Demon's Virtue-Chapter 793: The Humans’ Classes
"Just take it slow and you'll get used to it in no time, alright?" Eiro told the woodcutter in front of him. After an injury a few years ago, his thumb had been severly injured, and afterward, the bone didn't heal quite right. It was like the thumb's joints were skipped and the individual pieces of bone healed together. He was barely able to work anymore, and had changed the way that he used his axe in a way that ended up just hurting his other fingers. Sadly, it had been too long for Eiro to 'save' this through surgery, for example by re-breaking the bone and healing it differently. The woodcutter's soul was already adapted to the new thumb far too much.
However, Eiro could somewhat trick the man's soul by replacing the thumb with a prosthetic. Even if the man's soul wasn't quite right, his mind still remembered what it was like to use the thumb, even if it had to be retrained. After a while, the soul would return back to its normal shape. Luckily, after seeing how everyone else was helped by him, most people didn't quite mind being treated and even having parts of their bodies replaced by prosthetics. This was especially the case after they realized that one of Eiro's own hands was made of wood the same way that theirs would be.
Of course, he made it clear that they wouldn't be able to use these new limbs the way that Eiro could use his own prosthetic hand, but he also made it doubly clear that the prosthetic would be an extreme improvement over whatever situation they were dealing with before.
"Aye, sire. Uhm... d'ya think it'll be fine with me new class?" the woodcutter asked, and the demon immediately nodded his head.
"Oh, yes, of course, there should be no issue there at all. The woodcutter class comes with the 'Woodfelling' ability. Basically, it just makes wood give way more easily when you hit it with the correct tool. Whether it's a saw or an axe. You don't need to do anything different than you used to. While you get used to your new thumb, just try to get back to the same workspeed that you had before just now, focusing on holding your axe the right way. And then, start properly engaging with your new ability bit by bit," the demon stood up from his seat, "It's not a sprint. You don't need to rush this."
The woodcutter looked down at his new hand, "Uh... and it-"
"No, you don't need to be particularly careful with your prosthetic because of that ability. The wood is actually more sturdy than the rest of your body should be. Plus, the ability is activated with your intention. So as long as you don't try to chop off your prosthetic thumb with an axe on purpose, you're totally fine."
Relieved, the woodcutter went on his way, actually showing his new thumb off to his wife who had been eagerly waiting. At this point, the humans didn't just come to Eiro for help with healing or injuries, but when they noticed that he was also giving advice about classes and the abilities that came with them, they came over to him to try and get help for that. And of course, Eiro could help easily. He knew everything there was to be known about basically every class there was. The academy library had tons of extremely rare tomes. Frankly, Eiro doubted he would learn about a ton of new classes even if he got into the tower of books of this plane of existence. There were probably some rare, unique, or legendary classes that he could learn of through the tower, but the sort that the people here could get were things that Eiro knew almost every detail about.

"Yes, while the farmer class comes with an ability that helps you figure out the quality of the soil and what you need to do to improve that quality, you need to have the actual base-knowledge for this. It doesn't provide the information to you, it just tells you what part of your given knowledge you can apply," Eiro explained, "I made sure that the town library has a few books related to this topic. Please go and check them out if you can. If you cannot read, please gather around someone that can read that could help you with the process until you were able to take the time to become literate."
The moment Eiro said this, he realized that some of the humans were a little nervous and uncomfortable. He let out a slight, suppressed sigh. He really needed to make sure that the education system in this town improved. Basically, allowing the people and monsters here to learn whatever they wanted to. For that, there not only needed to be an improvement to the library, but also some kind of school. There were a lot more things that needed to be done for that, though.
Transporting a large amount of books like that definitely wasn't easy, nor was it cheap. At the very least, there were a few individuals here in town that Eiro was sure would be able to teach when it came down to it, especially if Eiro raised and guided them toward those positions. But that meant that he would basically have to teach a couple of them how to teach, which would take time in itself for it to actually catch on with them. Of course, the 'teaching' skill would be unlocked at some point, but that was something that they could only get their hands on after they started actually teaching. And Eiro couldn't be here to observe and guide them doing that all the time. It was a challenge, but he would figure it out.
"Don't worry, we'll make sure that someone helps you out," Eiro said, trying to calm the farmers down. He continued on, trying to talk to the other groups that had gathered in their classes about what they could be doing to actually make use of their new abilities and to upgrade them, when the demon came to a particular group made up of those that only had a few particular individuals of each.
They tended to be young ones. Sixteen, seventeen, maybe in their very early twenties. Those where their talents and passions still were stronger than the habits that had been built up by years and years of long, hard work. Just as things like injuries changed the shape of the soul, so did habits. Talents could change over time if one worked steady and hard enough at it. Most of the time, that was because they had no other choice, though.
But in the case of these guys, it was different. The classes they chose were things that wouldn't have been directly useful in their old home, but could be made use of extremely well right here. Artists of different sorts, warriors, and even a couple of magic classes. Eiro had encouraged everyone to pick the class they felt most drawn to out of all of the ones that were available to them, so this was why it ended up like this. Since passion and talent tended to overlap, when following their gut, people tended to pick the class they were most talented in.
"Okay. You guys will have to walk slightly different paths. I want you to leave this settlement," the demon said, though he quickly saw the panicked expressions on their faces, "And don't worry, I'm talking about this small human settlement, not the town. I want you to join the groups that are related to your classes. I will make sure that you're assigned to groups with milder and friendlier folks, don't worry, but your talents will be made use of in much better ways over there than you could do it here on your own. You don't have to live with them if you don't want to. You may just have to commute. But as long as you're there when your troop leader tells you to be there, you can live wherever you want."
It seemed as though everyone was fine with that solution. There were already a few other humans that moved further into the town, living right with the monsters, and they seemed to be quite happy whenever they came back for a visit. The same should be the case with these guys.
And as Eiro was mentally planning where to bring each of them, Marius came up to him, with a deeply genuine smile on his face. It was the first smile of his that Eiro had seen that wasn't painfully forced on.
