Chapter 220: The Real Her

Cassie? Why did this man want to know about her sister? More importantly, she fairly knew everyone in Cassie’s circle, it would’ve been impossible to miss someone who seemed to be this well off.

"I’m sorry, but what makes you think I have anything of use to you? After all, I’m nothing but a mere former employee." She started out trying to ascertain just how much about her he knew.

Kayden kept a straight face, "You faced off against her, I believe that girl is petty, but I don’t think she’d take the trouble to fight an ex employee in public like that. She must hate your guts in particular, probably because there must be something you know. Or rather something you’ve done to anger her."

Brooke response was candid, "Fight? It’s just as you saw on the livestream, I was the one who hurt her, so what would make you think that way?" She thought to herself, that depending on this man’s response, she might get a clue on why he was dead set on destroying her sister.

However, his answer never came. Instead, he got up and made for the door. "I see that you are unwilling to share anything with me. That just leads me to believe that the evidence you have against her is incriminating, and you yourself might be placed at risk by it. If that is the case, then I’ll just have to find another route to get back at her." He said, his hand resting on the door handle.

"Wait!" Brooke called out to him, just before he stepped out of the room. "I know I’m wrong for asking this, but did you maybe invest in this film because of..." she left her sentence hanging, the sheer absurdity of what she was insinuating made her retain her words.

But Kayden caught her insinuation, he turned around fully, looked her closely then gave a slight nod. "It’s just as you imagined, I’m investing in this movie to get back at Cassie." He announced with no reservations. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"But why?" She asked, "What do you have against Cassie?"

"Why?" Kayden could not hide his surprise, "You’re supposed to be her enemy, why does it sound like you’re taking her side?" he frowned, "Just who really are you? What is the real you like?"

Brooke bit her cheeks, he wasn’t giving in or letting out any of his motives, save for the fact that he wanted her career to fail. But could she trust that? What if this was all a trap? Was she being too careless?

Kayden noticed the hesitation in her eyes and he found it odd. He expected Brooke to be a vengeful ex employee of Cassie’s agency, stuck working on a low budget movie. Naturally, she should’ve jumped at the idea to get back at Cassie with no questions asked, but here she was making him doubt their true relationship.

Reaching into his pocket he pulled out his phone, "Here, why don’t we exchange info, I’d like for us to keep in contact with each other." He suggested, nudging his phone in her direction.

Brooke stared at his phone, then raised her gaze to the stoic look on his face. ’Is this man being serious here?’ she wondered as she took his phone and typed her number into it.

"I’ll be busy with filming, so for the next month or so, I won’t have the time to meet with anyone." She told him.

"That is fine, we have all the time in the world on our hands, and I hope that our relationship will only getting closer within those days." He told her then stepped out of the hotel room.

After he left, Brooke only just realized that she hadn’t asked this man for his name or anything to get an idea of his identity. She hurriedly left to the filming location, to ask the director who their new sponsor was.

"Kayden Hayes." Said the director, "I don’t know much about the kid, but it seems he comes from some nasty wealth, so it all works well for production. We’ll be able to place more budget into production. This is nothin but-" while he continued to speak, Brooke’s mind was already running a mental marathon.

She reached for her phone to call Hannah to look into his background, however, her phone rang first, and it was her husband calling. She excused herself from the conversation and went over to a corner to speak with him.

"Thane, I’m sorry for being late, but I think I’ll be-" she was saying, only to get cut off miserably.

"Brooke, this is Gilbert calling." Gilbert told her.

"Oh, is Mr Grayson not around? I have something to discuss with him..." Brooke could not hear the sound of her own words, as the ones uttered by Gilbert left her paralysed in shock.

"Mr Grayson has collapsed, as we speak all of the medical attendants are at the mansion, as it stands the situation isn’t favorable. You may need to get here, I’ve called his lawyer as well, he should almost be here." Gilbert said over the frantic voices of the helps in the background.

Brooke gasped and covered her mouth, her eyes watered and her lips quivered. Mr Grayson had another attack? How was that possible? He had been taking his medicines! He wasn’t overworking himself! The threat was back at his house, so how could this happen...

"Mrs Grayson, if I may say something, I think I have a suspicion on who might be behind Master Grayson’s sudden attack." Gilbert said into the phone, stealing Brooke’s attention.

"What?" She asked, "What do you mean?!"

Gilbert responded, "I suspect someone must’ve laced his drugs with something lethal. And I already have an idea of who it was."

"Who was it? Tell me!" Brooke demanded, her angry tone drew attention to herself, some of the extras passing by stopped and peered at her briefly.

Once they saw the pure rage in her eyes, they swiftly walked away.

Over the phone, Gilbert cleared his throat before he boldly said the name of the person he was certain was responsible for Thane’s condition.

"It was...Matthew." Gilbert announced in a firm tone.
