Chapter 26: Chapter 26: The Cabin in the Woods

“Run, run fast!”

Roger shouted without looking back at the wild wolf.

“If we leave, what will you do?”

That was Amanda’s voice, trembling with hurried breathing. It was clear that she was terrified.

But even so, she hadn’t forgotten about Roger.

“You go first, I’ll figure something out!”

...

Given the current situation, if Roger escaped, at least one or two of the five people who had come with him would die. And if luck wasn’t on their side and they encountered other wild animals…

Just then, a series of faint wolf howls came from the distance, and Roger’s complexion completely changed, “Never mind me, Simpson is injured, with no one to buy time, no one can get away!”

“You have to hold on, I’ll have mom send someone to rescue you!”

Amanda’s voice carried a faint sob, facing a mad beast barehanded and with only a stick, without a gun or a knife.

From any perspective, this was a suicidal act.

“Hurry up and go!”

The beast on the other side was getting restless. Without further hesitation, Roger strode forward, launching an offensive attack!

“Damn it, I’ve killed two Murlocs, am I afraid of a mere wild beast?”

When playing games, Roger felt that killing wolves and skinning them was just a seasoning in Geralt’s Demon Hunting career, but in real life, facing a wild beast, he realized how dangerous it was.

One small mistake, just a moment of negligence, and he could have his throat ripped out!

In the midst of moving forward, Roger himself didn’t notice that all of his muscles were tense, his spiritual power was highly concentrated, and his movements were marked by a strange sense of coordination.

Under the crazy boost of the Concentration Potion, his physique and the Basic Combat Technique he had practiced before finally came together harmoniously.

Although what he had practiced before was only simple close combat, weapons are extensions of the body. Even though he couldn’t wield them freely now, he could at least ensure precision and a bit of control in his attacks.

This was invaluable.

Because in a panic, many people can’t even control their own bodies.

Seeing Roger approaching steadily, the wild wolf dug its limbs into the ground and then lunged fiercely!

“Phew…”

Roger let out a breath. He dared not give the opponent a chance to get close. He squeezed out all his strength, extended the stick in his hand, and pierced the lunge of the wild wolf fiercely!

Pierce!

This time he didn’t choose to sweep because if he misjudged the distance, his attack might not land at the maximum striking radius on the beast.

If that happened, Roger, strength spent, would likely be tackled down.

Without any armor, if even for a second, he would be severely injured, and if luck was against him and he exposed his neck while falling,

Roger guessed there’d be no chance for him to get up again.

As it turned out, Roger’s decision was incredibly correct. The wild wolf’s lunge was ferocious, but being in the air, it couldn’t make any evasive moves.

Roger exerted all his force, and the stick in his hand collided with the wild beast!

Pff!

A faint groan was heard. Feeling the sensation at the tip of the stick, Roger knew he had hit the beast’s soft belly. The endpoint of the stick was somewhat sharp; it likely had pierced into the wild animal’s body.

Their figures separated instantly.

In the dim light, Roger looked down to see the tip of his stick stained crimson.

“It’s injured!”

Roger felt a surge of joy in his heart.

But just as he was about to press the attack, a flicker in the corner of his eye caught several dark shadows bursting out from the bushes on the right.

“I %&@!”

Roger couldn’t help but swear loudly.

“Are all the beasts in the mountains gathering together?”

Although the beast in front of him was injured, he definitely couldn’t finish it off anytime soon, and with several other creatures rapidly approaching from the side, once surrounded…

At the thought of that scenario, Roger’s scalp exploded with fear. Without another thought, he picked up a stick and chose a direction where no beasts were, and ran for his life.

The wild wolf he had just fought, with an injured right leg and a hole poked in its belly by Roger—not fatal, but significantly hampering its mobility—howled to the sky and chased after Roger. Hearing its howl, the other animals in the distance perked up their ears and hastily followed!

All around was dim, and from any direction, it was the same trees. With the distant wolf howls, he could hardly bother to discern the direction and chose one at random, charging through.

“Damn it, I’ll never play the good guy again, let whoever care about it!”

Despite his reluctant complaint, Roger knew he wouldn’t have been able to stand by and watch others get killed by wild wolves.

Being in the middle of the woods, Roger knew he absolutely couldn’t outrun the beasts. So, after running a distance, he spotted a tree and quickly climbed up.

Before long, several wild animals arrived at the foot of the tree. They circled the tree emitting low growls and furiously scratched at it with their front paws. One of them even clambered up the trunk a distance, only to fall back down shortly afterward.

Seeing this, Roger’s heart steadied.

Holding the stick, he knocked and tapped on the tree trunk. After a while, seeing that they couldn’t do anything to Roger, the wild animals dispersed in all directions. As for the one Roger had injured, he never saw it again.

By now, it had become completely dark, and Roger was all alone hanging on the tree, waiting in the evening breeze for a long time.

“Amanda and the rest should have escaped by now. Judging by the time, the rescuers should be almost here.”

After waiting a while longer with no sign of activity, Roger looked left and right, then quietly slid down the tree. He decided not to wait any longer.

Having walked a distance in the darkness, Roger sighed helplessly, knowing he was lost.

“I clearly remember it was this direction…”

In such a situation, the best course of action was to stay put, wait for daybreak, and perhaps use the sun to determine the direction, then find a way out.

But just then, a cold wind blew, and Roger felt a faint warmth on his chest.

“Is it an illusion?”

He paused slightly. Circling around the spot where he had just stood, he tested it several times and finally determined a direction.

After several tests, Roger had also glimpsed some of the mystique of the amulet—it always seemed to hint at something when faced with the mysterious.

He walked very slowly in the darkness, carefully observing his surroundings, on guard for any possible wild animals.

After a while, the trees began to thin out and he crossed a hill. Behind the dense forest, a dimly visible cabin appeared before his eyes.

“A cabin in the woods?”

Feeling the information relayed by the amulet, Roger’s heart filled with delight. He quickened his pace towards the cabin, which might either hold some mysterious items or be a special scene for relocation.

Walking down the slope, the temperature suddenly dropped. Borrowing the moonlight above, he surveyed his surroundings, and the ease on his face stiffened slightly.

In the clearing in front of the cabin, there was a large, scattered collection of tombstones!
