Descending Into A Novel-Chapter 40:New Disguise
His unique signature of mana was slowly reawakening. No longer would he have to resort to the regular non-signatured mana that he absorbed.
Even if it was high quality mana, suitable for every type of spell. Raymond would choose to have his two dimension and time attributed mana in a heartbeat.
He might suffer a loss of efficiency and strength whenever he casted a spell that wasn’t dimension or time based but it was worth it.
Letting out a long breath, he slowly opened his eyes. Raising his left hand, he controlled some of his mana to leave his body.
Like two small streams of water, his two different mana flowed out from his fingertips. Weaving intricate patterns in the air from his control.
The deep shade of purple and the golden amber made for a beautiful sight. It was a shame he would have to hide one of them, awakened forming a new type of mana core was relatively normal. Rare but normal, forming two new types was unheard of.
He quietly pumped his fist in the air, he didn’t want to open the system to check but he could tell a significant amount of his stats had returned to him as well.
Laying down on the ground, he turned his head to the pile.
Originally it was around the size of a small vehicle, after Raymond’s absorbing spree. There was only a few small items left.
’Better then I thought.’
He was quite surprised that he didn’t need to use it all. He was mentally prepared for the worst case scenario where he would have to tap into the other two piles for more mana. Now he would have extra for his other two projects.
That meant he was probably pretty close to naturally reactivating his cores already. With only a few more months at most.
He felt his entire body suddenly twitch and shake. His hair itching and his muscles seizing.
Quickly sitting up, he removed his ring from his left pinky and tossed it far away. The small gold ring with his disguise ring was created with face morph which was a fourth circle spell he had to heavily modify.
Right now, he could see the engraving continuously flickering. Struggling to maintain its morph on Raymond who had suddenly become way stronger.
With a bright flash a small pop, the ring exploded—leaving a small burnt spot on the training hall floor.
But Raymond didn’t care about that right now. He keeled over, his heart beating fast. Sweat pouring from his head as he clenched his teeth.
With the ring removed and destroyed, the morph spell which kept Raymond in disguise was now gone. His body now reverting to its original form to when he was seventeen.
He screamed in his head, he was mentally prepared for this feeling yet perhaps the absence of pain in his life had caused it to feel so much more intense this time!
After a grueling session, it finally stopped. It was only a few minutes yet Raymond felt as if it lasted for several hours instead!
Panting, he summoned a water mirror. Gazing at himself in the reflection.
He had almost forgotten what he looked like, it was only two years apart but the difference was almost night and day.
His face was more defined, his bones sharper and slightly more prominent. His eyes appeared more mature, enhancing his overall facial harmony.
Compared to his current self, they looked more like two brothers rather then himself in only two years.
’Puberty hits like a truck.’
It was only for two more years, two more years then he could rid himself of the disguise forever. Ever since he became the perfect human, his bodily age had regressed to when he was seventeen and had stayed like that.
He could purposefully age himself up, but he couldn’t age himself down which was why he was just stayed as he was. What if he regretted aging up one day?
Groaning, he scooted himself over to the second pile. Picking up a small ring, he summoned his staff—something he hadn’t done in a long long time.
Running his hands over the staff, it slowly shifted into its needle form. Carefully holding it in his right hand, he got into a comfortable seating position and begun his work.
His wooden needle carefully scratching a design into the ring.
It was the same engraving as previously, Raymond was just strengthening it and improving its capabilities.
It already worked well enough, there was no need to change it too much.
In the end, he was left with a ring that looked remarkably similar to the one that just exploded.
It’s patterns hummed slightly. Luckily engraving was very different from casting,
Rather then casting, which required him to use his own mana. Engraving let him use ambient mana.
This made it so that most engravers didn’t actually need to be able to cast spells. If they had the resources they could engrave whatever their skills allowed then to.
Quickly finishing the two engravings on the outside and inside, he slipped it back onto his left pinky.
Steeling himself, he channeled his mana through the ring.
"Urkkh-!"
He groaned, pain was always a horrible thing to go through.
Biting his lips to the point it bled, he clenched his fists—drawing blood from his palms.
He tried to think of other things for the next few minutes. Ice cream, pain, Ellen, his first club meetings.
Fortunately, the morph didn’t need to do much. It was only reversing his body age by two years.
Compared to before when he reversed it to when he was ten, it was a shorter amount of time.
Panting, he laid down on the ground. His body sweaty and his muscles sore and tired.
He contemplated just sleeping on the floor, but then he remembered how comfortable his bed was.
Using the last of his energy, he used his brute force telekinesis to bring his phone over to him.
Dialling the number, he waited for her to pick up.
"Hello?"
His voice was hoarse, "Ellen...come pick me up..."
She ended the call.
Raymond felt slightly worried for a bit, what if she just didn’t care?
He would probably be extra sore in the morning from sleeping on the hare floor.
His worries were quickly erased as he heard the door to the training hall open, Ellen striding in towards him.
She stood over him for a bit, "You look and smell horrible."
"I did this for you, can’t you be grateful this one time?"
Sighing, she bent down and scooped him up with her hands. Carrying him princess style.
Relaxing in her grasp, he had to fight his tiredness to not immediately fall asleep. He felt drunk, his thinking was slow and his thoughts irrational.
The vibrations from her walking caused his drowsiness to fade away slightly.
"Can’t you be more gentle at least...? And why carry me like this?", he asked. The annoyance in his voice clear as day.
"Why is the master carrying her shadow in the first place? Shouldn’t it be you taking care of me, why is it the other way around?"
Despite her grumbling, she walked slower. Careful not to disrupt him too much.
He slowly tilted his head, letting him see the night sky.
The night sky was completely free from clouds, revealing the full moon in all its glory.
Stars dotted the sky everywhere creating a beautiful picturesque feast for the eyes.
Where he lived on Earth experienced tons of light pollution, if he wanted to see the stars he would have to go out of the city in order to see them.
He felt it was a shame, Earth was filled with so many beautiful sights as well. But he spent most of his time there in the city.
He mentally added another item on his list. When he visited Earth again, he would travel and go sightseeing.
The sight made him nostalgic, when was the last time he had ever stopped to see the sights like this?
"Beautiful..."
"...hmm?", her eyes widened slightly.
"The stars are so beautiful tonight..."
"Ah, I guess so."
Ellen stopped and looked up as well, admiring the night sky.
She adjusted her hold on Raymond. Preventing him from slipping.
He could feel his own brain slowly shutting down already.
His eyelids felt heavy, seeing her bare arm. Without thinking he reached out his hand and-
pinched it.
Despite how strong she was her arm was fair and slender. And most importantly, soft like a marshmallow.
"So soft..."
She raised an eyebrow at him, but he had already fallen asleep.
His body went limp in her arms, his breathing steady and slow—his chest rising and falling gently with each breath.
Sleeping so peacefully like this, it was hard to believe he was probably the strongest individual the world had ever seen.
Seeing him sleeping, she poked his cheek lightly—as a slight payback for him pinching her.
He reacted even in his sleep, his face frowning slightly at her touch.
"...leave me alone...William..."
