter first, just to be sure.

Inside that room was a round table and other furniture that didn’t outstand too much.

Someone was in that room. A man with 180cm of height, that had a skinny body build and eyes that made Casper wonder if he was there to joke around or something.

"White warrior, I need to present to you this man here. He is from Sgail, a secret organization inside the military fields of District 42. He will be your coworker starting today!"
