Demon Prince's Forsaken Bride-Chapter 25: Provocation
"My Lady, it’s you!" Moira gasped in surprise as if Lareina was the last person she expected to see in front of Lareina’s room, ’’It has been quite some time since I last saw you and you look beautiful as ever.’’
Lareina did not know what to say to this woman.
She had never really hated Moira. Since the first day she saw her by Azrael’s side, she had not hated or blamed her. All the bad feelings she had were solely directed towards the husband who had let her down.
If Moira did not cross paths with her time and time again, then Lareina would not even feel as unsettled as she did with the woman’s persistence in irking her to the very end.
Lareina moved to walk past Moira but she had barely taken a step when the demoness captured her wrist, her grip unshakeable, ’’My Lady, it breaks my heart when you ignore me like this. I feel terribly sad when you refuse to acknowledge me.’’
’’Be mindful of your words, Lady Moira. People would misunderstand the nature of our relationship,’’ Lareina furrowed her brows as she whispered, pointing her chin at the guards who were present at little distances.
Moira’s playful expression dissipated a little and a touch of disgust crossed her face as she immediately freed Lareina’s hand.
Lareina glanced at her wrist, a small frown touched her face and she extended it towards Rosie who was standing at the back, stifling her laughter.
Under Moira’s darkening gaze, Rosie stepped forward, took Lareina’s hand and wiped her wrist with a silk handkerchief.
Moira’s pale face seemed to alter between blue and red for a moment before she scoffed, ’’The last time I was here, His Highness entered your room. Is that perhaps the cause of your arrogance? Or...’’
’’I said it that day. I do not want him. If you do, you can keep him. Even he heard it, what part of it do you not understand?’’ Not only did he overhear it but he directed his crankiness towards her later.
Her emotions had been all over the place that day and she had not minded her words or surroundings but now she did not have to think twice to know that Moira must have known Azrael was heading their way when she deliberately provoked her.
’’Are you playing hard to get now, My Lady? You think if you pretend like you do not want him, then you would get his attention...’’
’’A man’s attention is the last thing that I need to survive,’’ Lareina interrupted the woman, raising a palm, ’’I do not know the nature of your relationship but if you think that is my weakness, then you are living in delusions. I have lived without my husband for 4 years when he went to war, not knowing if he would even make it back alive. And now that he is back, if he refuses to have anything to do with me, I believe I can still live.’’
Moira was stunned into silence for a few seconds. If the demons did not have heightened senses then one might miss out on what Lareina was saying because she was rather soft spoken. Her voice was low, her face looked naive and gullible but there was something about her tall stature and bold eyes that seemed unafraid of anything and everything at times.
Moira chuckled after a moment, ’’My Lady, I don’t about the rest of the things but you pretend rather well,’’ she leaned in to whisper by Lareina’s ear, ’’Does it not bother you in the slightest that you can taste me on his lips when he kisses you? Or my touch still lingers on his skin when he holds your hand? Are you that unbothered by it?"
Lareina inhaled a sharp breath, those words hitting her like a punch. She despised how all the determination she had accumulated in the past few days threatened to crumble when her mind showed her unwanted visuals of Moira and Azrael.
Him kissing Moira the way he had kissed her, on that horse and then in the cave.
HIm touching her.
"My Lady, I was merely greeting you. Please do not be angry,’’ Moira flinched, head lowered as she took a step back.
Her words snapped Lareina out of her thoughts.
Rosie was confused.
But it took Lareina a moment to realize what was happening.
She turned around and as expected, Azrael was standing at a little distance. His impassive face did not give away any of his thoughts and she could not tell what he was thinking.
"Your Highness,’’ Moira seemed to have noticed Azrael just then and she bit her bottom lips, appearing like she was wronged, ’’I... It was not my intention to offend Lady Lareina. I was merely passing by but it seems like I have offended her. Please let her know of my intentions... ’’ she weeped.
"You...’’ Rosie fumed but met with Lareina’s gaze, she sealed her mouth knowing that it was not her place to speak unless she was spoken to.
When Azrael looked at Lareina, she instinctively opened her mouth to explain but stopped herself at the last moment, seeing the frustration reflecting in his eyes.
Moira lowered her gaze, hiding her glee as she waited for the man to snap at Lareina.
’’Didn’t I tell you to wait for me in your room? What are you doing here?"
Azrael’s words startled not just Moira, but also Lareina who had expected him to lose his temper again.
Without giving Lareina the chance to speak, the man approached her and held her hand.
"Your Highness...?" Moira’s voice trembled towards the end as she looked at him, ’’Are you going outside?"
The man halted, ’’Is there something?"
’’Your Highness, it has been a long time since I went out. Shall I accompany you and Lady Lareina?" Moira seemed uplifted immediately as if she was not the person who had shed some tears just now.
Lareina tried to pull her hand out of Azrael’s grip, grabbing the chance to escape when she saw one, ’’If Lady Moira wants to accompany His Highness, I should not be a bother. I woke up rather early today so maybe I should retreat to my room and get some rest.’’
Azrael turned around, his grip still firm around Lareina’s wrist while he looked at Moira.
