Chapter 42: Ghost Town (2)

But one thing that anyone could undoubtedly ascertain was that the head of the family was none other than the fearsome looking ’husband’.

So, the local guide approached the man without any hesitation, ’’Good sir, where are you from? Where are you headed off to?"

The ’good sir’ in question however did not seem to be as amicable towards strangers as he frowned and refused to utter a word. Even the man’s father who was sporting a rotund belly, a face full of beard and hair that reached his shoulder, barely being contained by the hair tying thread seemed awfully quiet and detached.

The local guide’s polite smile fluctuated a little.

’’We are looking for a tavern to have a meal first then we would need you to take us to an inn. Would that be possible, Mister?"

The local guide was stunned. The person who had approached to speak was instead the mother with an old and gentle looking appearance.

’’You see, we are a huge family, travelling for business purposes but we have been on the road for days now so we have decided to take some rest before proceeding with our journey,’’ the old lady continued with a gentle voice.

’’Hahaha... I see... I see. I understand completely. How about this? There is a good tavern nearby with the best localities. You can have your meal there before I lead you to a nearby inn for rest.’’

’’You have our gratitude, son...’’ The old lady’s voice became even more amiable.

However, as the local guide turned around and continued walking ahead to lead the way, he missed the way the lady’s smile dropped immediately.

With a sigh of exasperation, she turned to her ’son’, ’’Your Highness, you cannot be so stiff with the locals. Smile. Smile some more.’’

Yes, the man whom the local guide had deemed as the head of the family was none other than Azrael, who looked nothing like himself after putting on his disguise. From afar, he looked like an ordinary demon with a muscular build but up so close, one would still find the man beautiful in an aesthetic way, curly hair, dark eyes, scarred skin yet he did not seem unpleasant to look at, at all.

’’My Lady, please bear with it some more. Once we get to the inn, I will fetch fresh water for you to take a bath,’’ Astra, who was disguised as Azrael’s mother, turned to Lareina who was playing the wife.

From a distance, it looked like an ordinary scene of a mother-in-law addressing her daughter in law but nobody could guess the nature of the conversation.

Lareina’s appearance was slightly tweaked and altered, and her best features were covered yet she looked no less than a beauty. For one, her striking red hair had lost all its shine due to a thick paste of oil, mud and salt applied all over it. Half of her face was covered with tiny moles and on her nose, an area was covered with freckles made by dried mud and her skin tone was a sickly shade of pale.

Lareina’s one hand was being held by Rosie, the one who was supposed to be her little sister while her other hand rose to wave at Astra, ’’I am alright.... good.’’

Even as she spoke, she seemed a few moments away from retching her guts out.

Astra closed her eyes. Her disguising skills were exceptional, she could tell it from the way she had managed to alter such stunning features of both the prince and his wife. While they still looked far from ordinary, they looked rather mortal now with their divine beauty altered, which was already a great feat.

But their actions were far from being ordinary. Both the people, each in their own actions, did not seem far from questionable.

Not to mention...

’’My Lady, did you forget you are not a princess right now? How can you care so much about dirt and filth now that we are in such circumstances!" The one who spoke was the thin girl who was standing by Azrael’s side.

"Lady Moira, she is your sister-in-law now, considering you are playing the role of His Highness’s younger sister. Behave yourself some more,’’ Astra said with a straight face.

Moira’s face darkened by a few shades. It was far from glorious being reminded of how she was forced into becoming Azrael’s sister in this scenario.

Moira leaned into Azrael, ’’Your Highness,’’ she shook her upper body but then stiffened in the next moment.

Her voluptuous breasts had been wrapped around layers of thick bandages to morph her appearance into that of a girl in her late teens.

’’Lady Moira, don’t go out of character,’’ Astra heaved a sigh, her chest burning with anxiety. She had done her best at disguising these people’s best features but their activities, she could not transform...

Whether the quiet man, Rune, playing obviously the role of Azrael’s father, pitied his wife-in-act or not, he raised his hand to pat the woman’s shoulder twice.

’’This way, my prestigious guests...’’ The local guide who had walked up ahead turned to them and pointed his hand in the direction of the tavern, wondering why they were walking so slowly.

The tavern was located in a relatively crowded area and with the hustles and bustles of the place, the group did not really attract a lot of attention.

However, the moment they were about to step inside the tavern, Lareina clutched her stomach, her stomach roiling at the scent of thick demonic air that was combined with many other unpleasant odors.

She had just stumbled when an arm settled on her lower back. Azrael looked at her and reached his hand to touch her forehead. Unlike the last time in the cave, she was not burning but her lips had turned pale and she was trembling in his arms. ’’How do you feel?" 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

’’I...’’ Lareina had just spoken when she felt the urge to retch again, the niggling feeling made her close her eyes.

’’Is there something wrong with the lady?" The guide approached them when he saw them standing at the entrance.

If they had not attracted attention before, they did now. Quite a lot of people were already looking their way.

’’This is bad,’’ Astra whispered.
