Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 26: A Little Zipper Problem
Chapter 26: A Little Zipper Problem
Brooke panted heavily, drenched in sweat. It was the first day of her therapy and she had just finished the day’s work.
Thane had been with her for the most part, so she wasn’t scared, but for some parts that required her to be half naked, he promptly excused himself and had Hannah take over.
"Miss Brooke hold on, I’ll go get you something to drink!" Hannah said then dashed for the door. On her way out, she nearly collided with Thane, who had in his hand a water bottle and a plate of sandwiches.
"Master Grayson!" She greeted, "I was just about to get something for Miss Brooke- I mean for ma’am!" She immediately corrected herself, not wanting to sound crass.
But Thane welcomed it, "It’s fine to address her informally, I wouldn’t want her feeling out of place here."
"Yes sir." She replied.
"And Hannah, you can finish up that assignment I gave you. I’ll take care of Brooke." He said, referring to Cassie’s phone she was hacking into. In-between acting as Brooke’s caretaker and her actual hired job, Hannah hadn’t found a single hour to rest.
Not to mention the freelance jobs she took prior to getting employed by Thane.
"Thank you sir!" She exhaled sharply then retreated to her room before Thane would have a change of heart.
Though she doubted her employer would miss a chance to dote on Brooke.
When Brooke heard someone come in, she immediately assumed it was Hannah, so she carried on with undressing herself. "Could you help me with the zipper, I think it’s stuck." She said, stretching her hands behind her.
Thane quietly dropped the things he held on the table and sauntered over to her. Without saying a word he helped her trace the zipper down, whilst carefully avoiding her skin.
His ears reddened when he saw her black laced bra, resting on her back, thankfully she had bandages on, so he couldn’t see most of her skin.
"Thank you. Could you unhook the bra too?" She asked, slipping her hands out of the dress.
But Thane dry coughed, "That would be a bit improper of me, don’t you think?"
Brooke’s eyes widened, she pulled the shirt up to her chest and wheeled her back away from him. "Mr Grayson! I didn’t hear you come in!" Looking behind her and seeing no trace of Hannah, she rephrased. "I mean, I wasn’t aware it was you who came in!" She immediately wanted the ground to swallow her whole.
Thane grunted, looking at everywhere but Brooke’s exposed shoulders. An air of awkwardness wafted around them, until Brooke broke the silence.
"Um, did you need something?" She delicately asked, she had heard him say he had an appointment, and wondered why he hadn’t left yet.
"I wanted to check up on you, and make a follow up on your experience using the equipment. If you encountered any difficulties at all relay them to me and I’ll personally work on developing it." He said in length, stunning Brooke that he could sound so tensed.
All of a sudden he asked her, "Are you cold?"
She nodded swiftly, "Yes! Very!" Hoping to get him to leave, preferably before Hannah got back and got the wrong impression.
But Thane instead walked into her closet and pulled out a loose fitted shirt from inside. He handed it over to Brooke, pointing his gaze to the floor, "Here, wear this instead."
"T-Thank you." She stuttered, taking the shirt off his hands. Thane circled back to the water bottle and sandwiches, and pretended to be making some finishing touches.
In a fraction of a second, Brooke took off her shirt and bra, then slipped into the new shirt.
Once Thane perceived she was done, he came over to her and handed her the water bottle and sandwiches.
"Mr Grayson you really don’t need to do this for me everything." Brooke said, feeling guilty. He had so many helps, yet he personally made her meals.
Thane smiled, "I remember you saying you preferred my cooking to my gifts." He took the old clothes off her hands and set them aside.
He sat on the bed next to her, and watched her eat.
’Is he really not going out?’ Brooke wondered, stealing glances at him while she ate.
Noticing this, Thane asked, "Does my presence make you uncomfortable?" His expression was hard to read, but his tone sounded a bit...hurt?
Brooke shook her head, "No, I was just wondering if I’m getting in the way of your important appointment. I overheard you talking to your assistant, and it seemed like an important meeting."
Thane sighed in relief. "Oh? That. I’m just meeting up with the lawyer that you hired for your divorce."
"What?" Brooke was astonished. "Why though?" As soon as she asked that, she remembered her telling Thane something about her medical reports, and then it hit her.
Brooke immediately tried convincing him, "No, you don’t need to go that far. I should be the one handling getting those medical reports off her. You’ve done enough-"
"Brooke." Thane cut her off. "You already have a lot on your plate with the therapy, and your wounds didn’t magically disappear overnight. I know you’re playing off how much pain you’re really in." He announced, the image of Brooke’s back flashed before his eyes.
He went on, "Once you’re better, you’ll have lots of battles to fight, this is the time you have to get prepared, both physically and mentally to face them again."
Brooke was stunned by his words, she never expected him to see her in that light. She always thought she was weak and useless, but here was someone who saw her completely different from how she perceived herself.
It almost made her cry.
But this was not the time for tears. "Thank you for your help, Mr Grayson, I understand my role now." She straightened her shoulders, "I’ll do the therapy seriously so I don’t hold our plans back." She said, realizing how much work needed to be done.
Just as she made that announcement, Gilbert walked inside holding a white book to his chest, with the word SCRIPT written in bold font over it.
"Mr Grayson, Miss Brooke, I have something that I think may interest you both." He announced, stealing both their attention.
