Chapter 107: Results

"I’m sure you all tried your best, and your scores reflect that. Now, I will list your rankings and at the same time assign your room numbers, from best to worst..."

"First place, Lia Woldern. Second place, Flor Wahraid. Third place, Akio Keshiru. Fourth place, Cru Enirt. Fifth place, Rey Zveroi..." the old man began to list.

He continued gradually until he reached Flain, who ended up in 29th place, and Itai, who finished in 55th. Flain expected to place worse, but it looked like his excellent performance in the first phase had carried him. Itai’s placement also wasn’t the worst.

But what surprised Flain the most was that Flor placed second. When he thought about it, he didn’t even know why it surprised him so much. Even though he hadn’t seen him fight yet, he still assumed Flor would be very strong, and his intelligence had no equal. It shouldn’t have surprised Flain if he had placed first.

When the old man finished announcing the names, keys appeared in everyone’s hands, showing their room number.

Loud chatter broke out throughout the academy. Many students were clearly unhappy — some planned to complain to their parents at the first opportunity, saying it wasn’t fair, and others were deeply afraid of what their parents would say and how disappointed they would be.

"Of course, if you’re unhappy with your rooms, you can fight for a better one. The only rule is that you may only challenge someone whose room number is exactly one better than yours. The headmaster has already told you how official duels work, but I’ll repeat it just to be sure. The challenger must challenge the opponent, and the opponent must accept. In such a case, the challenger challenges the person with the room number one above theirs."

"However, the challenger must also wager something, and the opponent must agree to it. If the challenger or the opponent loses, they must give their wagered item to the winner. Each student can only have one official duel every 2 days." the old man paused, silencing the noise.

When the students heard this again, they naturally already knew they could fight for a better room — but hearing it stated so clearly somehow made it feel more satisfying.

Still, not everyone was pleased, such as Flain.

’So I’ll have to fight 27 people before I can challenge Lia for the best room?! That’s annoying. I wanted to challenge her right after a week when it’s safe to stop hiding my power,’ Flain muttered to himself in his mind.

The students then slowly began gathering at the back part of the garden. Flain arrived in front of the house with the number 29 engraved in gold on the wall.

It was a large white house with a few golden decorations. It felt luxurious — far more luxurious than Flain’s villa. At the front, there was a small garden with a bench. The roof was made of black stone.

Flain honestly didn’t care that much about the appearance. What mattered most to him was the mana density. He’d gladly live in an old, moldy shack if it had the highest mana concentration.

It wasn’t that Flain didn’t like a luxurious environment worthy of his residence, but right now, Flain was fixated on power, which was his number one priority.

Flain began to open the door. The door was made of black wood, with golden corners on each side, and the handle was also golden.

The door successfully opened, and Flain stepped inside. In front of him stood two people who were already in his house. It was an older man and a young girl.

"Welcome, my lord. We are the servants of this room. Your every command is our priority," they both said at the same time.

Flain thought it was a nuisance. He didn’t need servants who weren’t entirely his and weren’t 100% loyal to him. He also assumed that each room had different servants, meaning they would change with every new room.

"Fine, I don’t need you at the moment, so go away," Flain muttered, irritated.

The servants left, and with his Stage 3 hearing, Flain heard them go behind the house and then underneath it. So they even lived below him — meaning Flain couldn’t feel safe anywhere.

Flain then started inspecting the room. There was a beautiful, luxurious bed, a nightstand, a red carpet, and other pieces of furniture. Above, there hung a large golden chandelier that looked as if it had hundreds of lights on it.

There was also a bathroom with a large black-and-gold bathtub and a huge mirror. Flain was more than satisfied with the room, even though he wouldn’t use most of the things in it.

After that month, Flain also planned to reveal Ivy and Aran as part of his abilities. Why would Flain want that? Isn’t it far too risky?

The answer is that Flain wanted to hide it behind something else — he wouldn’t reveal that they were his slaves with enslaved souls. It occurred to him that he could disguise them as Summons.

Summons were a type of innate ability that people in Flain’s original world could receive. It involved summoning various creatures or elements that fought with or for the user.

Flain wanted to find out whether something similar existed in this world, and if so, it could serve as a very convincing false explanation for their origin.

Flain wondered how to find out. He doubted Itai would know, because although he liked magic and was talented in it, he didn’t know much about it — simply because he had no way of learning. He only knew something about necromancy and the bare minimum about ice magic.

Flor, however, was quite a good option. Flain would say that he acquired the ability to summon monsters, and based on his reaction, he should be able to tell whether summons existed here.

Flain would wait until tomorrow to ask him. It was getting dark outside anyway, and night was slowly approaching. Flain was planning to train all night, but he heard something.

Flain gained 180 EXP per hour, which was slightly more than in his villa.

Someone knocked on the door. Flain snorted and went to open it. Standing in the doorway were his two servants, each holding a tray.

"Master, we have brought you dinner. Since you didn’t tell us when or what to bring, I thought now would be a suitable time. We also inform you that lessons begin tomorrow at 9 a.m., so if you’re not awake by then, I will come wake you," the man said respectfully.

Flain looked at them coldly...
