Dimensional Hotel-Chapter 532: Life Is Short
Yu Sheng wasn’t sure what to make of the "puppet" before him that looked so much like Erin—his instinctive first reaction was naturally "Omen Goddess," but when the puppet spoke, he indisputably detected Erin’s aura from it. That familiarity was unmistakable.
She might still be some sort of "hybrid," a kind of hybrid dominated by the "Omen Goddess," but without a complete personality. Considering the complex circumstances surrounding the puppet, he decided not to delve into these details for the time being.
Realizing that this shadow-like puppet seemed somewhat dazed, Yu Sheng decided to follow her words and asked, "What is the Sanctuary?"
"The Sanctuary... is the Sanctuary," the puppet said slowly, in stark contrast to her usual chattering, rapid manner. "They said I could build a city or something else from the ashes, a civilization that could last for centuries. They said... living is hope, even if the end is inevitable..."
Yu Sheng was a bit bewildered for a moment: "They want the symbol of the ’omen’ to bear the responsibility of continuing civilization?"
The puppet stared at him, then slowly lowered her head after a long while, looking at the notebook without moving: "Omen is their fear, and it’s also their understanding and perception of the world. They have no choice."
Yu Sheng was startled, probing further, "There’s something called the ’World Bridge’... do you remember it?"
The puppet thought dully, and after a long time, gently shook her head: "I don’t remember."
"Then what about the Boundary Land? And a golden-haired puppet named ’Erin’..."
"I don’t remember those either."
"What about ’Black Star’..."
It seemed that no matter what he asked, the puppet remembered none of it.
After trying multiple questions repeatedly, Yu Sheng realized that this puppet, who looked similar to Erin, seemed to only recall an apocalypse she couldn’t understand and a mission to calculate the "activation equation" for some "Sanctuary." She was endlessly cycling through this task, forgetting everything else.
"Then what do you remember?" Yu Sheng couldn’t help but ask.
The shadow-like puppet once again pondered dully, her scarlet eyes flickering in the darkness. Then she finally made a move—the puppet lowered her head and clumsily wrote two words in the notebook with a pencil.
"Yu Sheng"
"Yu-Sheng," she said slowly, a face shrouded in dim shadows seemingly showing a slight smile, "When Yu Sheng goes home, everything will be alright."
Yu Sheng: "...?"
He was momentarily bewildered, then saw the puppet suddenly remember something else, slowly writing further in the notebook—
"Silly fox... when the weather gets cold, she’ll be fluffy, C-type clasp, a sweeping robot, the sunlight is warm, kids will be noisy, leaves are... green, the little river flows through the valley, into the Black Forest, the wind... the wind can’t be caught, but the wind will catch me."
She raised her head, smiling joyfully. However, just as Yu Sheng was momentarily distracted by this, that lively and clear expression faded from the puppet’s face. Her features once again shrouded in shadows, leaving only a pair of scarlet eyes glinting in the darkness.
"Do you want to go over there?" she suddenly raised her hand, pointing at the door leading to the laboratory.
"...What’s on the other side of that door?" Yu Sheng felt an impulse, not knowing why he asked such a question.
"The road home." The puppet said while looking into Yu Sheng’s eyes.
The aura similar to Erin was gradually dissipating from her.
Yu Sheng hesitated for a moment, then turned to press his hand against the gate—the door opened silently.
"What are you going to do next..."
He turned back to the spot where the puppet squatted earlier; his words trailed off abruptly.
The place was empty, the puppet had long since vanished—almost as if she had never existed in the first place.
Yu Sheng stood there in a daze for a couple of seconds, frowning as he contemplated many questions, then finally turned and walked into the hall.
It was still that familiar "Black Spot Laboratory," but it was no longer the bright place he remembered. A dim quality, as if shrouded by black gauze, covered his vision. A pitch-black, shapeless mass floated in the center of the hall, pulsing and writhing in mid-air, countless black spider silks extending from the mass, interweaving in the entire hall, forming a web that enveloped everything.
Under the dimness and web were countless human-shaped shadows, projections from the real world blindly swaying in this dimensional crevice, emitting various buzzing noises that resonated, as if they were drilling into one’s mind, clamoring incessantly.
These were the voices of the Star Scholars thinking—knowledge deviating from normalcy howled and trembled in their thoughts, impacting the fragile boundary of reality here, attempting to manifest into the observable universe.
But there was one shadow that was very special.
That shadow stood beside the pitch-black mass in the center of the hall, looking tall and slender, more substantial than all the surrounding illusions, even shining with a certain... intense presence in Yu Sheng’s spiritual intuition.
