Demon Prince's Forsaken Bride-Chapter 47: A Mysterious Person (2)
The woman was still disguised as the young girl. Wasn’t that Moira? Lareina checked her reflection in the mirror and finding her disguise intact, she left the room.
However, by the time Lareina reached the spot where she spotted Moira from the window, the woman was nowhere to be seen.
For a moment, Lareina doubted whether she had made it up in her mind or mistaken someone else for Moira. But, she dismissed the thought soon. Astra’s disguise had meant to help them blend into the crowd but her skills had unique traits. Moira’s forced teenage frail body, her hairstyle, could not easily clash with someone else’s.
’’You have been useless.’’
The masculine voice made Lareina alert immediately and she followed the source of the sound. Soon, she spotted two shadows behind a tall tree. The moon was almost hidden behind the clouds so only their silhouettes were barely visible to her.
Moira was mum and the man continued, ’’If you are not useful, who can you blame for all the miseries in your life?"
Lareina felt a piercing pain in her ankle. When she looked down, a thin and small snake clung to her skin. Its fangs dug deep into her body and she covered her mouth to prevent herself from making noises. But the movement caused her to hit the bush she was hiding behind.
With a rustling sound, few leaves fell on the ground. And the two people were immediately alert.
’’Who is there?" Moira, who had been silent, finally spoke.
Lareina bit her bottom lips and pressed her right feet on the tail of the snake. The harsh movement caused its teeth to be dragged down. The pain made her feel faint in the head but she endured it and gave the hissing snake a gentle kick from behind the bush. It hissed some more and crawled away.
’’Just a reptile,’’ The man from earlier scoffed.
A ’swoosh’ sounded and suddenly, the snake’s hiss turned sharper before going silent. The clouds parted a bit and the moonlight reflected a glare. A familiar vine-like ring sat on one of the fingers of the man.
Lareina pressed both her palms on her mouth, not moving an inch from her spot.
Only when the two people resumed their conversation as if nothing happened did she gradually retreat. Her mind was buzzing, perhaps because of the fear or the snake was poisonous. As she rushed back in the inn, she tried to keep her steps stable.
’’Where did you go?" Azrael asked the moment she stepped inside their room.
’’Come with me,’’ Lareina reached out to hold his hand.
’’What happened to you? Your face is so pale...’’
Lareina did not know if it was an illusion but the eyes that had been watching her so impassively suddenly looked concerned. He cupped her face.
’’No time...’’ Her throat was feeling weirdly parched, ’’You must come with me. You...’’
Before she could speak any further, her body swayed, her left leg gradually growing numb.
When Lareina moved to clutch her left thigh, Azrael’s eyes followed her movements.
One moment, she was still struggling to stand and the next moment, she was floating in the air as he carried her to the bed. He put her on the bed while his other hand moved to lift her dress.
’’What...’’
’’Shhh... Stay still!’’ He sounded dead worried as he gently scolded her.
Lareina laughed bitterly in her heart. So, it was true after all. That tiny harmless looking snake was not just poisonous but it caused illusions as well. It seems like she underestimated the snakes in demon realms. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
When Azrael lifted her dress, he was greeted by the sight of her skin that had turned pale as a sheet. Two distinct greenish marks greeted his vision. He caressed the wound with his fingertip lightly before bringing it to his nose, ’’You were bitten by a grass snake. You...’’ he sounded speechless and helpless again.
Before she could even contemplate on it any further, she watched Azrael lower his body. His cold fingers wrapped around her ankle and he lifted one leg of hers gently.
Her body trembled and she instinctively tried to pull her leg back but the man who had been warned by his father to leave her to her own devices if she brought trouble upon herself turned to glare at her, ’’These snakes are not dangerous but they can cause lifelong damage, especially to humans, if their poison is not treated in time....’’
Her eyes widened. Not poisonous. So, they only caused illusions? She was doubtful.
Azrael saw the look on her face and thought she must have been scared witless by this entire situation. His heart constricted. She should have stayed in the comfort of the palace rather than suffering in a place like this.
"Stay still. I will be gentle,’’ It took him only a moment to compose himself before he lowered his head to her foot.
At the touch of his cold lips on her ankle, Lareina was so in disbelief that she forgot to retract her leg but soon, pain spread through her skin when his teeth brushed against her wound. He sucked on the wound and with every drag, extracted the poison before spitting it on the floor.
After a few moments, Lareina’s mind cleared a bit. Azrael grabbed a clean cloth and wiped the cold sweat that had drenched her forehead and neck. As she felt the tingling sensation and numbness from her leg subsiding, she inhaled a deep breath and grabbed the cloth that was wandering around her neck now.
He stopped his movements when she moved to sit.
’’You must come with me,’’ It has not been long since she came back. No matter what, that person could not have left the vicinity.
When she moved to stand, she staggered. He held her hand to support her body, ’’You need to rest...’’
’’I saw Moira with a man,’’ Lareina cut to the chase. Her voice was a little soft but her gaze remained intense.
