Chapter 36: [Quest Completed]

Clara showed an interest in games.

Every gamer dreams of sharing their passion with others someday.

Noa had Hana.

The little girl liked playing with him, and it was one of the best experiences ever. But someone else was also willing to do the same—someone who wasn’t even his family member.

That’s why Noa eyed the woman for a moment.

"What do you mean?" he asked, curious to hear her answer. "Why would you want to play games? Have you ever done that before?"

Clara chuckled at his questions.

It felt like an interrogation, but seeing how passionate Noa suddenly became, her desire to play with him grew even deeper.

"...You make it sound so interesting. Of course, I want to try them," she said, still smiling. "And who in this day and age hasn’t played a video game before?"

Noa lowered his brow.

He looked skeptical. "Yeah? Like what?"

Without shifting her expression, Clara showed confidence. "I have games on my phone. Homescapes is one of my favorites."

She sounded weirdly smug about it.

As for the game itself, Noa had no idea what she was talking about. Phone gaming didn’t really sit well with him, to begin with.

So he struggled to suppress his hunger as the steak released a rich, tempting aroma that filled the air and searched for the name Homescapes.

The moment he did, his eyes widened.

"What’s wrong?" Clara asked. She, too, hadn’t touched the food. "Have you played it before?"

Noa, meanwhile, was pinching the bridge of his nose. "Don’t tell me you downloaded them from the ads?"

The woman nodded, not sure what the problem was.

Noa chuckled at her innocent expression. "We might really have to play something. You are hopeless. Don’t tell me you are a Candypush enjoyer as well."

Clara nodded again. "I love that game. What’s wrong with that?"

Fighting the urge to facepalm himself, Noa looked back at his plate. The longer he stalled, the hungrier he became. "I don’t want you to protest when I call you a MILF ever again," he said softly, trying not to hurt her feelings.

She wasn’t dumb.

Though she didn’t know much about gaming, she had a basic understanding of how deep it actually went.

It was one of the most profitable forms of media for a reason.

So she decided to leave it up to the professional and didn’t think too much about it.

Then they both dug in.

"...Mmm. Just as good as I remember," Clara murmured, savoring each bite.

Noa chewed carefully as if afraid the meat would escape from his mouth. It was perfection. Dripping with a mix of citrus and meat juice, the taste was heavenly.

He couldn’t speak.

There was no time to spend on that.

Instead, he nodded in approval and drank wine to enhance the flavor.

It was a relaxing experience. ’I have to bring Hana here sometime,’ he thought, dabbing his lips with a napkin after cleaning the plate.

"I don’t need to ask, right?" Clara asked. "Your face already shows it."

Noa didn’t hold back. "It was amazing. I felt like I could fly, reach, and even eat the stars."

The woman giggled at his description.

Then she reached for her purse and settled the bill. She did it without hesitation, but Noa still had no idea how much the meal cost.

Before leaving the restaurant, she slid her hand into Noa’s arm again, doing it more smoothly than before.

As they stepped outside, the sun still shone sharply.

It was 12 in the morning—two hours before Hana’s school would end.

Noa was about to open the passenger door of his car when Clara stopped him, her eyes hiding intent. "So..." she began, standing still. "Where can we play the games you love so much?"

Noa blinked, surprised. "Right now?"

He hadn’t expected Clara’s sudden interest in games. The conversation they had felt like a promise for the future—the kind that never really worked out and was used for casual politeness.

However, the woman was direct with her wishes.

And honestly, he had no idea what to do with her.

Clara tilted her head in confusion. "Why not? You don’t have time? You convinced me to explore the mysterious worlds you spoke of, and now you want to keep me hanging? I didn’t think you were this kind of man."

She spoke with exaggerated dramatization.

Of course, she was joking—teasing Noa playfully.

But it wasn’t like she pretended to be interested in games, either, and Noa saw that.

He sighed and opened the door for her. "Alright. But please don’t blame me and don’t rage quit when you struggle with the tutorial."

"Oh, please," Clara exclaimed, sliding into the seat. "I am not that weak-willed."

"We will see about that," Noa answered and drove off.

He had a location in mind. What’s more, he also wanted to buy a PC anyway, and going into an electronics store was a win for him.

The ride wasn’t long, barely 15 minutes.

Yet each time Noa glanced at her, his thoughts kept drifting apart.

When he called her to arrange the meeting, he never imagined it would lead to this. It was safe to say that Clara was his first friend in his adult life, and he enjoyed being around her.

That might be why they grew close so quickly.

She was silent nearly the entire ride.

All she did was glance at him as if trying to guess what he was planning. "Where are we going?" she asked finally when her curiosity won over her patience.

Noa kept her in the dark, not answering her question.

When the car turned into an underground parking lot, she blinked.

The store Noa selected was a sprawling building with a neon logo, Techworld, glowing on it. It was one of the biggest tech shops in the city, and Noa always wanted to visit it.

"So this is the place you were talking about," Clara said suddenly.

But there was something off about her voice.

She no longer sounded excited.

"What’s wrong?" Noa asked, noticing her conflicting emotions.

Clara brushed her hair back and smiled faintly. "...My brother. He owns this place."

As if waiting for this declaration, the system panel flickered right before Noa’s eyes, not giving him time to digest her words.
