Demon Tamer's Ascension-Chapter 11: Adoff
Mana Cores are directly associated with an individual’s rank, which is what gives them a proper title, ranging from ’Initiate’, which is F-Rank, all the way to ’Anamoly’, which is Ex-Rank, and the highest ever calculated on Ashtar.
Though these simple aspects didn’t define how powerful the beast one can tame, which is why Alex was kept in the Thorn household, up until the bitter end of what now seemed less of a reality, but more so a dream.
"Victor, can you explain these ’evolutionary pathways’?" Alex asked, curious.
"Sorry, no can do."
"You’re actually a good-for-nothing powerhouse, kind of annoying if you ask me."
"Well, it’s not my fault you missed the rules."
"Yeah, yeah," Alex swung his hand in the air, "I’ll just take a guess and assume my beast can evolve." His grin widened, "So, while others maintain their beast rank, mine can evolve."
This fact enlightened him, ’How powerful can I even become?’ He wondered, ’But I shouldn’t let my arrogance get too ahead of me, I only won against Miro back there because of that [Legendary Ability].’
"It’s like 1 in the morning, when are you going to sleep, bro?"
"Right after this."
Without further, Alex slightly lifted his arm in the air, then thought of one command.
----------------------
[Want Him To Appear?]
└ Yes or No?
[Yes!]
----------------------
In that instant, grey and white particles began forming in front of his lap. His status screen slowly disappeared, and soon the only thing left before him was the same creature he had tamed.
The Grey-Wolf.
Alex touched it weirdly, and the wolf stayed respectful; both of them smiled.
"Where is the bitch that killed my mother?"
...
’What?’
"Victor," Alex called out, "What are you talking about?" he nervously sneered.
"Me?" Victor chuckled, "That wasn’t me."
And then the moment of realization dawned upon Alex’s face, and he had finally noticed the situation he was in, but couldn’t utter the words to say it.
"The person who just spoke..."
Alex’s breath became heavy, and he ran a hand through his luxurious hair.
"The person who spoke was the creature that is now standing before you, the Grey-Wolf."
He had already known this upon its first words, but didn’t know how to take in the information. He then paused, ’Guess I’ll have to play it out.’
The wolf spoke without its mouth widening and closing, which made one fact obvious. Now, it wasn’t simply Victor who could speak telepathically; it would be any beast he was able to contract with.
Alex’s expression darkened, as if these words would mean something to him.
"So then, tell me."
The wolf’s eyes widened, slowly approaching Alex’s face, as he breathed calmly.
"I don’t know, but we’ll chase him, into the bitter end, together." Alex lied.
The wolf let out a breath of fresh air, "This contract between us will be temporary, just a mutual agreement until I reach that goal. And now, I’ll give you the honor of naming me."
It stood proud on Alex’s belly, ’Does this guy think he’s a high degree aristocrat?’ Alex thought, ’Whatever, I’ll play with the act.’
"Give me a moment to think."
"Good," The wolf’s voice rang through Alex’s head, "Better take time in naming a creature like myself."
For one, Alex didn’t know that contractual agreements could be torn apart, but he didn’t want to think too deeply about that. Right now, he had something more important to do. He had to name the creature.
He tapped his jaw, trying to think of a good and catchy name, something he could call out anytime without feeling like it sounded boring.
"I got it," Alex called out.
"Well then," The wolf replied, "Go on, young blood."
Alex lifted the pillow, then stabilized it onto the rest-board, pushing his back against it while keeping the small and tough-sounding pup on his lap.
"I’ll name you..."
The tension around them began to rise. This was truly the moment things would start to change, the beginning of something epic, or so he had hoped.
"Adoff. That’s it, no last name, just Adoff."
Adoff’s expression was weird, "I’m a female, though."
Alex paused in thought, ’Oh shit, I didn’t even take that into account.’
"I’m just jawshing with ya," Adoff announced, "I like it though, it has a nice ring to it."
"Oh, good," Alex exhaled in relief, "Well, I don’t know why, it simply came to mind."
Fun fact, ’Adoff’ actually means ’An Honorable Wolf’ in German, or so it is made out to be.
"There we go," Alex whispered, "Here comes the true events."

[Evolutionary Pathways Unlocked!]
└ Pathway #1
└ Pathway #2
└Pathway #3
[Look Through Them And Decide 1]
[Leave For Later?]
└ Yes or No?
----------------------
Alex looked at his newly tamed creature for just a second, "Guess there’s no limit to how long I can have you active for, is there, Adoff?"
"Luckily for you, there isn’t," And just like Victor, Adoff’s voice rang through his head, very naturally.
"Don’t forget about me, brother!"
"Of course," Alex rolled his eyes around, "I could never forget about you."
"Wait, you guys are brothers?!" Adoff asked, intrigued.
"Yes!" Victor replied proudly.
"No, it’s just a little act for ’fun,’ you could say."
Alex shifted around, trying to find a comfortable position while scrolling through the system’s interface.
"If you guys are brothers, then that should make me the father, or something of the sort."
Alex and Victor simultaneously paused, then giggled a second later.
"Hey! What’s so funny?!"
"Nothing, nothing, but, unfortunately for you, we’re both eighteen."
A calm and weird grin ran across Adoff’s mouth, "Well, that isn’t too bad, a father can have kids at ten, right?"
"Huh?" Alex questioningly whispered, "Just how old are you?"
"Me?" Adoff weirdly chuckled, "I’m twenty-eight, born proudly on March, the sixth day."
’No fucking way,’ both Victor and Alex thought, ’That dimwit is actually older than us.’
Victor joined in on the conversation, "Just how old is your mother?"
"Before that bastard killed her, she was about 44."
Alex started counting down, subtracting 44 by 28, ’That would mean she had him at 16.’
But it didn’t stop there, ’Getting cracked at 16 is lowkey insane, she had to have been bad as hell to the wolves.’
