Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Shaggathan

Just outside of Moonville, three military helicopters were circling above a waterfall, on the ground there was a group of people.

In front of these people were two men, these men looked ordinary but everybody around them was looking at them with reverence in their eyes.

One of those men had dark skin, short white hair and a long white beard. He was covered in a long coat and using a cane to stand.

Next to him stood a man who looked to be in his 50’s. He was dressed in a black suit, wearing a monocle and carrying a golden pocket watch with a thin golden chain and had a bucket hat.

He looked like an aristocrat from the 19 hundreds. Both men stood side by side with their gazes fixed on the waterfall or more specifically the cave behind it.

Inside the cave were two graceful women, one was dressed modernly in pants and a t-shirt.

The other one was dressed like a standard witch with her pointy hats, in her hand was a wand.

The woman next to her was carrying a sword on her back. The two of them faced the creature looking at them.

It has grey skin and two thick and muscular front legs. Its back legs were shorter making it stand like a gorilla.

Its face has six eyes, three on each side and a mouth so wide it stretched across its entire face but it did not have a nose.

Its six eyes blinked then it moved, the woman with a sword pulled out her sword and it ignited into flames.

Boom, the sound barrier broke as the creature lunged at her, she met it head on with her flaming sword.

A shockwave spread out followed by a wave of flames that covered the entire cave. The other witch waved her wand and the world twisted around her.

She was sucked into a space like a spiral and disappeared almost instantly. The other witch with a sword shot back like a cannon and flew out the cave.

She spun mid air and landed on her feet. The people outside were surprised by their sudden appearance.

" It’s a good thing we received that warning or the consequences would’ve been dire." Said the witch with a hat.

The two old man appeared next to them, " What happened in there." The one with a monocle asked.

His name was Albert Sapienta, an elder of the Sapienta clan and a level 3 Espara.

" One of the Shaggathan has awakened, it has reached level 3." Anansi, the witch with a hat answered.

Her sister, Bryana stood quite with her sword in hand, Bryana was an anomaly amongst witches.

Even though it was well known that witches were physically weaker, she still insisted on being a sword woman.

Fortunately as an elemental witch of the fire elemental she had a lot of destructive power but her physical strength never changed, she was a witch, it could not be helped.

So she spent nearly a hundred years studying a branch of the arcane magic, a type of witch magic that doesn’t fall under the umbrella of any of the covenants.

Enhancement magic, not only was it hard to learn but most witches disdained it since they never had to rely on body strength.

Now nearly a hundred years later, she had mastered it. Anansi stood next to her sister, they weren’t related by blood but witches called each other sisters.

To be more accurate they had the same ancestor, each of the nine covenants are descendants of the nine daughters of the first witch.

While Bryana was from the elemental covenant, Anansi was from the abjuration covenant.

Th abjuration covenant was not as special as the other covenants, most of its spells could be found within arcane magic meaning any witch can easily learn them.

However when used by those of the abjuration covenant they were much stronger plus they can use spells that need preparation without any.

It’s also why she was able to use the teleportation spell so easily, that spell was not as easy to use for other witches.

While talking something shot out behind the waterfall, the ground shook when it landed and everybody grew tense.

The four people at level 3 faced the Shaggathan. " Retreat." The old man with a cane shouted. He was Avola Inkstone of the Inkstone clan.

He threw the walking cane to th side and stood up straight. " Shaggathan awakening is never a good sign.

They symbolise a coming storm and chaos, I’m afraid death with come." He giggled which made the others frown.

He was the oldest here, having lived for over four hundred years, he was quite knowledgeable but not as much as the Sapienta.

Albert shook his head, " You’re not exactly right my old friend, chaos isn’t coming, it’s already here."

He had read a lot about these creatures, the Shaggathan, a type of Gadra known as the old ones.

Races born at the dawn of creation, the first races to walk the the earth, most of them are extinct and those who remain are few in numbers.

The Shaggathan was amongst the few that remained and the only reason these ones survived was because of their ability to breath and hibernate.

The Shaggathan can sleep for thousands of years but when they wake up, death and chaos will follow.

They can always sense it and since they feed in chaos, they’re bound to wake up during chaotic times.

But these people also had to admit, the Shaggathan were very strong and they were a pack type of Gadra.

The fact that only one has awakened was a blessing, even so they couldn’t be careless, even without their pack, these things were incredibly powerful.

The four of them took their fighting stances with Albert and Anansi in the back and Avola and Bryana in the front.

The fight began without warning, the Shaggathan lunged leaving sonic booms in its path.

A whisper like that of a ghost gently spread across the land, Anansi had casted a spell in witch tongue.

The Shaggathan suddenly paused unable to move, but Anansi suddenly coughed up blood and she bled through her eyes.

Seeing this the others grew fearful but with another choice they took the chance she gave them to attack.

Bryana’s sword lit up in flames and Avola reached for his left chest and pulled out a black spear and held it with his right hand.

With his left hand he pulled out a shield on his right side of the chest. Both attacked the Shaggathan at the same time.

Meanwhile, Albert’s eyes turned gold and he was searching for its weakness.