He didn’t make any noise, but was purely listening and thinking, as if communicating with that dark mass.
Yu Sheng saw black spider silk strands extending from the dark mass, winding alone around the tall and slender figure, and a vague small shadow clinging to the tall figure’s back, like a spirit at its back, poking the other’s head with its fingers while swaying side to side and making lots of impolite noises.
Many people’s close relatives rose up to the sky in that whisper, blossomed brilliantly, then scattered like fireworks.
Yu Sheng was dumbfounded, feeling that the atmosphere switch caught him off guard. Then, before he could react, he saw that phantom-like blurry small shadow suddenly turn its head this way — almost instantaneously, the shadow solidified somewhat, then happily and surprisingly said, "Ah— Yu Sheng?!"
The next second, that little thing jumped off the tall figure’s shoulder, quickly climbing towards Yu Sheng using both hands and feet along several spider silk strands. When it was still two or three meters away, it directly sprang forward: "Yu Sheng~ you’re finally alive! This time you were dead for so long..."
Yu Sheng felt something solidly hit his chest, followed by a dizzying spin of the sky and earth, bone-chilling cold that seeped into the marrow, and a vertigo as tumultuous as being thrown into a whirlpool in the icy ocean for three hours and then tossed into the stratosphere for free-fall. On the spot, he felt like dying again — and this feeling was not unfamiliar to him.
It was a "Rude Awakening," Erin’s unique wake-up technique.
The next second, that dark dimension covered with spider web silently collapsed, the vivid colors and sounds of the real world flooded in like a tide, Yu Sheng staggered, the colorful specks in front of his eyes quickly turned into a clear view.
A somewhat familiar, beautiful, golden-haired Elf sister was standing not far away, staring wide-eyed at this side — several metal limbs connected behind her, mechanical limbs like wheels extending from the skirt of her lower body.
A large group of obviously frightened technical staff and elite combatants, looking like guards, stood nearby.
Yu Sheng reacted, finally recalling what the familiarity the golden-haired Elf opposite brought to him was about — it was that Elf Mechanic he’d seen long ago when testing the door-opening ability!
She actually appeared here?!
And before Yu Sheng could think more, the golden-haired Elf opposite clearly recognized the intruder before her. Her eyes widened instantly, followed by a sharp intake of breath, as she pointed at Yu Sheng, practically spitting out the words through clenched teeth: "Why is it you again?! How did you get in?!"
"See the trouble this caused," Yu Sheng, still not fully over the aftereffects of the "Rude Awakening," dizzily waving his hands while trying hard to maintain balance, speaking without thinking, "If I knew you were on the other side, I wouldn’t have bothered..."
Before he finished speaking, the surrounding security personnel had already surged over — the people in the laboratory didn’t remember they’d already killed this intruder once before, but clearly, this mysteriously appearing individual in the core zone was a huge threat to the laboratory.
Guns were pointed at Yu Sheng’s face straight away.
"Catch him alive!" the golden-haired Elf quickly shouted.
An intruder who could "intrude" into her secret base repeatedly couldn’t just be mindlessly killed — it was undoubtedly a rare research subject!
"Don’t say, you really shouldn’t say," Yu Sheng couldn’t help but laugh when he heard what she said, "There’s potential this time..."
But the next moment, he opened a door beside him, took out a Wolf Fang Club filled with justice and reason. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Unfortunately, I’ve got something else to take care of first," he grinned, striding forward, "Don’t worry, it’ll be quick — we’ll meet again."
Under the stunned gaze of the security personnel and the golden-haired Elf, the intruder seemed to ignore the deadly threats surrounding him, took a few exaggerated, accelerating steps, and jumped straight at — the Zolda Black Stone at the center of the laboratory.
Appearing out of nowhere, extremely fast, incredibly powerful, a deep pit was stepped into the laboratory’s reinforced alloy ground — not human!
The soldiers instantly made their judgment, their initial plan to capture the intruder non-lethally was swiftly abandoned, and they decisively pulled the trigger.
Yu Sheng’s thought process, however, was simple.
He knew it was impossible to rush to the golden-haired Elf or the "Black Stone" with so many people tightly guarding it, at least not alive.
But the distance wasn’t too far, and he could at least try with brute force.
After all, if brute force doesn’t work, there’s not much loss — death will claim its price.
The God of War leaps.
The God of War rests.
"Erin..." a voice crossed the vast space-time, echoing in the mental connection.
"What?"
"This life is truly short."
"...Ah?! Wait, Yu Sheng, how are you dead again?! You just came to life two minutes ago!"
"..."
